  1. Our house gets discoloured, white to greyish, the whole estate has this problem. What we do, or rather husband does, is uses a solution of bleach on the walls then rinses it off with the hose. Companies do come round our way offering to clean the outside but no idea what they charge. We use a biggish plant sprayer thing to apply it, was from B and Q. What you have to do though is wear goggles and remove all plants and stuff from beside the walls. You could always try doing a small area to see if it helps.

  2. Our local council offers free compost from local recycling place, just need to bag it and take what you can load into car. Morrisons, supermarket, sell large black empty flower buckets 99p for approx 10.These are large enough for baby carrots, lettuce, leeks, peas, just drill holes in bottom of them. I got a lot of seeds in local £1 shop last year, look for the mixed packs of veg. They also have stuff like seed potatoes and shallots so well worth a look.

  3. I came on to see if anyone had noticed an improvement in their dog's behaviour.

Have to say I'm pleased, Maddie seems more relaxed generally. We've had a fairly quiet couple of weeks anyway because Holly had stitches in her paw so walks have been mainly in the fields on softer ground. so not on the busier footpaths.

She's been much less reactive when noticing other dogs even from the back of the car.Today she spotted a lab in the playing fields when we went for a runaround with the ball. Usually that would have been enought to trigger off some barking but nothing happened, she just chased her ball and totally ignored the other dog. A few weeks ago I would have put her on her lead and waited till they had left the playing fields. I feel much more relaxed taking her out. So glad I tried these on her.

  4. I ordered some as well, thought it would be worth trying for Maddie.Got email saying despatched 18th but as yet haven't received it. Spoke to postie today, he reckons there's a delay somewhere along the line as there were very few packages out for delivery today. Glad I'm not the only one waiting.

  5. Poor puupy, wondering if there is another reason, if he's not well or wife ill or something. He probably just finds the dog a bit much, folk forget how much work pups are. Does his wife walk the pup or is it just him? She maybe more open to suggestions.

  6. I use a harness with Maddie, for the same reason better than her choking.

A lot of it is excitement at going for a walk and she always walks much better on the way home.

Ideally all dogs should walk to heel but they don't. Walking to heel takes lots of time and patience to perfect. Don't wory about what this person said, it's your dog and your choice.

  7. Keep persisting with ringing - Environmental Health are normally very helpful on things like this.

And have a look on the Council's website - sometimes they have a "contact us" e-mail system, with a "promise" to look at a problem within 48 hours or similar.

When people across from us were having building work done, the builders rigged up floodlights and worked evenings till 9-10.30ish. It drove me mad because they began around 8ish and also did weekends. It went on for months.

  8. Was at docs yesterday but no info re swine flu in our local surgery, everything was very quiet which is surprising as it's usually busy and a good few days wait to get an appointment. I only made appointment on Monday morning and was offered one next day with a choice of doctors. There have been a few local cases so was expecting to have to wait for a non urgent appointment.

  9. I had a very worrying and upsetting letter this morning from social services to say they'd received a complaint via the NSPCC regarding my children and coud I please call them  So I did and the woman I spoke to couldn't find anything on her computer to do with my girls at all so said she'd ask around and call me back. I waited until 12.30, mostly in tears, before calling again to ask what was going on. Eventually I got to speak with a social worker who apologised and said she can't believe the small mindedness of some people but for the sake of ticking boxes on the paperwork she had to speak to me. The NSPCC received an annonymous complaint from somebody concerned with the welfare of my children. Apparently I have three dogs that poo all over the garden, eight cats that never go out and over 20 chickens in a shocking state in the garden. I never clean them out. The children are allowed to play outside with the chickens. The children have free access to the outside. One child even climbs into the chicken coop. The complainant is concerned about the health and welfare of the children amongst all this.

I explained my three dogs all toilet in one place in the garden that is regularly cleaned. I do not have as many as eight cats anymore, one of them is a housecat because she's brain damaged, the rest come and go as they please. My chicken coops are as clean as they can be, and my Environmental Health officer can confirm this as he also receives regular complaints from a neighbour and he has seen for himself a number of times how well looked after they all are. Georgia cannot lift the nest box roof off to collect the eggs and does sometimes climb through the front door to collect eggs. My back door leads from the kitchen to the garden, of course the children have access to it. All children are fit and well as their schools & doctors have confirmed. But because a complaint was made she had to follow it up, even if it was ridiculous and done maliciously.

Only one neighbour can actually see where Georgia climbs into the coop so I know who it is. It's the same one who complains almost daily to Environmental Health, the one who reported me to the police for returning his slug pellets to his garden. Him and his wife stand at their window watching us outside. He stands in his garden listening to what we say in our garden. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe how much I detest him. I am going to see a solicitor about his bullying and harassment. I'm expecting the RSPCA on my doorstep any day now.

We've had a, hopefully now sorted neighbour problem this week, and one of the things I investigated was planting some screening in the way of fast growing bamboos and climbers so they can't see in. Is that an option? Hope that you get this sorted out.
