  2. I've complained several times in the past about this particular postie Griff and he's had a hell of a telling off from me too after he was nasty with Archie. They don't seem to want to do anything about him. As the rest of the posties are lovely and often go the extra mile for us I don't want to go to a higher level than the sorting office manager for fear of getting them all told off or sanctioned in some way. Ruby wasn't bothered as the contents were in perfect condition so she said "let it be". She's had loads of pressies. Her staff got her a lovely sponge cake decorated with pencils made of fondant, a bunch of flowers, a silk scarf and a matching silver necklace and ear-rings. Others in her company treat their staff like shite but it's always been Ruby's philosophy to treat others as she likes to be treated and it comes back in spades to her as they are very loyal to her.

  3. Have you ever tried the tanning booth, Griff? where they turn you round like a spit roast? Philip just came back from walking Candy and said he'd been round the field and was coming back down the jitty and met this group of late teen/early twenties standing near the end in clouds of very aromatic smoke. He said they were very chatty and complimented him on the fact his sunglasses matched his t shirt. I said never mind that, didn't you ask them where they got the stuff from?😏

  4. Anything that prolongs your independance is a good thing Suzeanna. No compensation required - you get 3 points for a pensioner, 4 for an annoying brat and 6 for anyone taking a selfie 😂

  5. Neighbours 2 doors along, the ones whose collie likes to race Wispa along the gardens, called across to me with a lovely offer. They do not need a delivery slot they booked with ASDA 2 weeks ago as they have managed to go and do a shop. So they have offered me the password so I can use their slot.

  6. This should give you all a laugh...I've been having the odd Tena Lady moment as I've been coughing so hard. I don't have any Tena Lady, but I do have a pack of Bodyform I got when the letrozole caused bleeding, so I thought one of them would do. Unfortunately, being sleep deprived and not really looking at what I was doing, it wasn't until I plonked one in place and pulled up my knickers that I realised I'd got the sticky side against me, not the underwear!

  8. He clearly hasn't got any kind of handle on this one. If he hasn't seen the conflict in your family for himself he may find it hard to imagine how serious it is. I have had a chat with my sister (not mentioning your name but explaining the situation) because in her years as a minister she has had to organise help for various people in crisis. There should be an Emergency Housing Officer attached to your council who should be available outside normal office hours, and because of your serious health problems combined with threat of violence you should qualify as a vulnerable adult. This would mean that the council are required to provide housing under an Act in 2014. Worth following up.

  10. Anyone who is feeling down wants a laugh and doesn't mind rude language, find Fascinating Aida singing "Dogging". Philip was nearly in tears with laughter listening to them. There is another they've done but I won't recommend that one, it's extremely bad language. Philip keeps in touch with the people he used to work with, and a few weeks ago was Skyped by one of his female friends, saying her husband kept having bad headaches and now blackouts and was going for an MRI scan. She messaged Philip again yesterday, Sean had the results of the scan...a tumour, but until he's seen by the relevant department they wont know if it's benign or not. She was asking how he/we cope with knowing I have serious health issues and Philip told her all you can do is live life as normal, until the day that it isn't. I think that's the only way to deal with things, so anyone waiting on a diagnosis (Griff) or with family or friends in that position, act as if everything is fine and hopefully you'll find that it is. Thus ends the sermon for today.

  11. Best of luck with the scans Lol..sardine Sunday.. brilliant Hopefully ruby's eyesight will be back to usual soon. I am going to party party party tonight and for once in my life my mum won't care how much I drink

  12. No, didn't know there were any. My husband is a comedian! Our hamster has turned out to be rather reclusive, Philip was peering into its cage last night and I said any sign? He said yes, a tiny one by his house, it says f off!

  13. I can confirm you are no minger Griff, quite the opposite. And Steve is far too complex a person for it to be as simple as not wanting to be seen with you. Think of him as a rescue dog, where you don't know the full background, and with many issues that need worked through gradually. Which you're doing brilliantly.

  14. I'm sitting in the ward but finally my stats have gone up after loads of oxygen, steroids, antibiotics and 4 sessions on a nebulizer. I might get out tonight. They know I am keen to go. I am loads better and feel grand now. Just waiting for dr to OK it.

  15. 😂😂 Suzeanna. I know a fellow Cumbrian who just cannot be doing with Geordies. He hates the accent & more than once has been set upon by a drunken bunch of them over here on holiday when he was a young man. He took up genealogy later in life so imagine his face the day he found out he was descended from a long line of them on one branch of his family tree 😂😂😂😂

  16. Just checking all is in order because of the trouble my asthma has been giving me Suzeanna. I was always a very "chesty" child and got frequent bouts of bronchitis & had whooping cough as well as the asthma. Oh yes, I've got my diabetes levels right down and if I continue at this rate I will end up out of the diabetic range. I'm going to go for it.

  17. had a busy couple of days last weekend with visitors but they enjoyed themselves, despite the language barrier. It was their first time out of Romania and were amazed at the shades of green in the vegetation. They have grass for a month or two. Outside that it is too hot or too cold. My nephew went gluten free and says he feels much better for it. He is a PE teacher who plays sport in his free time so needs his health and energy. I cut down some overgrown rhododendrons yesterday. They were taking over the bit of garden. The space is bigger now. Some branches were thick and were difficult yo cut, Last night and this morning I could hardly move my right arm. It is slightly better now but my elbow is painful. JIm is still in a lot of pain in his chest. She thinks it is scarring from the drain removal and should resolve itself. After we told her about our last appointment fiasco she contacted the oncologist and he agreed to another CT and blood test before his appointment on Tuesday. Only problem was the CT machine was broken. It was fixed on Friday so a scan was arranged for Monday. I think she is just being cautious- I hope so. Meantime he is dozed up with Morphine and anti inflammatories and spends more time asleep then awake. I hope you can return to normal life soon , griff. Having nightmare neighbours is no fun. You should be able to lead your own life without interference from people like that.

  18. Very sad Griff. Poor man, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Very happy to help Owl whenever. Just shout 👍 I sent my DNA sample off today though they've changed the collection times so I missed today's collection. It will take 6-8 weeks anyway from when they get the sample. I may be told that I am related to some archaic grain as I noticed a tiny bit of my breakfast went in the pot. I had gluten free flakes made from foodstuffs typical of an iron age diet. They were shite 🙁

  23. That's a good start, weeing in garden. Quick learner! So much cooler here today, whew! Yesterday I had day off from my watering duties, thought ok stay home and keep as cool as I can, relax. Checked village Facebook group, sudden emergency. A lady had been to the new council cemetery and found someone had scattered sharp nails all over the car park. Strong sharp ones over an inch long. She had to go to work, said there was a man there trying to clear them up. So I said I would get down there asap with broom and dustpan. Arrived, no man there. Not surprised, impossible to do it all by hand, and of course tehy were in full sun and red hot to touch. I set to work protected by hat and loads of sunscreen, swept half the car park, managed to stop 2 cars from driving on to them. Then the council workers arrived in big van. I ran across and shouted at them to stop, they ignored me so I got in front of the van, jumped up and down waving the broom, shouting STOP. They looked disgusted with me, couldn't work out why. Then when I got them to understand and showed them the nails, they said don't worry, our problem now, and got out the leaf blower which was much easier than broom. Later I realised why they looked at me, appalled. Poor guys, sweltering in regulation council hi vis overalls, going to do routine work at cemetery, and suddenly a crazy old lady wearing a big hat and cargo shorts rushes at them brandishing a broom and yelling. They must have thought that was the last thing they needed, a confrontation with the village witch.

  24. Hope you recorded it on your phone Griff, handy evidence for the police if needed. Eve, some of your weather seems to have wandered down here, sun is shining for the first time in ages! If it stays bright we're ...hold your breath...going for a drive to the Peaks. If any cop stops us I'll wilt down in my seat and do my best "poor cancer patient wanting to see the moors" act!

  25. I haven't met someone famous, but I was mistaken for someone well known in Greece! We were in Kos, and as we were walking past restaurants people were smiling and waving at us. I thought they were being friendly, though it did seem a bit over the top. We asked a young lad..about 12 year old..if we were on the right track for the beach and he said "You are on Big Brother!". Erm, no...I'm English not Greek, why would I be on Greek Big Brother? I don't think he was convinced though and we kept getting attention when we went into the town.

  26. Owl, the letter I got was from the NHS, not the council. My hair is growing..but still falling out, which is rather weird. It's nearly long enough to put in a pony tail, except at my age I suppose it's more of an old mare's tail!

  27. I used to work with a lovely girl who misheard the lyrics to Poetry In Motion. I had to stop and listen one day when she was singing along to as I wasn't 100% sure I had heard right. I had. She was singing "Oh a tree in motion". Every time I hear the song now it makes me giggle. I'm not perfect though. I thought that Neil Diamond song Forever In Blue Jeans was The Reverend Blue Jeans for years until someone put me right. Oh and Prince Charming by Adam and The Ants was Prince Chow Mein.

  28. I have no idea what the mice are doing at the reserve. The Muddy Fork project which grows veg and also raises young trees for the reserve has been closed, but I am sure that Dom the guy in charge will be going to look after the fruit and veg production as that is a necessary job. There is a firm in Retford which delivers veg boxes and they take a lot of stuff. Also the beekeeper will be going in to check the hives. As for what mice are up to, probably having a lot of fun but I expect Dom will catch and relocate a few. Very young people did extraordinary things during ww2. When my mum was 23 and expecting me, she went on working until a fortnight before I was born because no one told her to stop. She couldn't get into uniform so was wearing a porter's coat. She was sister in charge of a small high security hospital at Didcot which housed POWs who had been wounded and captured, including some Luftwaffe airmen.

  29. My god mother was in the Special Operations Executive in WW2, and was parachuted into occupied France. She kept some of the things they were given in a securely locked box at home but she showed me once and they included the cyanide pill they were given in case of capture, and a few other James Bond like gizmos. Never mentioned grenades though!

  32. Thorough washing with soap and hot water is best, apparently, but hand sanitizer very useful as a protective barrier when out and about. I don't know that a harness stops pulling but it spreads the pulling area and makes it less of a tug of war. There is no way I could handle Wispa without one. It's good to have 2 leads, again to spread the pulling area. I have one to harness and one to neck, but 2 to harness is fine if you have 2 places to connect them. Mice have learned not only to take peanut butter bait and get out of traps, but had the cheek to drag some bits of stolen onion in there. When mice start using the trap as a handy storage area, you have the wrong trap. These are the multi-mouse traps that we caught so many in last year. This lot are obviously much smarter.

  33. I am very lucky that I have work where I can make a contribution without actually doing much physically. I can't do any of the conservation work or anything like that, and left the sheep team as a regular member as I was slowing everyone up. The people are very good in that they are happy for me to choose what I can do, which is generally hang around and keep an eye on things, especially now that a lot of the sheep plus all the cattle are in a huge field right on my patch. I did notice a young Hebridean behaving oddly last week and flagged this up. He was eating and walking about OK but away from the other sheep and just looked confused and anxious. Turned out that he is very short sighted and could not see the other sheep in such a big field. Poor thing kept getting lost. He has been moved to another group in a small field and has settled well now that he can find his flockmates. I can also be an extra person for health and safety reasons, if someone is working alone on the reserve with machinery and requires someone else to be present in case of accident. Likewise with the Muddy Fork project. I cannot do any heavy work but I can water during the summer, and no one asks me to do more.

  34. I'm glad to read that Wispa is improving Owl but sorry you missed the cattle drive. Eve I like the sound of haggis bon-bons. It's nice to have a sofa day every once in a while. I took Tye out this morning (bloody sick of numpty dog owners though who let their dogs run up to him when he's on-lead) and glad I did so early as the weather changed not long after. It's gone wet and cold. We were planning another walk this afternoon but decided to stay put. We might have a street walk before bed IF it isn't too wet. We are having a warm-up Xmas dinner tonight and then tomorrow I will make a Turkey and ham pie with the left overs. Have a nice evening everyone 👍

  39. We are being home checked in the morning. Fingers crossed everyone. The house is a tip! It will show we are not precious about our stuff and if Tye pees on the carpet, he pees on the carpet. We've got a carpet shampooer. Oooh I've just given his name away haven't I? OK he's called Tyson, which is on my list of most hated names, so we are going to call him Tye. He looks like a Bernard really but he's too old for such a radical change of name and we are guessing he will have heard Tye before.

  40. That sounds perfect Owl Had my phone appointment with my own GP. First thing she said was "wow, you gave everyone a scare last week". Anyway she's booked me in to the asthma clinic on Tuesday just before my flu jab appointment but told me if I start having any sort of problem before then to call. Receptionists know to put me right through.

  42. Lily loves telly, especially if it features dogs 🥰 Her fave is Lost and Found. Maz tell the receptionist if the doctor cant see you, you'll have to go to A&E. It costs my doctors £60 every time a patient of theirs goes to the hospital, so they are very keen to avoid that. We had a lovely long walk. Lil's recall is coming along brilliantly and 80% of the time she races back to me when I call her, but is she's interacting with another dog I might as well be shouting at the moon.

  43. Yay! My half sister took on board that my brother and I objected back when we first found out. She wouldn't want him buried with her mother so why would we. He's going to be cremated and neither her or any us gives a damn what happens to the ashes. He really isn't a nice man and what you sew you reap comes to mind. Thanks for listening to me vent!

  45. Beautiful shoes, griff. You must have good balance to walk in them. I would faceplant. Things are settling down i my life. Ostrich egg omelette has duly landed on faces of those who well deserve it. Going for a last drive in old car up to river Torne near Epworth for a sunset stroll. Might as well use up the fuel and Wispa loves it there.

  47. Only odd thing that happened to me today was going into polling station and giving my surname and address and being told I was not registered to vote. Excuse me, I certainly am. You can't be, we only have Danzil R P Cooper registered. That cannot be you. Yes it is. Man looks very doubtful but I can get ID from car if needed. He consults the other two poll officers and they accept that I am me. That was reassuring as I had started to wonder who the hell I am.

  49. Last fine day here for a while. April showers coming in here from tomorrow, much needed as it is getting dry and water levels are low. Griff you will always be beautiful regardless of future snub nose and you will never look like a pig xx Yesterday I transported such a sweet girl for part of her journey from Worcester to the other side of Harrogate. GSP liver ticked, not more than 3 years old at most, but her teats showed she had at least 3 litters. Bred before reaching full maturity, like so many from dodgy breeders. Unchipped of course, found wandering round a housing estate, but docked so has come from working stock. Not at all nervous, a bit underweight but she is now in a great rescue and they will build her up.
