Msn Problems

My son has managed to acquire a virus (it is only on one sons msn, not in mine or my other son) which he is passing to all his friends via msn. I have tried to unstall the windows live messenger to hopefully reinstall it minus the virus - problem being I cant seem to remove it  I have tried through the add and remove section in my control panel but it doesnt seem to be going.

Can anyone offer any advice please

Thanks

get the name of the virus, then google it, then you should find some answers.

in the meantime, what your son should be doing is changing his user name to something like:

"i have a virus, dont click on me", or "dont click on any links from me", whichever form the virus takes.

that saves all his friends getting the virus

thanx for the replies, we dont know the name of the virus.

An unknown person started a conversation with him on msn one day saying alot of very rude and pornographic things (the pc is in the living room so I was aware of this at the time it happened) to him. We blocked the unknown person, and there is now nothing to be seen on his msn that is untoward. Now whenever he opens a conversation with one of his friends they are bombarded with very extreme pornographic pop ups.

I have AVG anti virus on my pc and it is scanned daily - nothing has been picked up.

Have you updated your AVG recently? Could be worth a try.

Have you tried adware and spybot, free downloads? They have managed to locate viruses before for me, enough to google them to find out how to get rid of them. :GroupHug:

the avg is uptodate, it was done the other day. Have done adaware and spybot and nothing  would it be anything to do with tracking cookies?? as my scheduled scan is running now and there are a hell of alot of tracking cookies, I did delete all of them last week though (or so I thought)

he has changed his password but no one will speak to him just in case they get the virus
