Arrg this insurance malarky is doing my head in, have now had quotes from them all some wont cover him due to age, some will only offer reduced cover (petplan) so it boils down to either m&s or more than - trying to chose between 7k per condition per year which has a £70 per condition & 20% excess or 12k annual cover for lifetime with a £75 annual (not per condition) excess now BUT will rise to £150 excess in July when Baddie reaches age 9 and we'd opt for no voluntary excess so nothing on top of the £150.

m&s is £43 a month more than is £37 per month. So presumably with the morethan one any treatment under £150 we'd pay for ourselves but as we wouldn't be claiming for it as its under the excess then they wouldn't count it against the excess would they? So effectively we'd get stung for it again if we needed to claim for anything over that in the same year - is that right? Whereas with m&s we'd have to pay out £70 + 20% for every new condition hhmmmm soooo if the claim was for £160 with more than we'd get back £10 but have no more excess over the rest of the year but with m&s we'd get back £58 and have to pay the £70 plus 20% each new condition in the year. What to dooooooooo???

Hhmmm think its going to be M&S just a wee bit concerned how much it went up to with Nog though granted we'd had over 12k back from them lol

I know that when Ted has his tummy troubles, we paid about £120 for x rays etc (but didn't bother claiming on the insurance for them) then when his tummy went really bad and he had to have lots of investigations and blood tests with my specialist vet friend in Nantwich, they did it as a continuation claim, so they got the details from our usual vet, then added that to the claim form that they sent to Tesco. In the end, we got a cheque back for about £80 from Tesco, as that was the difference between what we had paid various vets and the excess. So if Baddie had a problem that you didn't claim for, but you claimed later in the year for, you would get the money you have already paid back. Also if you claimed for something, and then it flared up later in the year, you wouldn't have to pay another excess as it would be on the same claim as the initial one even if the original claim is settled (if that makes sense). When Charlie had his initial vestibular attack, that was £500. Then when it flared up about 6 months later, we just filled in another form and sent it to Tesco, and the full amount of the second vet bill was covered as we had already paid the excess.

thanks gooster, my local shop shuts at 1pm on a sunday and don't fancy risking the muddy field in the dark to the other shop Lol, i will be good and wait until i can get the ingredients on tuesday... my mum will love them

Snow i agree with Gooster if your excess is 150 and you have treatment for say upset tum and it costs £75 and later in the same policy and you pay £90 you will lose your £150 but get back £15 and if it happens again with petplan in the same policy year i don't lose anything on delaney as no % applies. Are you sure Baddie is 8??? he could be seven couldn't he? as they age them on their teeth don't they so it isn't really that accurate

does anyone remember when their dogs lost their canine teeth as pups? i have just read online their permanent ones are normally in by 5 months..... if thats the case it is a permanent tooth dakota has lost..... ohhhh bugger

Insurance companies want to make profits ( which is what they are all about ) , I have friends who are Nurses in the UK who say that more and more patients are claiming now due to advances in treatments and drugs and there is a huge rise in referrals and those guys are not cheap at all ! so I guess all that impacts on premiums because now many owners will be claiming to a policies full cover where as 5-10 years ago that was an exception

I think the best way to look at it is to this consider do you need a policy that pays a vet direct or can you afford to pay and claim back , and then look at the excess and total treatments covered per year and lifetime.

I think for everyone the answer of who to choose is likely to be different based on all the individual factors and personal cash flows

If the vet includes it on the claim form as the same condition then only one excess will apply. If payment is per condition then it won't matter if a second or later claim for the same condition is made in a following year you will only pay one excess.

With lifetime cover and an annual excess, if the claim spans two policy years then you will have two excess to pay- one for each year.

So a condition that covers the last month of one policy year and the first month of the next year

Morethan - one excess

M&S one excess for each year.

One thing to check is how long you have to claim. Some policies state you must claim within a time limit- 60 days. Petplan stipulate you can claim up to a year.

As I said it is a nightmare

I have a poorly Beau :( He's not touched his food. He's been a bit fussy recently over what he'll eat but he doesn't want anything at all tonight and is standing and panting unless I call him over to me and then he cuddles up and relaxes a bit.

Poor Beau. Has he maybe got a sore tum?
