January's Jolly Jawings

We travelled to Inverness yesterday ( 100 miles away) for a hospital appointment.

When we left at 8am it was -8 C. On the way the temperature varied between -2C and -9C.

We stopped to let the dogs have a run on the beach and the sand was frozen solid.

It was a nice sunny day but coming home at 5pm the temperature was a low as -10C at one point. At home it was -8C.

Today is bright but cold , although it is balmy 0 C.

Suzeanna, put it out of your mind, you will deal with whatever comes...you are a tough lady and you can fight anything life throws at you. Sometimes scars get inflamed, i have had a biopsy taken off my arm, it all healed fine but last night it was sore, i looked and the scar is red and has some blisters on it? i also get a very red and hot knee where my scar from surgery is, could you go to your gp and ask advice before you go to the hospital?

Merledogs, that situation has disaster written all over it! poor poor dogs

Likewise your family members dog Yantan, lets hope if they did get the pup they are managing o.k

Jazz....... omg, a rescue have rehomed a dog the complete opposite of what your friend requested? i hope the situation turns out ok

We took both dogs to training together last night, they both did really well, there are only 2 other dogs left out of our original class and other people didn't really want the dogs to say hello, that is the main reason i go so the dogs get socialised well, we very rarely see other dogs here now, i guess it is because it is winter

My surgery scar on my shoulder often feels hot to the touch. I wonder if that is a natural occurrence with at least 3 of us feeling that?

It's so damned cold here. I have a lovely fleecy hoody on over my blouse but still had to put the heating on. A couple of hours later I had to dial the temperature up from 20 degrees to 22 and yet my hands are still like ice blocks. Where's the bloody hot flushes when you need them?

Hi Loo, nice to see you here again.

Suzeanna, my mum had a whole series of breast abscesses when she had stopped feeding my sister, as i remember sister would have been 3 or 4 at the time.

Sister is here with me now for a couple of days, arranging funeral.

Moaning :tired:

It's been a very frosty night. However I slept most of the night on top of my duvet thanks to the bloody menopause!

I can't wait to start mine. Anything has to be better than the dreadful periods I've had since my 13th birthday. Hope I don't live to regret those words! Has the menopause been bad for you? My periods seem to be very spaced out at the moment so hopefully it won't be too long now. I used to have periods every two to three weeks sometimes and suffer from PMDD so my PMS started a couple of weeks before my period, which meant I had very little time during the cycle where I felt 'normal' ish and was constantly on the edge of either blowing up or blubbing (Chasteberry helped a lot once I discovered it). They are now happening every couple of months or so (last one was early December I think) but I feel grumpy all the time and have trouble concentrating, sort of like a very low level PMS. I'm thinking that maybe I'm perimenopausal?

My poor car was as frozen on the inside of the windows as outside! Not so good having to double scrap!

Mine too

I've got a date for my follow up mammogram, 30th January. 99% of me thinks all will be fine, the other percent is wibbling already! I'm slightly concerned about the scar area on my boob, it feels very warm, although not painful. Don't see why there should be infection after all this time, but knowing my luck, there is.

Fingers, toes and everything else crossed for you :flowers:

Ruddy hell, thankfully not that cold here!

You can't beat a bit of socialisation can you? The dogs enjoy it so much too. We are lucky that there are plenty of dogs where we walk so the dogs get to meet lots of new friends and play with old ones.

RMF 1 : Forgot to say that last Friday when I was driving into work I saw a man hitting his staffie with a lead, so I slowed down and bellowed at him to stop. I slowed the car down to do so but couldn't stop as there were cars behind me and nowhere to pull over. By the time I'd parked my car and come back he'd gone, but I know he saw me because he looked shocked when I yelled. I feel so desperately helpless in those sort of situations :(

RMF 2 : My car is going in for repair on Monday to sort the door out from when I drove it into a metal post. It's knackered the passenger side front door, which is buckled to the extent that it's letting in water at the top. I had a bit of a set to with Enterprise who refused to deliver the replacement car to my house. They had been instructed by the repair garage as they didn't have a courtesy car available. I had to ring the insurance company up, who then rang the garage, who then rang Enterprise and told them to deliver the car. Turns out the reason they wanted me to come in to collect the car was so that they could try and sell me an upgrade. Cheeky feckers

Good luck with the menopause. Mine was horrendous. I went through it at 44 - just stopped having periods altogether after about two years of having them every two weeks. I am now 70 and could still tell you when I would be having a period as I still get PMS!! Not always, just some months. I also get the munchies on a couple of days which was also an indicator that I was due on.

Good on you for shouting at the man who was hitting his staffie. I did the same when I was about 12 and got told to 'go away' so I did and walked the few yards to where I knew the RSPCA inspector lived and let him deal with it. Luckily he was home at the time and I saw his van at the door. Doubt the guy would do it again or swear at anyone the way he swore at me.

I tried the mini pill jazz but unfortunately I am hypersensitive to progesterone so any minute amount affects my mood badly. I had a mirena coil fitted and had to take it out as that had a negative effect as well. For anyone who hasn't tried agnus castus (chasteberry) for the mood swings/depression associated with periods, I can highly recommend it. I ran out a couple of months ago and the stuff I ordered didn't arrive, which may be why my mood has been very low. I've taken delivery of a new lot today so no doubt will improve soon.

Has the menopause been bad for you?

So far not too bad although I have been going through it for about the last 5 years. It was very stop and start at the beginning. I'd miss a couple of periods and be lulled into a false sense of security and then be caught out with a period from hell.

I hardly ever suffered from PMS so I can't comment on how the menopause affected that.

I used to have such a good memory and, for me, one of the worst things is how bad it's become due, my doctor says, to the menopause. I don't just mean that I've started forgetting the odd thing, I actually dry up mid sentence because I can't remember the word I want. That is very embarrassing at times and I am sure I look a real fool.

At first the hot flushes were infrequent and I would go months without any but over the last 12 months they have become a daily occurrence, starting usually in the evening. I am hoping that I am now in the latter stages and that I will be over it and out the other side soon.

I don't take anything as I was on HRT in my late 30's which was prescribed for my migraine and I didn't get along with it. The nurse I see for my diabetic reviews has told me to go and see my GP about the hot flushes as she assures me that they can give me something to help. However I already take a lot of medications and I'd kinda like not to have to take anymore if I can help it. I'm currently looking into herbal remedies but I have liver trouble and have to pass everything past the doctor first in case it has an adverse affect.

And good for you Alex for shouting at that idiot owner. I've done the same myself and on a couple of occasions been able to point a frustrated owner towards training classes. One of the worst was a young lad in his early twenties who told me he was smacking his dog because that's what he'd seen his parents do. You'd think a 20 something would have got on the internet and educated himself about modern training methods!
