The results are back and to be honest I don't think it's great news.
His white cell count is low, potassium levels are up and his immune system is fighting.....something?
The vet has asked for another blood test to be done next week for a comparrison, but they think it may be something to do with his liver. In the meantime keep an eye on him for anything unusual.
My last pointer Charlie, had a tumour in his liver that went undiagnosed for several weeks, he had 3 heart attacks while the vet was treating him for a stomach bug, which they then decided wasn't a bug! Charlie had x-rays and the tumour was discovered, I can never forgive myself for the day he went for that operation when I left him. He knew he wouldn't survive and deep down I knew it too. I had to make the decision to let him go during the operation when they found the tumour was too large to remove and had only about a month to live. I don't think I can let my Danny go through that, or myself if it comes to it. I want to be with him when his time comes, to let him know I love him and care for him.
Perhaps I'm being far too pessimistic, but I have to face up to the fact he's almost 12 years old and won't last forever especially if he becomes seriously ill. Ria won't know what to do without him, they have become inseperable during the 2 years we have had her, she adores him. Whenever we come back from the vets she always checks him over before coming to greet me.
I'll keep you updated with things as they progress, in the meanwhile I'll give him some extra cuddles and treats.
