  3. Claire! Way to go girl! Loki has turned out to be some special horse, he is a really talented boy. Congratulations. Cuev and I had our new Enlightened Trainer down on Friday, and we did some in-hand work, some clicker training and lunging. Today I did it all by myself and Cueva was fantastic, trainer thinks Cuev has great potential and has lovely movement. I was a proud mummy. The next photos I will post of Cuev will be ridden ones - it is a really big thing for me!

    Riley News

Awww poor Riley - Snickitt sends snugs wid tungs. Snickitt is my SLO greyhound, not only that, but she has SLE which caused her to go into multi-system failure last March with a relapse in November and one again this month. The SLO is stable at the moment, and although Snickitt presents with deformed nails she is pain and infection free. When she has an SLO relapse she is automatically treated with high dose steroids (Prednisolone) and also antibiotics to prevent secondary infection of the nail bed and joint. The high dose steroids makes her massively incontinent of urine, and she is also completely flattened by them and requires handfeeding (there is nothing more vile than hand-feeding pilchards hey Claz?) I have no idea if SLO predisposes dogs to SLE and even the Marvellous Martin at Chine was not sure. SLE is very difficult to diagnose as it masquerades as so many different illnesses, for example Snickitt's manifest as a spinal injury and she gets pain in her stomach region when palpated. (Actually it is her spleen as she gets thrombocytapaenia too). However, the SLO is MUCH easier to deal with, if distressing to watch when the nails are shedding. There really is not much you can do except keep the area clean (a very weak hibiscrub solution at 10% dilution as a footbath works wonders but do not use for more than 5 day consecutive days). I did not use any supplements with Snickitt, just the steroids and the antibiotic therapy and she has been in remission from the SLO for about a year now, with only one nail shed in that time (And that was a result of trauma rather than SLO). If you need any more help or advice or anything at all just shout.
  5. My Icelandic reacted badly to her Equine flu jab a few years ago, she had a huge swelling at the injection site which took 2 years to disappear and she was also quite ill, pretty much as your describe your girlie. I no longer vaccinate for flu as routine. as Nott was the second horse I have had who reacted to the vaccine, I do however vaccinate for tetanus.
  6. I'm so sorry Claz Would you kiss her dear little head for me and say goodbye. May your passing be peaceful Lily Longdog and shine brightly
  7. Maybe you squeeze a little Spanish Senora in there? They not notice and I am dressage horthe (soon, soon).
  8. Dere Auntee Annnnne, Pleathe, I am horse from Spain and I like to live in yur fanthy hacienda, if yu cud pleathe arrange it for soon. Cueva x x x Ps It eez better than the finca where I am currentlee residente
  9. Oooo look at the lovely chestnut girlies! what a fabulous trio with marvellous legs. Thanks Anne they are fab!
  10. Ooooo can't wait for photos Anne!
  11. Damn - I had to buy the book! Well, it is based on the Portuguese Classical School so it would have been rude not to! I have a new trainer, she is coming out on the 18th and apparently Cueva and I will be the best partnership within 3 months. Eeek Eeeeeeeeeeek! This is Emma: Hoof and Paw have loads in common with Emma and she sounds great and has worked out a training programme that sounds exactly what I want and Cuev needs. So glad Rolo and Loki and Kane are back to being good boys. Peter Maddison-Greenwell will have Cuev for fine tuning and 'proper' dressageyclassical stuff.
  12. She is an unbelievably beautiful girl, she is going to grow up to be a big strong girlie, she is a little chunk now. Bless!
  13. Double Ouch jacky and Clare - Wooooo HOoooooooooooo! Glad your boy is coming home for some TLC and pampering!
  14. Silly Mist keeps forgetting her blimmin camera! Will try and get some piccies before work tomorrow. Cueva has grown, bless her and is looking uber Spanish. Nott is ermmmmmmm hairy....
  15. I think that sounds OK too Clare, hopefully the mega-wap of antibiotics should sort out the secondary tooth infection, poor Loki he has been in the wars. to you Clare, I am sure things will be fine with Loki, but he is turning out to be one expensive horse!
  16. Clare - bugger, bugger, bugger, sorry to hear about Loki and his dental trials, at least they have got him in quick and I shall keep everything crossed that this will be the final time he needs gob-surgery. Keep smiling Clare - he will be fine, honest. Nott and Cueva photos will be in order tomorrow I think. Oooo how gorgeous are Frant and Finn??? Jackysian - will trade you a Nott piccie for a Kane piccie...
  17. Nott is looking like an old fur rug with the moth at the minute, rugs are off and she has come out of the winter looking fat and shiny. It is also her birthday - so: Happy 19th Birthday Nottie Beautiful Cueva has grown up and matured over the winter - she is developing a really lovely Spanish look and has a beautifully arched neck. She has stopped being bonkers as the haylage is not being fed and she is back to her placid, calm self. Who wold have thought pickled grass could have such an effect. She is 6 very soon (26th April) Photos soon, promise! Clare - so sorry about Loki, I replied on the NR thread. You really could not have done anymore for him and he is looking so magnificent too.
  18. Yay Clare! Fantastic on the canter front (it is my huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge mental block too, unless I am riding a 16 hh Luso stallion called Opalino). Glad the Pikey Pone is back to normal and is proving to be such a star!
  19. Cuev is 6 this year and has matured a lot over the winter - she looked very babyish when i had her in September now she is looking more Baroque! More photos when she is looking less muddy and she has finished moulting.. Hopefully ridden photos of me on Cuev soon!
  20. Jen - what about a treeless for Rolo? If he is such a difficult horse to fit, then maybe that is the way forward - some of them are quite reasonable and I know there are a couple of peeps on EE who might let you borrow one or try one out, there is one company who will lend you one for a wekend for a deposit. Clare - Hugs to Loki, the big lummox, hope he is feeling better. Cueva update - she is going for some top training with Peter Maddison-Greenwell at El Caballo de Espana, they like her and I am going to get trained too. (Thank Goodness for the credit card!)
  21. Oh Clare - I am sorry about Loki, blimmin bloke horse. I am sure he will be fine with his surgery and he is bouncing around now. Give him a big hug from the Spanish Madam, the Walking Hair Ball and me and have one yourself. Anne - wow! that is some compliment!
  22. There just hasn't been the hay made this year - I think farmers have cottoned on that haylage is easier to make and easier to store, I know from other owners that hay has been short in Leicestershire and what there has been has been expensive. I will be stopping the haylage soon, as it would be a hassle to change her over to hay now when she has been on haylage since October. The problems got really bad when she was being fed haylage three times a day - had it been adlib I think she would have exploded!! The yard does not have any extra storage for bought in hay - will have to think of something for next winter as I don't really want to move yards.
  23. Well, I found out what Cueva's problem was - it is haylage! I had an email from her previous owner saying she felt guilty as she had not told me NOT to feed it to Spanish horses as it makes them hyper! No, you don't say! So she had not told me, Cueva is completely potty on the homegrown organic haylage so I am waiting until we stop feeding haylage and then bring her back into work. It was doing none of us any favours trying to work with an Iberian on equine speed.... So I'll keep you all posted on Cuev's progress... The farm does not make hay anymore, just haylage so I am not sure what to do for next winter
