  1. Have been back a week so thought would do a little writeup on my week with Dogstar. Sam & Mark unfortunately trapped in the UK at the time but we were left in the very capable hands of Mo. Big respect to all three of them on what they do after an emotional week I was exhausted and ready for my second week of relaxation. We arrived Sunday afternoon and were introduced to the terrible twosome - Shane & Bruce Found on the side of the road in Pinnewala and now being cared for my Dogstar. Both suffering with a fungal infection. Which meant we had to give them a bath (which they objected to loudly) and put cream on Shane who had the worst case. Not long after Errol came to introduce himself - Dogstar saved Errol - the video of his story can be found here -http://youtu.be/Im64buIXbb4. As you can see he is now a much happier and healthy boy Our first official day we took the pups to the vets, bathed them and then went out to worm some of the temple dogs. We entered the grounds with Mo's soft mumblings of 'Dont let there be any puppies please!!' We had been there two minutes and we heard an outraged squawk and our tuktuk driver holding a ball of fur. Meet Carys - she came home with us We also befriended a mumma dog who turned up in the local area. Most likely dumped due to getting pregnant. We had been told her pups had now all be rehomed. We named her Cariad which means Darling in welsh. She was brought in later in the week and sterilised. The next day the clinic began and we met the wonderful TAPA team - http://www.tsunami-animal.org/team.htm We went out with them in the morning to round up some street dogs for sterilisation and vaccination. Dogstar also provide this service for owned pets as well and have an appointment system run by the wonderful Sampath. Dogstar do not charge anyone but are grateful to receive donations. The second day we met Paddy. Paddy's Mum is a street dog who a local man was feeding. She had two pups sadly the day before Paddy's brother had been killed on the road. Paddy was unused to human touch and to give him the best chance in life and being a pretty boy would hopefully find a new home quick, he came to live with us to! Dogstar is based near Kegalle and mainly works in the local area. It does however have a few outreach programmes and we went along to see one of them a 45min tuktuk journey away. Minnie & Kanu both suffer really badly with mange. Minnie is an old girl and has other ailements going on but she loves her food and is very happy with her tail wagging like crazy when we got there. Dogstar is treating both dogs with advocat in the hope of getting their skin under control. We also did a run to the university to deliver some donated horse items for an abandoned horse who had been brought there. The photos are too upsetting to post and the poor lad died not long after but he was comfortable for his remaining hours with a fly mask and coat and more cared for than he had been for a long time. He was happily munching carrots when we left. We were also able to go out with Dr P on her vet round on the Wednesday. This would involve checkups on rehomed dogs as well as vaccinating temple and community dogs. Photo shows Dr P & Sampath vaccinating my sponsor dog Waggy During out time in Sri Lanka Dogstar hit a wonderful target of 1000 sterilisations for this year We were thrilled to be part of this even if it was in a teeny way. After we left we kept in touch and the good news is both Carys & Paddy have found new homes and hopefully Bruce & Shane have one lined up together If you would like to help Dogstar please feel free to visit my Just Giving page and donate - http://www.justgiving.com/streetdogs Thank you

I will do a thread in the dog section one evening this week to give you guys a glimpse of what we've been up to. Hopefully you will get to go back quickly now! Will definately come back out at some point. Still have the East & South to explore Back in work and really not feeling in. Sat for first two hours not really doing much. Glad you found some English people Jane Apart from Mo, Amanda and Sharon we didnt find any other UK people. Alot of Aussies and quite a number of Germans when we entered the more touristy area. He was in perfect health when we went to vets on Friday. He was really red and sore again last night. Bathed his underside again put a bit of sudocrem on it and couldnt settle as didnt want him chewing himself.

  9. I remembered about you saying about repatriation Sam so that Ive been making sure I check its ticked. Axa seems good for both single trip and annual multiple trip so just need to decide which. Im wavering more towards the annual multiple trip one as we've been looking at going to Copenhagen around Christmas.

  13. Both look fab Had a day out down the Bay yesterday with friends as they wanted to see the extreme sailing championships. Totally went over my head but one of them was very excited about the whole thing. All the fresh air meant I slept like a log last night. Lazy day today. Went out for food with parents, popped to Asda and visited brother and then took Louie for a walk when it was cool enough. Shame have to go to work tomorrow!
