The carrot suggestion for worms was mentioned by a Doctor to my mum in the 1960's. It was thought that threadworms loved the carrot so much that they gorged themselves and burst. Only threadworms were mentioned.

I don't think it is terribly good advice to give to a dog owner who has a dog with a large roundworm burden.
