Diarrhoea Remedy Anyone?

Hi - is there any news?

I just wanted to say, if it were my puppy and the diarhea had not resolved within 2 weeks I would have no hesitation in seeking veterinary advice. Worm damage would be a consideration - there have been all sorts of bugs about this winter causing diarhea, even though she may seem well in herself. By the time you have spent money on all the holistic and other homecure remedies, you might just as well have visited the vet and got a proper veterinary diagnosis or be on the way to one. This poor little might has had diarhea for 4 weeks now? I wouldn't like to have had diarhea for that long ....

Please think about seeing the vet - it is very difficult to diagnose this type of thing on an internet forum where no-one is able to see your puppy - there is a million and one things that could be causing it and only a vet will be able to diagnose it after doing tests!

I'm sorry if this offends, but this is a young dog who will not have the same immune system as an adult and it concerns me as to why she has the runs after all this time, despite efforts by the poster to resolve - clearly nothing has worked so far ....

It could be worth considering if there is nothing physically wrong with her (like worm damage or something), she could have a food sensitivity :) Eddie was on Burns chicken and rice, and had an awfully squiffy tummy. I've swapped him over to the fish and rice variety, and he actually has had a few really firm poos now :)

I think this may be an option. As the vet has already said, there is nothing physically wrong with her. She has suggested maybe an alternative flavour of the Burns like you said.

I'm going back next week to give the vet an update on things.

As posted in my post yesterday, I said I would have to go BACK to the vets again. I see you have posted again today retiterating your comments about lack of veterinary attention. I just wish you had read my post properly.

Do you think I would have a young puppy with diarohea at home receiving no form of veterinary attention. Yes, your post does offend, as I have stated that she has been seen previously by a vet and she is fully aware of her stool problem.

I am totally aware of hidden illnesses that present symptoms of diaarohea, ie problems with the pancreas etc, that is why she saw the vet.

With regard to her 'training', she is attending a puppy class once a week, mainly for socialisation reasons. The class is well known and respected and the trainers are fully qualified.

Most people on here know me, but you obviously don't. SDS stands for Snowdonia Dog Sanctuary. Myself and my husband ran a dog rescue in Wales for 4 years or so. I have seen many dogs come through our doors with a variety of illnesses etc and I know what the consequences of lack of veterinary attention can cause to a dog. We were left to pick up the pieces from other people's total stupidity regarding their dog's health. All the rescues that contribute to this forum will know exactly where I am coming from.

Hi SDS,

I had the same problem when my girl was a pup, tried different puppy foods but the outgoings (if you know what I mean) were the same - liquid.

Our others dogs are on BARF, but chose to feed pup a proper puppy food cause I thought it was best. Well after 2 weeks of no change I put her on the natural diet, the same as our older dogs. Thank god, within a day she had perfect stools.

Obviously this would only apply to you if you are happy with raw feeding, but I thought I'd share my experience with you anyway :) .

Somebody else mentioned this to me. I think I will run it by the vet as I am seriously considering this change of diet.

Thanks for your comments.

Oops  Sorry Jo, no I don't know who you are and just responded to what I read ..... I too work in rescue and was looking at it from an experience point of view but apologies .... I stand corrected .....

Moving on .... I would recommend Naturezyme available from http://www.naturediet.co.uk and stick with the Burns - allow at least 4+ weeks to see a change but the Naturezyme should make a difference over days.

Sandra :flowers:
