  1. Sam I have been looking into your problems posting - from what I can tell there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to post with your own account, its not locked or restricted and not showing up as anything wrong this end. What exactly happens when you try and log in as you?

that the password or username is incorrect and I have tried to reset it but that did not seem to work either !

  2. Grrrr... Families  Just phoned mum up and she brought up the topic of Ted for their holiday again. I explained that Blue is likely to be living in over summer due to his laminitis, so with working 6 days a week, seeing to Blue and Walter and Jessie, I really don't see how I can sort Ted out as well. Ted barks when left, so he can't move into my house (it's a mid terrace), so I would have to stay at theirs. I can't move Walter and Jessie into theirs as Ted would chase them. I explained there aren't enough hours in the day for me to live at theirs with Ted, work all day, sort Blue, Walter and Jessie out. This is without even factoring in the gym. Mum said that I should have another think about what we can do with him. I said a dog sitter is the only option. He can't go into kennels as his vaccines aren't up to date - he's allergic to quite a few things, so we decided to stop vaccinating him about 4 years ago. She then said that I should have another think about what we can do with him as dad won't go away unless Ted stays at home. So what started as a nice conversation ended up with me saying that dad is blackmailing me and spitting his dummy out. It's not fair to expect me to do everything when my brother lives across the road from me and actually has his own dog to sort out (so theoretically he could move back home with his other half and we could all muck in as and when), but they seem reluctant to ask them to help.

I guess it comes down to whose dog is Ted as to who has the make the arrangements but a an option might be trusted house sitters https://www.trustedhousesitters.com/house-and-pet-sitters/

  3. Hi Sam

I was just thinking of you this morning and wondering when we'd last heard of you. I had a couple of instances where I couldn't get on the boards and it took a while to sort it out.

I think it was mid December reading back , buggered if I know what I did but one morning I just could not log in

We had a lovely xmas with Aisling and things have been very busy here since then with work , we had the Dogs Trust CEO visit this month as they are my major sponsor for the spay neuter program , we have also been invited to give a talk at the Dogs Trust conference in Croatia later this year

Mark and I are going to Malawi for Mission Rabies from mid April to help run a mass rabies vaccination campaign and assist with some training for vets in running spay neuter programs we will be there for 6 weeks

I was just thinking how much my life has changed since the events of 2005 and losing my job in 2006 , if Snow had not put up a link to elephant volunteering in Sri Lanka ( thanks Snow) and I had not thought sod it why not bloody well go and do it then I wonder where we would be now

Over the last 10 years we have had some awful ups and downs far more than I have ever mentioned and I am very happy with where we are in 2016 and I hope it gives hope to every one that things even when they are very dark can change for the better because believe me I would not have wished my 2005 - 2006 on anyone and its taken me the best part of 10 years to get over that

    Sam

Loobie , I am so so so pleased Ashley is back home with you :flowers:

Snow sorry to hear about your health issues , I do hope you are able to have your procedures very soon :flowers:

  7. Samantha is a finalist for the Ceva Animal Welfare Awards in the International Volunteer category. She works so hard and its fantastic to see her work getting recognised, I am so proud of her and everything she does

This is the wording from the Press release Ceva have put out:

The nationwide awards, held by Ceva, manufacturers of Feliway and Adaptil, will celebrate volunteers, charity workers, veterinary professionals and young people who have all demonstrated dedication to animal welfare.

Samantha, originally from London where she worked in the engineering department for the London Underground. After the 7/7 bombings she was made the site manager of Edgware Road, assisting the police investigations, removal of the damaged train and reopening of the station. However shortly afterwards when her role was made redundant she wanted some time out so headed to volunteer in Sri Lanka.

It was here, in 2006, that Samantha became aware of the welfare problems and desperate need for sterilisation amongst street dogs in Sri Lanka and as a result she founded her charity Dogstar.

After setting up the charity, Samantha has been working tirelessly to ensure thousands of dogs and cats are sterilised every year, as well as educating the children in the need for vaccination against diseases such as rabies.

Last year Samantha organised a teaching clinic for western vets to work with Sri Lankan students in the improvement of animal care and treatments.

Samantha said: “ we’ve sterilised over 3,000 dogs so far and vaccinated more than double that against rabies. This is the only way we can reduce the stray population effectively and there’s still a lot to be done.

“I spend between three and six months of the year over in Sri Lanka and the work is incredibly varied and exciting. There’s so much work to do over there in terms of vaccinating and sterilising but also in educating people in animal welfare. We’re fundraising, training teachers, teaching young children about animals and developing a workshop demonstrating surgical protocols in a field clinic environment. It keeps me very busy”

“When I’m back in the UK I manage the fundraising, digital media and charity governance as well as looking after the team back in Sri Lanka remotely via emailing and Skype. However, in April of this year both my husband and I will be moving out there to volunteer full time which we’re very excited about.”

Ginette Bryant of Ceva Animal Health said: “The International Volunteer Award category is more competitive than ever this year; there were just so many fantastic candidates who dedicate their lives to animal welfare. We’re really excited about the awards but the judges have an extremely tough job on their hands.”

Ceva Animal Health’s judging panel consists of celebrity vets Marc Abraham and Joe Inglis, as well as veterinary surgeon Chris Laurence MBE, Ross Tiffin of the Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) and Dennis Baker OBE Chief executive at Wood Green, the Animal Charity. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on April 3 2013.

For good measure she also got an article in the Southwark News! (being a Peckham girl) :-)
