  1. I think I know what you are on about, and it's not called vetwrap, but being very helpful here, haven't got a clue what it's actually called, lol. But yes it's really sticky and quite strong, good to just put around the top over the vetwrap. We normally use it to wrap around the horses hoof/shoe when they fly, as it'll hold.

Haha, just had a look in my medicine box as I was sure I'd nicked some just in case, it's called elastoplast, here's one website with it Elastoplast, you have to look under veterinary to get it. I think it comes in dog size versions too. Otherwise the normal brown stuff, is also ok, but not near as strong or adhesive.

  2. There is an update about Spice and foal now, same link. Was wondering where the foal had gone, didn't realise it was a different horse, lol.

We are back to Roxy now, so could still be any day!!!

  3. I'm unwanted and unloved and being cast aside in favour of some more fashionable pets am I? :mecry:

    Erm....

    Yes

    :ph34r_anim:

I did warn you that I needed to be let out for a wee more often. Have you found the big poo yet that I did in the cupboard under the stairs last night?

    I have now!! :D

and I was going to go and buy you......but, I don't have any stairs, therefore no cupboard, so I'd be scared of where you might poo......

You can still buy her, she only poos under the stairs so you are safe, she might pee on your carpets though....

  4. Taking from the minutes of our last K9Friends meeting, as the committee members have worked towards getting the ban changed.

    Item 5 Dog Ban

Hayley, who works for a law firm has been helping along with a paralegal called Salma to try and resolve some of the issues and confusion regarding the recent circular. They met with Adel and Dr Salhil, the guy who wrote the circular and stressed the need for clarification as it is very confusing as sit stands.

They agreed not to outright ban these listed dogs, but were adamant that the listed dogs were not to be kept in apartments. That there would be an exemtion process where you have to stisfy certain criteria. You can own more than one of these dogs dogs, providing you adhere to all the conditions.

They have drafted an amendment which now shows 2 lists of dogs. List A - dangerous and List B - Snow dogs (includes Husky and Shar Pei). Every dog on these lists should be vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and registered with the municipality, and leashed and wearing a muzzle when in a public area. Dogs on list B all of the above, omitting wearing a muzzle.

This order only applies in Dubai. It does not apply to other emirates. Salma is trying to get Huskies etc (snow dogs) banned completely (importing them) as although they agree these dogs are not dangerous they should not be living in the conditions that Dubai offers. Unfortunately it is the Ministry of Environment that sets the rules with dogs coming into the country and the Dubai Government cannot ban these alone.

Current owners of listed dogs WILL NOT have their dogs taken off them. If any dog is reported there will be a full inquiry before any dog is taken. The municipality will have specially trained men in charge of dogs who will carry an ID card. If you are stopped when out with your dog, make sure you ask to see their card and take a note of their staff number. Verification can be sought should you want to follow something up. Training is being given for these guys so that they can recognise the listed dogs.

If you want to own a banned dog, then you have to pledge an undertaking that you will abide by the rules and only if these rules are breached would the dog be taken from you.

K9 are getting many calls from dog owners saying their landlord is telling them they are not allowed to keep a dog in their apartment anymore. It is only the banned dogs that cannot live in an apartment and the advise K9 is giving is that they have a meeting with the landlord and explain this to them (good luck...) K9 are happy to help by sending a letter explaining this to them too.

They hope the new drafts will be ready by the end of the week, honestly I don't see that much change and still an awful lot of problems with this law. The most stupid thing is still that they wont ban the dogs from coming into the country, I mean what's the point then..... Will be interesting to see what the new one is gonna be like, will update as soon as I have it.

  5. Years ago when someone stole the sign pointing to our Devon village  , some other helpful person carefully made a beautifully accurate replica sign and put it up on the signpost (it was the sort of signpost where the pointing bits just slide in).

It was there for about a year before the council noticed it. It said "Wherethehellarewe"

    :biglaugh:

I love the one somewhere in Herts that says "Secret Government Nuclear Bunker This Way" with an arrow pointing. x

    more :biglaugh:

    Great thread

edited to add it reminds me that we have some pretty weird looking horse signs and little men shagging camels... will get some pic's.

  6. It is actually all dogs that are supposed to wear "masks" when they are on public streets or beaches. Dogs aren't allowed on any beaches in Dubai anymore.... and they obviously don't even know what a muzzle is called. One woman called k9 today saying she had only just arrived with her "banned" dog here and was told nothing about any of this.

  7. Do they really think people will believe this is a valid argument for banning certain breeds? Since when was one breed more likely to bring disease than another?

If the dogs are banned from residential areas AND public places, where on earth can they go?

I also understand that *all* dogs now have to be muzzled in public

It's complete bs to put it nicely, don't think that they have thought it through at all. And a lot of the things in the law makes it impossible to comply with it, can't see it being enforced everywhere either, but am sure a lot of people living in apartments are up for some worrying times ahead, me included, as nobody has any idea what the different breeds look like, and as I was telling Anne earlier, an awful lot of people have asked me if Diesel is a wolf.... Also some of the breeds they have put on the list makes you laugh, or cry

It's not all dogs that have to be muzzled, just the breeds on the list when they are in public areas, that they are not allowed to be in

Don't think they are planning on people to rehome their dogs, rather put them down. I bet they wont stop the petshops selling any of these breeds, or the sheikhs bringing them in to the country. Wonder how many of these breeds you are allowed to have if you are a sheikh or good friends with one................................ They are the ones doing a lot of the dogfighting as well and am sure that will carry on as usual.

There is actually no rabies out here, and vaccination and microchipping is compulsory, a lot of people don't do it though. And it's VERY rarely we are able to trace owners through microchips as there is no central database  Think they are a bit confused over wether it's about diseases or dangerous dogs.
