DEANO

**UPDATED: OCTOBER 2013**

Location: Kennels in Suffolk, UK. Deano would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family.

Key Points: Beautiful dog, gentle, friendly, social, dog savvy, playful, opening up more, affectionate, loves people, loves walks, good in car, not yet in a home.

Dear Deano is a sweet lurcher boy who has really been through the ringer. He was found straying on the streets in very, very poor condition, and for a while it wasn’t known whether he’d pull through. But pull through he certainly has! Deano is still underweight, but is vastly improved from the skeleton he was initially. His coat is starting to get a bit of a shine, and there is a light in his eyes. As such he is now ready to start searching for his forever home.

Though Deano has some greying around his face, we don’t think he is older than 3 years, perhaps this early silvering is due to the stresses he has endured. He is about 26” to the shoulder, and has a beautiful fawn grizzle coat. Deano also huge soulful, expressive eyes that really know how to melt one’s heart into a puddle of goo.

~ Personality ~

Generally:Beautiful character, gentle and affectionate, loving, playful, goofy, trainable, attentive, just wonderful.

Despite the horrible history Deano has, he doesn’t hold any grudges and loves people to bits. He is very affectionate and friendly, happy to make new friends. With some tasty treats at hand, you have 100% Deano, and he is very attentive. He is polite and mannerly, though opening up more and more all the time. We don’t feel we’ve yet tapped into just how wonderful this dog is. As such he has oodles of potential, and will be an amazing family member for whomever gives him sofa space.

Deano is now starting to play and enjoy life, and is 100% ready for adoption. We very much hope Deano can get out of kennels in the near future, as he has spent far too long surrounded by concrete. This boy deserves home comforts like no other, please contact us if you think you can give him what he really needs.

~ In the Home ~

Generally:Not yet in a home, clean in his kennel.

Deano has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Deano is right now choosing to be clean in his kennel at night, so we don’t expect it will take him very long to become housetrained.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally:Very social, dog savvy, enjoys canine company, not cat tested.

Deano is very good with other dogs, and is quite the socialite. He is comfortable and content in canine company, and is not reactive if another dog grumps at him. He simply walks away and gets on with things. Deano would be a beautiful, clam companion for a resident pooch, and could also slot nicely into an existing pack. In addition, however, Deano loves people enough that he may be very happy as an only dog too, provided he gets weekly play sessions with some doggie friends.

~ Out and About ~

Generally:Loves his walks, travels well in car, pulls initially, social and friendly, suitable to be let offlead with training.

Deano is not overly active. He loves his walks but loves napping as well! He also loves being warm and cosy, which is understandable considering his past. Please consider giving this beautiful dog some space on your sofa, he wants nothing more from life than to curl up with his human in the evening, infront of the fire.

Deano can pull on the lead initially, but this stops once the initial excitement of being out of kennels dies down. We don’t think this pulling will continue to be an issue once he’s in a home and getting lots of people-time each day. Deano will be suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads and livestock after some recall work has been done with his new owners.

~ Where Am I? ~

Deano is currently in kennels in Suffolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Deano is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Deano, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Deano, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the forms, as well as further information on our homing & fostering procedures, on either the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html .

Thank you.
