  1. Wish my wages were going up as much as everything else

I got proper snookered there lol

I was offered my current job last Oct, but due to various issues didn't start till Jan. 2.

If I had started Dec. 31 2007 I would have had an automatic 4.5 % increase on April 1st, instead cos I was 2 days late I got zilcho.

I'll next get a payrise in April 2008.

I'm seriously considering claiming I need a company car, loads of my staff have them, but I don't :biglaugh: ok my salary would go down net due to BIK, but it wouldn't be much more than my diesel/tax/insurance/maintenance every month

I'm sure my claim will go nowhere as I only travel twice a month.

Celeste, ref the Geotherm, the research I did says the same as your OH it's essentially a replacement of your entire system so very expensive to install, espeically in the UK if you don't have grants, over here we do get a huge rebate on such costs.

  2. Was it Nouggatti who was asking what eventing was, well this is a pre novice jump. Years ago I would not have thought twice about it but now it scares the hell out of me! :)

Twas me, I was asking if B.E was what they do at Badminton as I am amazed each year that people voluntarily do it

I am thinking of taking lessons and am looking for a good school at the moment, would this be the right thread to ask some real numpty questions about clothes/boots/basic horsey language or shall I start another elsewhere?

    Thanks :flowers:

  3. I'm open to suggestions! Can I ask what the homeopath did? I mean did they give you tablets or exercises etc?

I do have a set of exercises that I think will help but in the short term they aggravate it and when I've had a bad day I just can't stand the idea of anymore pain or if it's a relatively good day they are so infrequent that I can't bring myself to turn it into a bad day.

The homeopath gave me a specific remedy for me and my personality/issue, in my case rather ironically it was arsenicum

Anyway I took that and a few days later had a small improvement and she worked with me to tweak the dosage levels and then I was *fixed*

My chiro at the same time gave me exercises, one problem I had being double jointed was that my natural sitting positions (I would tend to sit on the sofa with my feet tucked under my ass) were aggravating my injury so I had to relearn normal sitting and not over extend, but I know exactly what you are saying when you talk about exercise causing you grief.

Hope you get it sorted soon :flowers:

  4. I saw them using it on one of the 'housey' programmes. They drilled several around the base of the house and it provided most of the heating for the house year round :) (from memory). Think it was either Grand Designs or Property Ladder?

Twas Grand Designs, I forget the exact episode but it was deffo Grand Designs.

  5. Re heating your house - I heard about something where a pipe is drilled down into the earth, not sure how far, but because the further down you go, the warmer it gets, you can vent the warmth back up to heat a house. I don't think the pipe had to go down that far. Sounds interesting, no idea who does it or how much it costs to install - but it would presumably give free heating...

Aha, something I know a small amount about.

My SIL (who owns a monstrous 5,000 sq feet house) added an extension of half that size to it about 18 months ago.

Our govt put a grant scheme in place for energy efficient means of heating so I told them about that and they did some research.

It's called geothermal heating, and they installed it.

It costs the same as installing a normal central heating system, but it regulates the temperature constantly and keeps it consistent all the time.

Geotherm uses about 10% of the normal amount of energy to generate heat/water.

They were previously on oil, and say that in the 18 months geotherm has already paid for half of the cost of the installation.

  6. We need to replace our gas boiler and I'm strongly considering getting a wood chip boiler in.

Our govt have a scheme where they will reimburse up to 80% (I think) of the installation cost so it would be a temporary big outlay until we got the refund.

Food bills have increased hugely, I finding cooking a batch of stuff and freezing helps as then you know what you have.

Diesel for the car here is now about £1.12 a litre and electricity is due to go up 30%

One of the divisions of the company I work for sells fuel (coal etc) and we can get it at cost as one of our benefits

  7. Sadly Theresa, it has now healed, so no daily update thread I'm afraid :(

It would have been boring anyway,..it was covered for months by splints and springy tension thingies (all to little avail, 'cause I have very little feeling or movement in any of it).

It's actually a damn nuisance 'cause it just sticks out and gets in the way.

(It's not even any good for picking your nose)!

There is talk of removing it if it remains the same ('cause it's actually quite dangerous....I cut it , burn it, and catch it in doors and things, and don't feel anything).

If it does come off, of course I shall be taking my camera with me!

Gosh sorry to hear it took so long to heal :(

Best of luck if you do end up having it removed :flowers:

  8. Thank you all :flowers:

Jen I remember Mr. Bradders, glad to hear he is doing well :)

Over here in bogland, it appears the BHS riding school equivalent is the Association of Irish Riding Schools, they offer some BHS courses.

And I've found a school which is based on a huge estate (several hundred acres) in the village ten miles from here, and they offer the following:

    Group lessons:children / adults

    private/semiprivate: children /adults

    specialised: dressage& showjumping

    indoor/ outdoor sand arenas

    cross country(weather dependant)

    fully qualified & experienced instructors

    livery & schooling available

    hacking

    disabled riding(RDAI)

So I shall give them a ring, and arrange to visit, and also I'll ask one of the laydees in work who has horses if she has heard of them (she has bold horses, one of them is having some sort of strop the past few weeks, and gave laydee a nice ankle injury by kicking her  )

If it turned out to be a nice place, and the people were nice, it would be absolutely perfect, as I know the estate itself, and it's gorgeous, would be ideal for just going out for an hour or so (lots of wooded areas, a few streams/rivers, and loads of fields/space)

And it's run by the couple/family who own the estate too

Hmm I'm feeling quite excited now

Wenders eta; Thanks! My local riding school here is not brilliant imo (full of teenboppers in jodphurs chuntering away in groups) so the one further away might be ideal, and my local riding school is not part of the AIRE either.

  9. I'd like to learn horse riding and general horsemanship (is that a word?) as a hobby.

Primarily just a hobby, I'd like to be confident about basic skills, but don't have any ambitions to be a horseowner so I would be looking for a good school that will teach me the basics.

Any suggestions as to what I should look for from a stables/school that offers lessons please?

  10. Could you take your aunt out for lunch/dinner, tell her the truth and ask her to talk to your Mum about it, but in a "i know nothing, but have been wondering how you are really" type of way?

Armed with the knowledge from yourself she could then balance what your Mum is saying?

Is your Mum maybe a bit depressed/down trying to cope?

:flowers: to you all, I hope you sort it :flowers:

ETA: Don't be apologising all you are doing is seeking help for your Mum and asking advice :flowers:

  11. Personally, were I Sol's human slave, and bound to suffer a Sol strop if I went against him, I would just play it in 3/4 when he wishes it to be so, and put it on a walkman/ipod/listen to it on headphones at 4/4 when I wanted to, so as to avoid strops :flowers:

Should he need to perform to this tune in public I would go with 3/4, otherwise the quality of his performance may be affected by Soluffiness :(

  12. Not on my unemployed budget you don't. Thomas Sanderson apparently regularly get orders in excess of £5k. For bloody blinds. Madness. I am taking the Argos £19.99 x 6 route and sticking them up by the as-yet-undecided method

    Holy mother!

I've put up plenty of blinds here on "normal" windows using the "drill hole in window ceiling, insert rawlplug and screw blind in place" method and the stay up fine.

HTH for the wall bits of the conservatory, am sorry but have no help to offer on the roof bit.

My blinds that I have put up don't look any different from the original blinds we had profesionally installed.

If it's for the wall bits of the conservatory, you could put up nice voiles instead as an alternative?

  13. Dunno if you are a fan of homeopathy, but in Jan 2005 I was knocked over in the street by a person and fractured my hip and ended up with meralgia parasthetica (trapped nerve in hip)

Anyway after almost a year of non stop excruciating pain from my hip up my buttocks, into my back, and all the way down into my ankles, in desperation I went to a homeopath.

Two weeks later for the first time since my accident I was able to climb stairs.

A month later I had the great pleasure of walking my dogs for the first time since the accident.

Six months later I was back playing rugby and have never needed to go back to the homeopath.

I periodically now trap my nerve and go to my chiropractor who untraps it pretty quick.

The one thing I cannot do is go bowling as the motion of bowling traps the nerve.

I used find stretching very very good for the pain, but I am double jointed and my chiro warned against excessive stretching when I was in most pain as this can cause spasms.

    HTH :flowers:

  14. I've had to tell the kids [they were at school]

Ellis is beng very quiet. Sam has insisted we pin a note to the tree outside with directions to the vets. This is so the angels know where to collect his soul from tonight :mecry:

    thankyou from Sam
