February's Flippin' Faffing

A deer crossed our path this morning and then just stood and checked us out as we walked toward it (we being Archie and I.) Archie doesn't bother until something moves fast so I started making a noise by calling Archie back to put him on a lead. Despite me calling the deer still stood watching us. Suddenly there was a movement from the right and another one ran across to join it. They both then stood and watched us. I should have got my phone out to take pics but I was too busy getting Archie back and on his lead.

They both then just strolled away from the path but continued grazing and looking up occasionally to see where we were.

I've often seen deer on this walk, generally much earlier in the morning though and they have always taken flight as soon as they spot or hear us. Wonder what was up with these 2 this morning. They both looked healthy and with no obvious injuries and when they did move they did so fluidly and without problems.

Archie just walked past them, still on his lead, and when I let him off a few yards further on he made no attempt to go back to them. As I said he will start to chase when he spots movement but even then he comes back as soon as he's called. He is a good boy around wild life.

Evening.

Good boy Archie

Work is horrendous at the moment - not helping when I feel pretty sh*te out of work. Have just been in tears on the phone to my boss  I know I'm just having a wobble so will pull myself together next week.

Timmy other bloods came back and the results were okay, nothing obvious to worry about. She's still worried about his spleen and the lesions/tumours, so he's going in AGAIN on Monday for another scan. Won't be able to tell if they are malignant with a scan but she'll be able to tell if there has been any increase in size. She could take his spleen out but it's a big operation when we don't know that there isn't actually anything wrong with it, so just playing it by ear at the moment. He's fine in himself still and has just gobbled down his tea and is now demanding cuddles

Hope Timmy is ok :flowers:

I think there is something about this time of the year that just takes it out of people. I've felt really tired, burnt out and fed up this last couple of weeks. I've not had my January holiday this year, instead been working 6 days a week  can't wait for my birthday trip to Bacardi island.

Ted's finally been taken off the fish :partytime: I took him to the vet last week for a check on his eye and his poorly tummy, the vet asked what he was being fed, she told me to take him off the fish and feed him just the dried food. He had the last meal of fish on Thursday. He has had firm poos since Saturday :) He's loads brighter and really happy again. I spoke to dad today about him and he said he had really noticed an improvement.

Blue is a bit better - he had the vet on Monday, she wasn't totally happy with him, so they are coming back tomorrow with my farrier to do x rays and find out what's going on.

I love clean bedding - changed mine yesterday :)

Remember the bones that were found at my family property? Real human but medical skeleton so no murder hunt or archaeological dig required. We reckon the so called "builder" who rented part of the property (and trashed it and basically used the place as a dump) buried it alongside other waste that should have gone to a specialist waste disposal facility. We know he did some work for a local retired doctor and we think he probably charged the doc the appropriate rate for disposal of the skeleton but pocketed the dosh and just buried the bones in our old nursery garden.

Yantan, the deer around here are fed in the winter- to keep them around so they can shoot them later.

Because of that if you stop the car they stand and stare to see if you are going to put out food. Then they start coming towards the car in hope.

We have lots of deer around here. There is always one lookout watching while the rest are feeding and when on the move there is one scout away ahead of the rest checking out the route. The herd take their lead from that leader.

When we see one deer we always look for the rest. They are usually on the other side of the road hidden in the ditch or behind a wall and leap out in front of you. Or the scout decides to go back to join the rest of the herd. Neither option very good for the motorist.

I met a woman who told me they had written off three cars by colliding with a deer. I hate to think what her car insurance costs.

Hope sick pets continue to improve. I am glad Ted's diet has been sorted- fingers crossed they stick with it.

For those feeling down and fed up

the third Monday in January is dubbed "Blue Monday" because it is said to be the most depressing day in the year. Understandably the high of Christmas is over, our waists are a little wider, our New Year's resolutions are already out of the window, and our bank balance is much-depleted.
