  1. For Benji, hope all goes well today and good news will be on here tonight. Good Luck
  2. The results are back and to be honest I don't think it's great news. His white cell count is low, potassium levels are up and his immune system is fighting.....something? The vet has asked for another blood test to be done next week for a comparrison, but they think it may be something to do with his liver. In the meantime keep an eye on him for anything unusual. My last pointer Charlie, had a tumour in his liver that went undiagnosed for several weeks, he had 3 heart attacks while the vet was treating him for a stomach bug, which they then decided wasn't a bug! Charlie had x-rays and the tumour was discovered, I can never forgive myself for the day he went for that operation when I left him. He knew he wouldn't survive and deep down I knew it too. I had to make the decision to let him go during the operation when they found the tumour was too large to remove and had only about a month to live. I don't think I can let my Danny go through that, or myself if it comes to it. I want to be with him when his time comes, to let him know I love him and care for him. Perhaps I'm being far too pessimistic, but I have to face up to the fact he's almost 12 years old and won't last forever especially if he becomes seriously ill. Ria won't know what to do without him, they have become inseperable during the 2 years we have had her, she adores him. Whenever we come back from the vets she always checks him over before coming to greet me. I'll keep you updated with things as they progress, in the meanwhile I'll give him some extra cuddles and treats.
  3. I'm worried, really worried. Danny, my pointer has been treated for arthritis for the last 6 months. Our visit to the vet last week went quite well, except for my vet saying Danny is losing weight. I had noticed it myself and have mentioned it before, but this time she suggested a blood test "just in case it's more than arthritis". He was marvellous, as usual, sat quietly while they took the blood, then came out like a rocket! The nurses had toasted some crumpets for their morning tea break and he was dragging the vet into the kitchen to get at hot buttered crumpets! Danny boy, even at nearly 12 years old has got the pulling power of a locomotive when food is around. Hopefully we will have the results in the morning, but until I know he's alright I'm going to have a dreadful nights sleep, just like last night. Please keep your fingers crossed for him and I'll let you know the news tomorrow.

    Hello

Sorry, Ria is an Italian Spinone, and she's scrumptious If I could remember how to post photo's, I would love you to see them. I was told as I get older I would forget things, but I'm blowed if I can remember exactly what I was told now.
  5. They do look settled in their foster homes. Great to see the two of them doing so well.
  6. Hello to everyone. I've just arrived at The Refuge, looks a lovely forum. My name is Corrine, I live in Kingswinford with Danny, 11 year old hooligan pointer. Ria, my placid girly who is also 11? (approx) Oh, and OH and son. (You can see how far down the pecking order they are) There's not really much more to say, but greetings fellow animal fans.
