  1. Thanks for the reply :)

Was just thinking of local rescue as neither myself or my friend have transport. She is only rehoming the yorki x, she's going to keep the staffie, both were strays that didn't get claimed, she has had the staff for 10yrs and the yorkie for 5yrs. The fights are happening on a daily basis now, so the yorkie staying with me until my friend finds a rescue for him. I cant keep him as I have 4 dogs of my own. Will try the oldies

    Thanks Di

  2. My friend has a 7yr Yorkie x she needs to rehome, She also has an 11 yr staffie x, they have had the odd fight over the 5yrs they have lived together but it has slowly escalated and now reached the point where they cannot live together. Does anybody know of a good rescue in the St Helens, Merseyside area

    Thanks Di

  3. Thanks for replies :flowers:

It's got to be waterproof as one of my dogs is incontinent, was planning on using vetbed over the cushion with a towel under the vetbed to soak up any accidents

She doesn't wet all the time, she seeing vet this week now I've realised it's her, was blaming my 18 year old cat who likes to snuggle up with the dogs

If anybody has any good ideas for dealing with an incontinent dog they will be very much appreciated, at the moment I'm using a plastic sheet over my rug with a throw on top and throws on my sofas :flowers:

    Thanks

  5. Hi has anybody on here ordered goods from dog-online and if so what experience have they had.

On 7th March I ordered a waterproof dog bed, a few days later I received an invoice saying bed had been dispached direct from manfacturer and to expect delivery in

7-10 working days. As of yet I have not received goods nor have I been able to contact them by phone or email,

Any advice would be welcome as to who i could contact if goods dont arrive or if you have had dealings with the comany before.

    Thanks

  6. This is a bit long winded so will try to keep it brief

Lady fostering 35 cats for local rescue

Cats are either old or have health problems

18mths back rescue stopped funding upkeep for cats, another rescue stepped in to help and various people make regular donations and fund raise

All cats are receiving regular vet treatment and are well fed and cared for

Volunteer from original rescue( not the people who run it) decided to cause problems which resulted in foster lady contacting police and getting an injunction against volunteer

Volunteer is friends with somebody who works for rspca and foster lady is now constantly being reported to rspca who are saying she's got to reduce her numbers

Foster lady is wondering why rspca would want to remove some of the cats from her home, when apart from the fact there are large numbers, there are no welfare concerns, her vet has been to her home and has confirmed that all the cats are being well cared for and the rescue who are helping her with the funding regularly go to her home and cant find any problems. Any advice on this would be welcome.

    Thanks Di x

  7. Roo has suddenly started to have fits.

He's had bloods done at the vets and his urine tested and everythings clear.

On Monday he's going back to be tested for Addisons.

In between the fits Roo is his usual happy, bouncy self. His first fit was 10 days ago, he was prescribed diazepam, to be given every 8 hours while we waited for the results of his blood tests, all of which were normal. He was then put on half dose of the diazepam for a couple of days, then this was stopped and he was completely fine, playing with the other dogs etc until last night when he had another fit. Previous to the first fit I did notice he had a raging thirst (24hrs before) and yesterday before the fit, which occurred in the middle of the night, he was showing signs of thirst but for the days inbetween his water intake has been normal. Today he seems much more hungry than normal and is very thirsty.

Has anybody had any experience of Addisons, any advice is welcome, if these tests are clear the vet thinks it could be a brain tumour?

    Thanks

  8. Group_Hug_Emoticon.gif to you and Sparky

I just don't know what to do for Oscar for the best, if I was 100% sure that having all his teeth removed would resolve the problem then I wouldn't hesitate but my vet can't tell me how much of an improvement there will be and I'm worried about the risk at his age.

Thanks for the toothpaste advice I will give that a gosmile.gif

I have managed to have a good look in his mouth and the flare ups are in different places and not always where there are teeth, usually its the curve at the back of his mouth, just where each line of teeth end, although this time it was over one of his fangs aswell. The patches are not raw and they are just a deeper pink than the normal gum colour, they are about finger tip size and there is no reddness where the tooth and gum meet.

Apart from a bit of weight loss, his condition is good and he's still ruling the roost over 4 other cats and 3 dogs smile.gif and leaping up on walls when he goes out.

  10. In November last year my 16 yr old cat had dental work done, he needed 2 back teeth removed and at this time had blood tests done, all came back negative, no viruses, no organ problems.

In April this year he started showing signs of suffering with his mouth again and since then has been back to the vets every 4 weeks for an anti-inflamatory injection, towards the end of the 4 weeks he shows signs of his mouth bothering him but with in a couple of days of having the injection it eases.

Since April he refuses to eat out of his bowl and I have been hand feeding him, he's raw fed, the vet thinks this is due to him associating the bowl with pain in his mouth although he will chew on a raw chicken wing as long as I hold it.

In July I had his kidneys tested again and the results where within the normal range but the higher end of normal, after our recent visit this week, the vet has suggested I try him on fortekor 2.5mg for his kidneys although in this case she doesnt think its the kineys causing his mouth problem and I've been given Virbac Vet Aquadent to put in his water.

She has suggested that he's having a reaction to tartar (although his teeth are quite clean) and to have a think about having all his teeth removed as this will help the problem but not cure it completely.

I'm at a loss what to do, it just seems so drastic to remove all his teeth when they are still ok and for it not to completely cure the problem, not to mention the risk of poor Oscar having an op at his age. At the moment he's still active and there is no smell from his mouth.

Has anyone had any experience of this, any advice would be much appreciated.
