November Nearly Christmas

One person used to run outside with her dog and encourage it to bark to tell the fireworks off to stop it being afraid.

Mine have never heard fireworks so I don't know how they would be. Cleo might be frightened but I think Murphy would bark at them except now he is going deaf he might not hear them.

There was a bloody great bang right outside our house the other night from a firework. I nearly hit the ceiling it gave me such a fright. In the past Archie would have been a quivering wreck but fortunately he didn't hear it. I don't know why they can't legislate and make all fireworks noiseless. I think it's awful how some people are allowed to inflict bloody explosions like that on others and, in particular, animals. Grrrr.

I had a physio session this morning and took my neighbour down so she could visit the minor injuries unit at our cottage hospital. She fell down the stairs last night and her left arm is paining her. It's the same side she had a shoulder replacement done a few years back. I've come home and am waiting a call that she is either good to come home or needs taking to the hospital in Carlisle.

Hope neighbour is not badly hurt.

Wispa wanted to go out and fight the fireworks, always has done until last year when she decided they were not worth bothering with. We will just have the TV on and hope ti distracts her.

The mouse situation is no longer a joke. Traps out again tonight in the hope that they have forgotten how to disable them. They cannot get at anything edible but just like coming into the warm and romping around the place.

Owl, JIm found peanut butter was the best for the traps as they couldn't pinch it and go.

There is a post going round Facebook showing a greyhound lying in a shower cubicle and it is a quivering wreck due to fireworks.

I don't see why they are sold to the public at all. When JIm had his shop he had to have a special licence and secure storage for black powder but that is what is in fireworks so anybody could take the powder out of the firework and use for other purposes.

Licensed bonfires with fireworks should be enough but it is not for our benefit that the Government won't restrict them . It is for the Chinese and other nationalities who want to celebrate with them.

Should we be celebrating someone committing treason?

And since the Millennium everybody has to set them off at New Year as well now.

We never bought the kids fireworks. We went to an organised bonfire.

I hope your neighbour has not done any serious damage , Yantan.

Yet another fine, sunny day again. Spent yesterday putting plants to bed fin the greenhouse for the winter. It was a very pleasant 10 degrees in the afternoon.

We are having a big clear out. We are getting a new bedroom carpet and have to remove the furniture. We have a fitted wardrobe along one wall but also a separate single wardrobe and chest of drawer unit.

All are full to bursting!

I would like to do away with the single wardrobe. JIm has coats that have not been worn for at least 12 years since we came up here , and he is unlikely to wear them again, but he still wants to keep them!

Of course I should get rid of my stuff because ' do you really need that?'

Funny how that applies to me but not him.

Have tried peanut butter but will give it another go.

November 5th is not celebrating someone committing treason. It is celebrating someone being hung, drawn and quartered for trying to blow up a government which supported the ruthless persecution of Catholics. It took 4 days of torture before Guy Fawkes gave the names of co-conspirators. I don't think there is anything to celebrate here.Terrible wrongs on both sides. I am not a Fawkes supporter, but James I was truly awful in his persecution of both Catholics and innocent people alleged to be witches.

I am meeting RSPCA officer at river at 4 pm to discuss swan.

My neighbour has broken her arm, or her elbow. She was a bit glazed over when I collected her and I don't think she'd quite taken in all they had told her. Anyway it's beyond the cottage hospital and she needs to see a specialist at Carlisle. They told her to go prepared in case they have to operate. I brought her home and she was going to phone her daughter to come through and take her up to Carlisle. I'm glad she wanted her daughter to take her as I find driving distances difficult with my leg and in any case I can't leave Archie for any length of time. And of course today of all day's Ruby is away at an exhibition in Brum and won't be back till 7ish.

Oh and they would have sent her by ambulance but she refused.

My 3 aren't worried by fireworks, first dogs that I've ever had for 35 years where not one of them is a quivering wreck. Not that we get many round here anyway. A few on bonfire night and a few at New Year.

Hope your neighbour's daughter can take her to Carlisle and you don't have to do the journey Yantan.

Ha ha Blackmagic, we have wardrobes in every bedroom like that. Mostly coats and jackets and we're as bad as each other as to what not to throw out.

How did the meeting about the swan go Owl?

Poor neighbour.

RSPCA officer was held up and by the time he was available the light had gone so mission aborted and we went home. Wispa had a good walk though, and swan was much the same. He has become as interested in me as I am in him and comes to say hello.
