  1. Taken from the BBC news:

A guide dog has gone missing in an Essex town after being startled and an appeal has been made to residents to help find the black German Shepherd.

Ron Whitt, who is blind, lost Fable after she bolted while being walked by a friend in Brentwood on Thursday.

Sightings suggest two-year-old Fable has been circling the Thorndon, Childerditch and Hartswood areas.

Mr Whitt said he is helpless without Fable and has been scouring the area since she went missing.

He has been camping out and cooking barbeques in an attempt to lure her out of the woodland.

  2. There doesn't appear to be any info on this on the merseyside police site. Wonder why?

Surely there is a policy for dealing with animal welfare in the event of a raid on a rescue, farm, pet shop, breeder etc? If not, then it is time that there was.

Even if I accept that the raids were necessary (As info is limited I'm giving benefit of the doubt at present) then public safety remains a public priority. Allowing frightened animals to escape is putting the public at risk. Perhaps a scared dog who feels cornered, or as simple as a motorist avoiding a collision with a loose and panicking animal. This needs investigation by higher bodies.

(Just a thought. Elections looming, so local councils might show interest for a change?)

  3. Begger! I missed the DnB at the KC stand.

Everytime we headed that way we got hijacked!

We did notice one sad sight. Last year there were a few Rotties in crates, this year it was an exception to see a rottie not in a crate *sigh*

Saw one funny sight though...Rykat filming Pingu for a change! Way to go. Well done Katie too!

  4. On posters that you put through neighbourhood doors add a note asking them to put your poster in their window. Other dog owners will probably be sympathetic enough to do so.

Also visit some of the local areas where there is a good chance of bumping into doggy folk, include areas that you don't normally go. The more that you spread the word (and the quicker) the shorter you may be seperated.

  5. Hi, I have two dogs of my own.

A Westie called Archie, (I renamed him as he was a rescue and his previous name did not suit him), and a mini wire haired daschund called Clifford (and Yes, as in the Big Red Dog) as his coat is a red brindle. They are a right couple of clowns together, however Cliffy is the bully (but a nice one) and pushes Archie around, sleeps in his bed, takes his toys etc. But they get on really well and look good together when we are out. Usually takes about 30 minutes to complete the 5 minute walk to the shops when we are out as everyone stops to see them (and ask if Cliffy is a Dandy Dinmont - NO he is not.!!!)

I can sympathise with walks to the shops doubling in time. We've just come back from the Lake District where our two have been lapping up all of the new attention, espescially from Americans and Spanish folk.

  6. Caroline,

I'm aiming at level 2 too! Hence trying to get 12 months experience under my belt first.

Have you looked at the KC scheme? Initially it's based on self assessment.

    Pingu,

You kept that quiet, you dark horse!!

If you do think of going next year let me know, it'd be nice to have a familiar face along.

Who are you thinking of taking?

I'll probably take Henry as he's the hardest.

  7. Congratulations on passing the course. If that's the residential one in Shropshire It's the very one that I'm targeting for next year.

I've been helping out for roughly 3 months now and it has got to be one of the best things that I've done. even the weather (it's outdoors) doesn't put me off.

It's a right minefield in regards to training though, so many choices. I thought I'd get a year helping out under my belt (make sure that I suit it and that it suits me) then the course will make more sense.

If it's the same one that you went on (dates are about right) it covers quite some ground and ives a taster of the different disciplines?

Love to hear how you got on?

  8. ooh i'm so excited! you live two mins down the road!!!!!!!!! come on sunday it will be fun

Sundays are awkward at the best. I help out at a dog class (Yep! I'm a Wannabe trainer with BIG L plates!)

But when we get a free Sunday (rare) we'll try and join in. Be good for the boys to 'play out'.

Just checked out the dog friendly pubs on the other site. AAaargh! The Chumley and Grovesnor are two we like going to but haven't been in ages because WE DIDN'T THINK THEY TOOK DOGS!!

  9. Hi Jacky,

Sounds like a great idea. I'll have to join the forum first though, can't see much as a guest.

Don't expect perfect dogs, though 'lunatic and noisey' is easily done (why don't they do medals for that? It'd be so much easier!!).

Buckleys chance I think! i'm finishing nights Sunday morn and go straight to dog class 0830 - 1430. Even if I am still standing I'll be near death by then. Must be the only one left who hasn't seen Harvey in person (you too Millie).

Can't get into that forum yet but there's a note saying the walk on the 17th is cancelled, same one?

ooh i'm so excited! you live two mins down the road!!!!!!!!! come on sunday it will be fun

I can't even if it's not the cancelled one. I'll have been working at least 19 hours by the end of class. And knowing my two hounds, awake a lot longer than that

  10. Hello!!

Not on the Wirral but not too far away on Anglesey!

If you get a chance have a look at Dogs Life . A few on here are members and we have some walks in your area. (If you can cope with major barking and lunatic dogs then feel free to join us one day  !!)

    Jacky

oooh we'll have to meet up!!

Sure thing! We're close to Loxdale.

    Hi and welcome Myk :)

I absolutely  white boxers... I used to walk my neighbour's pair for years when I was a teenager. They're definitely big personalities

I'd love to see some pics of boxers doing agility... if you've got any photos, maybe you should start a thread in doggie chatter?

    Hope you like it here...

    Ray

    Hi Ray,

Our two whites were supposed to be a red and brindle, boy and girl. These rascals told us otherwise.

They don't compete at agility but we go on dog days out with Pingu and the rest of our class. His girls and our two have suprised a few.

I do have a couple of shots but I'll have to sort them out.

  12. Hello

I live on the wirral and have a white dog called Henry too

i also have a friend who has a white boxer

Spooky! Spookier still...we're in the Port too!! Whitby area. If you drive you've probably seen two white faces glaring out of the back of the car in front at some point

Oh, and the dogs in the back!!

    :wavey: Hi Myk

I live on the Wirral, in Moreton, and have Jacko, a BC and Toffee, a Cairn Terrier

Hi, you've probably had to duck our two on the local beaches. Leasowe is one of their favourites!

    Hello Myk and welcome :)

Might see you at Crufts if you're going. We're doing working dogs and a second day to shop at all the stalls.

  13. I suppose it helps if you put your intro into the correct thread. Doh!

    Anyway:

Hi, I'm Myk and live on the Wirral in Northwest England with my OH and

Henry - White boxer male. Born 11/05/2003

Diesel - White boxer male. Born 10/05/2003

    The boys are littermates.

Before anyone asks, No- they are not deaf and suffer no other ailments except for the usual boxer issues (Henry has a slight heart murmour).

We regularly train the boys including fun days at agility and hydrotherapy. They have both earned Bronze PDTA's and Diesel has Gold KC GCDS, Henry has Silver but may be having his first stab at Gold soon.

Oh, judging by the animals listed I suspect I'll be seeing Pingu and Ellie on Tuesday nights.
