  1. So many people with sick relatives too. Alicia, can social worker speak to your mum about a carer. We had a live in carer for MIL. Its not good relying on the neighbour as you can't bank on them being there Has she got a Safe and Sound necklace? (or whatever your area calls them- its a panic button that autodials a predetermined number). If not, ask your SW about them. Is Lewis helping with any of your current problems? Snow, sounds like you maybe right or at least someone has had their nose shoved out of joint and is trying to take some control over what you do. Cany you bring it up at all, maybe make a joke out of it or something in front of them so they know that you are onto them? Amy, everyones problems, niggles, joys, news is as important as everyone else' I know what you mean about getting itchy feet. I was like that before we went away last year. Why dont you suggest to one of your friends about going somewhere? Or you could drag Jayne along. Alex. Great news about your exam, not so great about your test results or work. I hope the doc can get to the bottom of whats been wrong so you can get it treated soon. As for work, one more exam to go then you are free to look elsewhere.
  2. Havent read any real books for ages! Usually magazines and photography books these days. My daughter has bought me a book called Water for Elephants (cos it had pics of elephants on the front no doubt and I love elephants). Any one read it? Its going to be my caravan book I think. Might actually get some peace there to read it.
  3. I have been pretty good today. Had a punnet strawberries and banana for brekkie, small wholemeal sub roll with cheese/onion, peach for lunch, pear this afternoon, then salad of quorn (sliced roast), salad leaves asparagus and hard boiled egg. I did then have an ickle bit of cake cos it was my birthday cake so I have to eat it! I have saved the last bit for Lauren so I dont have to eat any more.
  4. Mags Bought sauces are pretty bad. You can make them yourself fairly easily using passatta then just add what you want, onions, mushrooms, herbs etc. With the syn free chips I can never get them right. I do wedges instead using jacket potatoes. Just cut them up with skin on, cover in spray oil and salt and give them a shake. Roast in fairly hot oven for 35 - 40 mins depending on your oven/how thick you cut them. You will need to turn them over during cooking. Love them with extra low fat mayonnaise ==
  5. Lots of positive thoughts for Boo tomorrow.
  6. Oh by the way, I last went to group on 11th April. Weighed in today with 3lb on. Quite pleased with that considering our last few weeks! Went to Morrisons on the way home and bought more fruit and salad.
  7. Well done on the quitting Mags. I put nearly two stone on when I quit smoking. In answer to your question re SW (dont know about WW), yes and no! It can involve lots more cooking, but you can get away without cooking if you want to buy certain convenience foods, but then you will spend more money. Your diet doesnt look to bad. You mention about cooking, then say you eat things like shepherds pie. Is this shop bought or made? Lots of convenience foods, especially sauces, are loaded with calories. Salt added as preservatives then counteracted with sugars. Easy things to make on SW, are shepherds pie, chilli, spag bol curry, jacket potato, pasta. Its basically going back to pre processed days of eating with fresh ingredients. Though as I said you can eat prepacked foods too if you need to. Pasta in sauce, instant rices, certain tinned soups, tinned veg, lean meat of any kind, not including sausages, burgers. Quorn is mostly free too. Have a look at the recipes on the website. As for cooking two meals, no. You can all eat the same food and if you didnt tell hubby he probably wouldnt even notice. Quite a lot of partners end up losing weight too because they are eating what the family eats. No I am not on commission, I just know it works if you eat the right things. Trial menu
  8. Snow, sorry to hear you are poorly. Be grateful though that you are expected NOT to go to work. I would be expected to work regardless! No end of times I have had to leg it down two flights of stares tryingn to be sick until I get to the bathroom! Alex, could that be your diver....whatsit? You always seem to get it when you are particularly stressed. Agree with Alex! Tell him you are not Mums ONLY child! And you have enough to deal with with your own health! There is one in every family hun! Ours is Kent with a 'U'!! Massive hugs to you We have MIL ashes back and have just booked a weekend in Cornwall to 'take her home'. Twatty BIL (see above) was going to send her down with some lorry driver, which is marginally better than posting her down which was what he was originally wanting to do! Michelle I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous of you!! I can't wait until I can leave the hellhole that I work at.. Shame as I love my job just not many people that work there that make it difficult to bear.
  9. On that note I am of to bed. Goodnight all x
  10. Julia you can go off people you know! I am so not a granny!! Is the 2yr old foster the pink baby as was? Must be fun having a toddler around again. I don't relish that bit of being a nanny. Think its going to be a case of we will visit you until baby is about 5. Neo will be grey or have no hair left where he has stress chewed!
  11. Val, you have a lot to deal with so maybe just start with small changes. As for the situation you are dealing with, get the social worker to give you more help! They should know which homes deal with dementia and will take the funding. We were given a choice of and told to ring them to find out which had beds available. The rest was sorted out by them. Mags, at least you are staying steady and not increasing. More than I can say today.
  12. Errr... less of the nanny please Mags! Plenty of time for that! Its been another difficult situation that we have been dealing with in conjunction with MIL but its all sorted now. I am already thinking about getting my knitting needles down from the loft! Everyone forget what I put on diet thread! I have not stopped eating today! I think it must be nearly time of the month as I am craving food.... any food.... give me food!! If I eat anything else I will burst! I did refuse ice cream and have SW potato salad that I had left over so feeling quite proud of myself. However my ice cream is still in the freezer.
  13. It is now we have got used to the idea. I am way to young to be a nanny so said I will tell people I am the hired help!
  14. What a handsome boy and lovely name. Such a shame he is still waiting. I hope that now he is in a home he will get the publicity he deserves (that means lots of photos)
  15. I want mine!! Was thinking about them this morning. Only 3.5 weeks to go! Dogs walked, dogs sleeping , wine poured, dinner is cooking. Gave up with the allotment idea today. The walks against the wind up the hills knackered me out. Oh and I can tell you some good news now, I am going to be a nanny in October. My step-daughter is 4months pregnant now.
  16. Louise, what a cute puppy Marge, I was awake at this morning again Let Neo out for wee in the garden then went back to bed! We have noisy birds too which wakes him up. Trouble with having a noise sensitive dog. Alex, do you ever have a totally 'do nothing' day? Hubby is watching the F1 while I take the dogs out. Had a more 'normal' day yesterday. Hubby dyed my hair, went shopping and did some cooking which I havent for a while. Going to take the dogs over the hills and then might go to the allotment for an hour before doing dinner.
  17. Wow, well done Sandra Though I have been eating cake (bought for my birthday) I have been trying to stick to SW plan the rest of the time. Made a yummy curry for dinner yesterday with leftover for today or tomorrow. Can't remember the last time I weighed myself but have lost a pound since then. I am going to weigh in tomorrow at class as I havent been for a few weeks when MIL was poorly/funeral etc. I am still within target (on my scales) so see where I am really. Val, how are you doing? Do you need any help?
  18. Alex, I hope the noise settled down early on last night. I know what its like suffering noise pollution. A reason we bought our caravan to get away for it when the weather is good. Amy, glad you found your camera. Lynn, sounds like a fab job for you. Could you email them too? Ingi, glad you are over your 'cold' now! Marge, hope the lotties enjoy your cake. I am doing normal things this weekend. Going to get hair trimmed before hubby dyes it for me (purple) Then may go and have a look what gardening stuff they have left in Great Mills, before a trip to the allotment to see how the weeds are growing. We have been looking at holidays too but not our usual kind.
  19. Thank you Not planning much for the weekend in the hope we can chill
  20. Val, yes Muller lights and Shape zero yoghurts are free on SW. I prefer the latter as they are creamier therefore feel naughtier Cheryl, half off is better than half on. I have been really bad the last few weeks and eaten a whole lot of rubbish! Been living on pizza, indian snack foods, eating out etc. I have put on about 4.5lb so Alex you are not on your own Decided to give myself a kick up the bum yesterday so made a SW potato salad last night for todays lunch and had a punnet of strawberries and a yoghurt for brekkie.. Not sure the chip butties, wine and cake will help tonight though. Back to healthy eating tomorrow.
  21. Alicia, sorry to hear about Poppy. Marge, I will have slopey cake. I am not fussy! Jack is so cute! Alex, have a nice chilled weekend, and no more plant buying! Owl, glad you have managed to purchase a new van. for poorly dogs.. Starving is usually best policy for runny tums to start with, then scrambled egg and rice. Hubby had prepared me a glass of wine and lemonade complete with cherries, and cocktail decorations for when I got home. 3hrs later I still haven't finished drinking it.. I am such a lightweight these days! Amy, can you look what the last photos were you downloaded? Might help you remember where you put your camera?
  22. Alex, your blue lettering goes right off the page! And sounds like you need to get another sofa for yourself. Alicia, what else is happening? You sound like you are having another bad day. Sam, . Do you have a freezer to put food in so you can make up batches of meals? Marge, never heard of the hoe but will google it shortly. Anything that helps with the back ache is good. We havent been to the allotment again for couple weeks so dreading going tomorrow (if its not pizzing down). Think the weeds will be growing nicely if the ones in our garden are anything to go by! Went to see MIL this morning at funeral directors. It was a strange feeling but she just looked so peaceful. Then we all went to Merry Hell shopping for clothes this afternoon for the funeral. I bought a nice smart dress, tried on the size 12then bought it in a size 10! Step daughter was most jealous!
  23. Happy gotcha day to a very cute boy!
  24. Jules, well done for sorting the dog out. Alicia, this is more or less exactly how we started out. My heart goes out to you hun as I know exactly how you are feeling. Michelle, glad Fergus hasn't got anything serious.. Boys and their toys! Alex, what are you going to do on your week off? Plant some more rhodedendruns? Or however you spell it! Been having a hard time at work with work/training overload, dealing with MIL loss and trying not to show it in front of hubby. Today started me off when I asked what form I needed to complete for Monday as day off for her funeral (after asking two days ago and not getting as response). I apparently have to book it as holiday! Seems to be a case of depends who you are whether you can take time off in that place! Just waiting for them to need me to work overtime for some reason! I am going to be VERY busy!!
