Morning :)

The bistro in Monton was really nice Alex - I'd recommend it :) I never realised how nice it was round there.

Hope you get your car sorted soon Sam - must be a bit of a nightmare without it - are you having to go everywhere in the tuk tuk?

Hope they sort your wetroom out Jazz :)

How are you feeling today Griff? :GroupHug:

Last day in work today for 11 days :) Am just hoping the trams are running smoothly on the way home - I have a tight schedule when I get home tonight  Got to finish my packing, persuade Walter and Jessie that going into their cat carrier is a good idea, pick mum up, drop the monsters off at the cattery and then head to the airport hotel.

the car it turned out became the least of my problems today

the tuk tuk broke down this morning so I drove the car with its upside steering ( a bit odd but you get used to it ) to do my dog survey where we count the numbers of sterilised and unsterilised dogs using a phone app to plan future works and monitor how well we were doing in different zones

during the surveys an owner invited me into his house to see his Dalmatian which was chained up in a kennel , this is a very common welfare problem especially with "pedigree" dogs and we give advice about why its dangerous to dogs and people and have bilingual leaflets so I went to see.

I was at least 6 foot away and not even looking at the dog when it burst out of the kennel and launched itself at my head ripping my ear in 2 and giving me a black eye , I had a UK vet with me who was totally horrified and said she has never seen any thing like it the aggression it displayed with no warning at all or the sheer force of the attack , the owners had not had the dog rabies vaccinated either and the ear is a major bite risk for rabies but luckily I have all my pre exposure vaccinations in place

I have spent the best part of the day in hospital and had to go into surgery this evening to have my ear repaired by a specialist the hospital had to bring up from Colombo

There is no law that stops the owner continuing to keep his dog in that condition and no authority that we can report it too , Mark and some other team members will be visiting the owner to try and scare him him making changes but there is actually nothing we can do in real terms to help the dog or protect other people from being attacked

I am feeling very very very lucky it was just my ear , a few inches more and it would have had my eye out

Ruddy hell Sam, glad you're okay! :GroupHug: Could you threaten to sue him unless he gives the dog up? Poor dog, I hope something can be done to help him

Those dogs must be very clever using a phone app

well, its a good job the men came this week, not last. when they looked at the water tank in the loft, the water was to the top. he said another half hour, the ceiling would have been in and I would have lost the bungalow

and I have no hot water or heating

Omg Sam, how absolutely terrifying! I know it could have been worse, but it sounds bad enough, you must have been in shock! Do they not have laws against dangerous dogs out there? Sadly the dog would lose its life, but better that than someone else being hurt or possibly even killed, if it was a child. It can't be having a very happy life anyway, poor beast.

Jazz, have you thought of writing a book? I'm sure you'd get a following, especially if you could find someone to illustrate it with drawings!

As my scare was only a scare, we're now not sure what to do regarding getting another dog. This time of year isn't really the best..what with fireworks and xmas coming up, but then we have our cruise in May and I wouldn't want to put a fairly new dog in kennels. Wait until after that, I suppose, and just hope that the perfect dog doesn't pop up at the imperfect time!

Ha,ha I also thought clever dogs in Sri Lanka :smile_anim:

Take care of yourself Sam. that must have been very frightening. Having had 3 dalmatians I know how high they can jump- and with force.

Jazz, will things ever settle down for you? If it was made into a film nobody would beleive it was true.

Suzeanna, we got Cleo in August and put her in kennels at Christmas with no problems. She had been in a foster home for 6 months before she came to us.

You will know when the right dog finds you.

Hope your headache has gone, griff.

Bloody hell Sam! I hope you get better soon and are not suffering from any residual shock. The poor dog, it must be bloody miserable living like that - enough to attack you without warning. I think I'd rather see a dog pts than having to endure that life. I hope Mark and the others manage to do something.

Bloody hell Sam what a shock that must have been - hope you aren't in too much pain ((hugs))

Suzeanna 2 weeks after we adopted Nog my father took a turn for the worse and died and Nog ended up back in kennels for a few days after barely 3 weeks with us, it wasn't ideal but he was fine and just delighted to be back home with us afterwards. To be honest if you are going to be home over Christmas to help a new dog settle in then the cruise in May shouldn't be an issue if he/she needs to go to kennels for a couple of weeks.
