  1. BECKY **UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Becky would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home. Key Points: Gentle, sweet once she knows you, shy of strangers. This absolutely stunning lady is Becky, a now ex-racing greyhound girl who will be 3 years old in January. Becky is a real head-turner – her blue brindle coat is in fabulous condition and her huge amber eyes are extremely striking. We hope that this gorgeous girl won’t be waiting long for her forever family. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Very sweet, shy at first, needs to gain confidence Becky is the ‘new girl on the block’ and has only just come to us. We are still getting to know each other. So far though she has been an absolute sweetheart. Becky can be a shy little thing when you first introduce yourself, but give her a bit of time to come to you and you have a loyal friend for life. She is still a young lady who is eager to learn and really wants to trust you, she just needs someone who will calmly and patiently help build her confidence over time. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet assessed. Would do best living with another dog(s). Dear Becky has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. Though everything will be a new experience for Becky, we don’t think it will take her long to find her comfy bed! She would do best in a home without young children and ideally with another dog or two to help her adjust to the changes. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with other dogs, not cat tested. Becky has been well behaved with the other greyhounds in the kennels. She feels more confident when surrounded by her greyhound friends, and would do best in a home with at least one other confident dog already present to show her the ropes and help her settle. She has not been tested with small dogs or cats but these will be carried out prior to adoption. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, travels well, nervous of new situations. Becky travels good in the car and walks well on the lead provided there's not something scary nearby. Like most greyhounds, she will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Due to her current nervousness, we would not recommend Becky be let offlead in an unsecure area until she has had recall training and been given a long enough time to fully bond with her owners. Eventually though, there is nothing stopping this gorgeous young lady from coming out of her shell and learning that the world is actually a really fun place. It will be so rewarding to be a part of that growth. ~ Where Am I? ~ Becky is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Becky is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Becky, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Becky, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. 2. CROSBY **UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Crosby would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Super friendly, loving, light hearted, centered, dog savvy, would benefit from living with another dog, loves kids. This delightful hound is Crosby. He is a 4 year old greyhound boy who has ran over 50 races for his previous owners and now very much deserves a loving family home to call his own. Crosby is a big black boy who will be oh so gorgeous once his coat gets a healthy shimmer to it. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Big goofball, sociable, loves people and dogs alike. Crosby is a character with a capital C!! A nicer, softer goofball you will not meet, Crosby is just delightful in every way. He has not let the harsh racing world dampen his spirits in the slightest, and though he is technically looking for a ‘retirement’ home, Crosby is not near ready to finish his adventure. This boy is just adorable and is guaranteed to make you smile. He finds the joy in the simplest things, loves exploring the world around him, absolutely ADORES his people and always has the biggest toothiest smile saved just for you. He loves getting cuddles and being allowed to snuggle with you on the sofa in the evening is his idea of heaven! Whomever gives this boy space on their sofa is going to be very lucky indeed. Crosby is great with children and is very gentle but fun loving. He is used to being played with and handled by kids, and could live happily in a busy family home with children over the age of 8. He enjoys a good romp around the garden and is now learning about the joy to had with squeaky balls. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Housetrained though may have accidents at first, would be happiest with canine company, can live with children aged 8+. Crosby is currently in kennels, but has lived in a foster home in Ireland for a short period. During this time he was settling well and mastering the art of outdoor toileting, though he did show signs of being anxious when left alone. He is fine when left with canine company and settles ok, however. His new owners will need to watch this issue so that it doesn’t progress, and also remind him about the house rules, but they will in turn be rewarded with one of the happiest dogs on the planet and a lifetime of guaranteed laughs! Crosby loooves his food and if you have tasty treats you are his new best friend. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very good with other dogs, not suitable to live with cats. Crosby is very good with other dogs and is polite in greeting them. He likes to have a good long sniff and is then content to either move on or settle for a snooze. He is very good when meeting small breeds of dog on lead, but may still need watching if the small dogs are offlead and running around. Crosby really loves other dogs and craves their company and socialisation. He would do very well in a home with another dog (or three!) to interact with and goof around with in the garden. Crosby is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Excellent on lead, sociable, enjoys seeing the world. Like most greyhounds, Crosby is a bit of a couch potato and does not need as much exercise as one might expect. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks like a gem on the lead and is also excellently behaved in the car. Crosby is the type of dog you could take practically anywhere with you, and he would dearly love to follow you anywhere. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. ~ Where Am I? ~ Crosby is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Crosby is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 3. JAKE **UPDATED: NOVEMBER 2012** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. This is Jake. He is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who, after running a total of 34 races for his previous owners, was deemed no good anymore and was going to be put to sleep if Kerry Greyhounds UK had not taken him in. Jake is now very much looking forward to a loving home to call his own. Jake is a lovely white boy with big fawn splodges. His coat is rather dull right now but it will soon pick up once he gets more tlc and regular brushing sessions. Jake has a gorgeous, delicately featured face and surprisingly big ears! ~ Personality ~ Jake is showing himself to be a really lovely lad, adoring attention from people but not in your face about demanding more. He is used to making the most of what he gets, and so is very low maintenance and extremely easy to keep happy. All he needs is a soft bed, good food and lots of cuddles and he’s in 7th heaven. Jake is a very laid back boy who takes things in his stride. ~ In the Home ~ Jake has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. ~ Other Animals ~ Jake has been very good with the other greyhounds and large breed dogs that he has met so far. He likes the company of other dogs and really loves going on walks with a few canine buddies. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, Jake is a lazy boy at heart and is more than happy to snooze away between his daily walks. He does not need a huge amount of exercise and will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. 5. **UPDATED: 30TH SEPTEMBER 2012** Meet the handsome Jake. He is a 5 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who has worked long and hard and is now very deserving of his retirement home. Jake is a tall boy with arguably the longest neck we’ve ever seen, even for a greyhound! He has been well looked after by his previous owner, and is in beautiful health and condition. ~ Personality ~ Jake is a loving, sociable boy who doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He has been handled kindly in the past, so has great manners and adores people, soaking up any fuss like a sponge. He is also a ‘leaner’ and loves to rest against you while you pet him. He is confident in himself and is in general a well-adjusted dog. He seems to have just recently discovered the joys of toys, and is great fun to watch clowning around with his squeaky ball. ~ In the Home ~ Jake has been in a foster home now for about 3 months, and is doing well. He slid into the home life as though he was always there, and is a very easy boy to have around the house. He has gotten the hang of housetraining and is clean through the night, asking to go out when needed. He is responsive to basic commands and has learned not to counter surf and to go out when told. He is a really lovely boy who has his loopy moments of bouncy play, but is foremost a big soft couch potato who likes to snooze and be comfortable. Jake is also very good when left, and we feel he would be suitable as a single dog and/or for people who work during the day. He is currently living as an only dog and is faultless in the home. When left alone he simply snoozes away and is not destructive. ~ Other Animals ~ Dear Jake is very good with other greyhounds and welcomes them into his foster home. He enjoys their company and is well behaved around them. Other breeds of dog, however, are another story and right now Jake is interested in chasing them. He would never have seen other breeds of dog during his racing career, and right now he is unsure what to do about them. Right now he will bark and pull on the lead when he sees them on walks. With lots of socialising and safe interactions, Jake can vastly improve with this issue, but it will take a bit of time for him to realise that dogs actually do come in all shapes and sizes. His fosterer is working on this issue on a daily basis, but this work is likely something that will need to be continued into his forever home. ~ Out and About ~ Jake walks well on the lead and will trot along to heel happily provided there are no small dogs about. If he sees anything small and moving, however, he can pull and vocaliss. Right now his fosterer is working with him to reduce this. Jake is very friendly with all people though and loves making new friends. Like most greyhounds, Jake does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He travels well in the car and quickly settles down for long journeys. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers. ~ Where Can I Live? ~ Because of his current issue with other dogs, Jake would be best in an experienced home with people who understand greyhounds and who have ideally had experience with this issue in the past. He will need regular, patient and repeated dog socialisation in order for him to gradually realise that all dogs are just like greyhounds, and so he will need an owner dedicated to furthering his progress. Apart from this one and only issue, Jake is the perfect gentleman and an excellent companion. He can be left alone, thus being suitable for people who work during the day, and would also live happily alongside other greyhounds. He has oodles of love to give to the right family who can overlook his dog problems and see what a beautiful, loving companion he can be. ~ Where Am I? ~ Jake is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Jake is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Jake, please visit our website’s [url=http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. 6. **UPDATED: 25TH OCTOBER 2012** Titch is a small, pretty greyhound girl who wasn’t keen on the racing life. She has a striking brindle coat that is really shiny now that she’s in a foster home and getting lots of TLC. She turned 3 years old last March and has sadly been looking for her forever home for over a year now! Please can you consider giving this wonderful lady a space on your sofa? ~ Personality ~ Dear Titch arrived into rescue as a very damaged, untrusting little girl. She had extremely low self-confidence, no trust in people and had come from a not-so-nice place. Thankfully the Titch we see today is unrecognisable from this scared little girl. She has been in her foster home for a full year now, and is more than ready to go to a suitable forever family. Titch has come on brilliantly, has learned to trust, love and even welcome people. She is a fantastic little girl with a whole world of potential. Titch is now a friendly, affectionate and very endearing young dog who loves to play with people, toys and other dogs. She is energetic and is definitely making up for her sad puppyhood with lots of fun and games. She welcomes people into her home with a wagging tail and a happy sniff. It is just young children that can make her uncertain, as she is not yet used to their sudden movements. She is a fun loving girl who is just cheeky enough to give you your daily laughs. ~ In the Home ~ The upside of waiting over a year for her forever family is that Titch is well and truly used to living in a home environment. She is settled and adjusted, and has good house manners. She sleeps soundly through the night, is completely housetrained, is not overly vocal, doesn’t counter surf, and is ok to be left with other dogs for company. She is calmer in the house than outside, and is very content to snooze for several hours after her walk. She really is no bother at all around the house. Since coming to her foster home, Titch has learned all about the joy of play. Now she absolutely loves to play and will tear around the garden with a squeaky toy. Her absolute favourite types of toys are squeaky plushies, though she will literally rip the stuffing out of them if given enough time. She also really enjoys kong balls that bounce in all different directions when thrown. Titch also has a cheeky streak and will steal the odd slipper and stash soft objects like balls of wool or cushions. She doesn’t chew or rip apart these items, but just likes to gather them all together for ‘safekeeping’! Very occasionally Titch shows a hint of her previous life, such as when a broom is picked up, or if roused suddenly from sleep. If shocked in this way, she can give a low growl, though this has never come to anything further. It is more a vocalisation of her insecurity, and not outright aggression. Loud noises such as thunder or fireworks also scare her, and she has growled and barked at the noise in the past, again without directing aggression at anyone. ~ Medical Issues ~ Titch has a sensitive tummy that is easily upset by stress. This is better now than it ever has been as she is settled and happy in herself, but it may flare up again when she moves to her new forever home. She is on a diet for sensitive tummies which is doing her the world of good, though she does need her anal glands expressed several times a year. ~ Other Animals ~ Titch is currently sharing her foster home with 3 other dogs, and has a different relationship with each of them. Her best friend is a whippet x collie and they love to play zoomies around the garden as well as sleep together. She also shares her foster home with 2 other greyhounds, one of whom she can get a bit bossy with if allowed to. She takes correction well, though, and doesn’t make it personal. When out on walks, Titch does best when introduced slowly and calmly to other dogs. Meeting other dogs is one of the now few areas where her old insecurities come back to the fore, and she can get defensive and guarded around some dogs if she feels they are becoming pushy with her. This defensiveness can materialise as barking and lead pulling. Once she knows and is familiar with another dog, she is generally fine and a lovely, social girl. She just needs that time to forget about her uneasiness and be more herself. Titch is also still gradually learning about other sizes of dogs, and she is more likely to react to a small dog than a large as she is not fully used to seeing them. This will need continued work to allow her to get over her uncertainty. In her current foster home she wouldn’t see small dogs very often, which is likely why this issue is still lingering on. Titch is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Titch, as typical of a dog with low confidence, is a lovely self-assured girl when walked with her pack, but can be nervous and defensive if walked alone. She always loves meeting new people, but unfamiliar dogs and sudden noises will scare and unnerve her if walked alone. She doesn’t like especially noisy traffic such as trucks, but will only pull on the lead if an unfamiliar dog comes very close, or a squirrel darts infront of her. She is generally fine in busy or built up areas. Walking her on a gentle leader gives great control on the few times that she does pull. Titch enjoys the car, though tends to stand looking out the window. She knows her name and comes back nicely when offlead in secure areas. She could be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads etc with her new owners after she’s had a bit of time to bond with them. ~ Where Can I Live? ~ Titch’s ideal home would be one without very young children and no small dogs as she is still unsure of them. She can live very happily with other medium to large sized dogs and would indeed benefit greatly from their presence, as shown by her current foster placement. Titch would coexist best with a confident, happy but not overly dominant dog. Titch has definitely come a very long way from the shell shocked little hound she was upon arrival. This needs to be noted as she is continuing to improve and grow on a daily basis. The dog she is now is incomparable to the dog she was upon arrival, and so the dog she will be another year from now will be just as different again. Whoever decides to open their heart to this beautiful girl will be rewarded with a beautiful, loyal, fun loving and affectionate greyhound who will give back a life time of pure love. ~ Where Am I? ~ Titch is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. Please note that adopters will need to travel to Norfolk to meet/adopt Titch. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Titch is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting little Titch, please visit our website’s [url=http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. 7. MADDY **UPDATED: OCTOBER 2012** Maddy is a gorgeous 2 year old ex-racing girl who, after just 3 races, was already deemed not good enough for the track and was in danger of being put to sleep. Luckily now she has a second chance at things and is going to be such a fabulous family dog. Maddy is a slender black girl who is 26” to the shoulder but very narrow. She can curl up very small on the sofa! She has a petite little face with ears that can be a bit wild at times, and her black coat is going to be just stunning since she gets a good healthy sheen to it. ~ Personality ~ Maddy is very sweet natured and easy going. She loves people and is always happy to see you. Now that she’s in a foster home, she’s soaking up all the fuss and attention, and it’s obvious that she feels very lucky to be surrounded by people 24/7. ~ In the Home ~ Maddy moved into a foster home just last week, and is settling very well. She is adjusting to the changes and is quickly learning the ‘house rules’. It won’t be long before this girl is super settled in the home, and we will update then with her progress… assuming she hasn’t been snapped up by then! ~ Other Animals ~ Maddy is very good with other dogs of all sizes and really does enjoy their company. When she first moved into her foster home, she learned a huge amount from her foster brother, another greyhound. In the past she has lived amiably with a terrier, and is generally polite at meeting all other dogs when out. She is not suitable to live with cats though. ~ Out and About ~ Maddy is very well behaved when out, and really just has a few areas that need tweaking before she’s a perfect model hound. She can get a bit overexcited if she sees dogs far in the distance and can't get to them quick enough, but this is just her impatience at wanting to say hi to everyone. It will get better with time when she improves a bit on her manners. In general, Maddy walks like a gem on the lead and travels perfectly in the car. She would be suitable to have offlead in safe areas, away from public roads, once she has settled in to her new home and gotten to know her new parents. ~ Where Am I? ~ Maddy is being fostered in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to her in Norfolk to meet/collect her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Maddy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 8. SELONIKA **UPDATED: OCTOBER 2012** Selonika is a lovely 6 year old ex-racing greyhound girl who finished up her track work a couple of years ago and has been kept on with her trainer ever since. After running a staggering 49 races she is definitely deserving of a sofa to call her own. Selonika has a gorgeous brindle coat with a very pretty little face, though is surprisingly tall for a girlie. She is in great condition and really is a beautiful lady. ~ Personality ~ Selonika is an utter sweetheart, so affectionate and grateful for everything given to her. She’s just so easy to have in your home. She loves people, adores affection, and really enjoys other dogs too. This girl has the potential to fit into a range of home types as she’s really a no-hassle kind of lady who just wants to enjoy life. She would be a super greyhound for a first time owner, but would also slot so easily into an existing pack of dogs. We hope she isn’t waiting too long for someone to give her a space on their sofa, she so deserves to settle into her forever home as soon as possible. ~ In the Home ~ Selonika is in a foster home at the moment where she is experiencing living in a home for the very first time in her 6 years. You wouldn’t guess that, however, as she has been housetrained from day one and is absolutely good as gold! Selonika loves the other dogs in her foster home, and is very happy to share her space and even her food with them. Selonika is still settling to the home life, but is doing so well. There really hasn’t been much adjustment time needed at all, all she needed was to find the sofa, figure out how to get on the sofa, and learn how to squish in between other dogs on the sofa! ~ Other Animals ~ Selonika is really brilliant with other dogs of all shapes and sizes. She is used to interacting freely with other dogs and so is very savvy in her communication skills. She knows how to play, though at age 6 she wouldn’t be up to the energy levels of a young puppy anymore. However, Selonika would be a truly fantastic companion for another lonely dog as she’s so easy going and steady in herself. Nothing much fazes this gorgeous girl. ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, Selonika is a lazy hound at heart and will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. She walks like a dream on the lead, never pulls, and is a true joy to bring on walks. ~ Where Am I? ~ Selonika is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Selonika is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She is not yet neutered, but this will be carried out prior to her going to her new home. We just want to give her a bit of time to relax before putting her under the stress of an operation. If you are interested in adopting Selonika, please visit our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html for information and instructions on our homing procedures. 9. TEDZER **UPDATED: 6TH APRIL 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Very very happy, loves life, friendly, playful, affectionate, good with dogs, home savvy, moderately active. Say hi to the Tedzer! He is a 3 year old greyhound boy who is looking for a loving family to call his own. Tedzer was originally bred to race, but never really got the point of all that racing business and managed to get himself banned from the track for goofing off! Still, Tedzer has never looked back, and has now come to Kerry Greyhounds UK to find his forever home. Tedzer is a striking black boy with a little white heart on his chest. At approx 26”, he is relatively small for a male greyhound and is very dainty in his features. His coat is now beautifully sleek and soft after some TLC and brushing sessions. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Super friendly, loving, playful, extremely cuddly, craves human contact, clever, interactive and engaging, bit cheeky!. Tedzer is a real clown of a dog and truly loves life. He always has a big grin on his face and always sees the bright side in things. Just being in his presence will brighten your mood, we promise! He can sometimes be a wee bit shy when he first meets new people, but give him just ten minutes and he is (quite literally!!) all over you. He is wonderfully playful and responsive to people, and this together with his love of food means he is extremely easy to train. This boy could very easily be the life of the party! Tedzer has been waiting for his forever home for 6 months now, and we can't quite believe he’s still with us. He is 100% delighted to dole out the love and we can't stress enough how amazing he is. Such a beautiful character. He is extremely affectionate and a real cuddly boy. He loves curling right up next to you and resting his head on your knee in the evenings. Tedzer definitely has a playful, cheeky streak too and loves to mess around and create a bit of harmless mischief. If you want a happy-go-lucky, supper cuddly hound who will love to love you while keeping you on your toes, Tedzer is your dog! ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Home savvy, housetrained, foodie, ok to be left with canine company, needs home with older kids and dogs for company. Tedzer has been in a foster home now for 5 months and is doing splendidly. He shares his foster home with 2 other dogs and loves them to bits. He is completely housetrained and ok to be left with the dogs for company for up to 4hrs. He’s a real goof and loves to play and zoom around, then promptly flop down on the grass for a snooze. Now that he’s discovered toys, he is hilarious to watch as he flings and pounces around the garden after them. Tedzer doesn’t countersurf but has a strange fetish for wool and knitting! He doesn’t destroy what he pinches, just carries it around and stores it on his bed for safekeeping. Though he loves kids, Tedzer would be best going to a home with kids older than 10 years as he can be a bit of a clumsy boy and may knock smaller kiddies flying by mistake. Tedzer is completely food obsessed and as such is very trainable. He will essentially turn inside-out for a tasty treat! He has learned to go to his bed when the humans are eating, and has great manners when he knows that gets him the reward in the end. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Generally very good with other dogs, still learning about smalls, playful. Tedzer sees the world around him as a great big circus. It is wonderful to see such joy when he knows its walkie time. He is very curious and keen to say hello to everyone, people, dogs, and even horses! He thinks its great fun to chase smaller critters though, and right now this can sometimes include small breeds of dog as he is still learning that dogs come in all sizes. When introduced slowly he is fine, however. Tedzer adores his foster siblings and is very happy to share his space with them. We feel he would be happiest with at least one other dog to share his forever home with as he can be fairly active and loves to play. He is excited but not bouncy in his greeting when meeting dogs for the first time, and loves to run around and play with dogs that understand his ‘tag’ game. Though playful and fun loving, Tedzer is still a greyhound and loves to lounge around and snooze. Initial introductions to small dogs must be taken carefully at first until Tedzer is more used to seeing them, as currently he is right on the line between knowing they are always dogs and thinking the odd one might be good fun to chase. Once he knows the small furry thing is definitely a dog, Tedzer is fine, and with time he will be fine with all dogs, he is just on the learning curve right now so needs a bit of care. He is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks well, inquisitive, good traveller, moderately active. Tedzer is an active, inquisitive fella who really wants to learn about the big wide world. He walks well on the lead and is a good traveller. He would be very happy in a fairly active home who would take him on nice long walks as well as give him some offlead time to play and frolic for the joy of it. Tedzer has great recall when he knows there’s yummy food on the menu! It is essential that he not be let offlead until a bond has formed and some recall work has been done with his new owners, but with a bit of time Tedzer is suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public transport and livestock. Tedzer walks well on the lead and travels good in the car. He doesn’t react when barked at by other dogs, and is unfazed by traffic. Tedzer will take every opportunity to say hi to everyone he meets along the way, he’s a super social boy. ~ Where Am I? ~ Tedzer is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Tedzer is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Tedzer, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. 10. SUE **UPDATED: 9th OCTOBER 2012** Dear Sue is a 3 year old greyhound girl who has never raced as she didn’t like racetracks. She has been kept by her owner/trainer for the last 3 years and is now getting her chance at finding a forever sofa to retire to. Sue is a petite little lassie, slender in build, and she can curl up even smaller on the sofa! Her lovely black coat is in decent condition but could do with a bit of ‘glossing up’, which should happen gradually as her kennel coat is shed out. ~ Personality ~ Sweet little Sue is a naturally shy girl, and is finding the transition from kennels to house a bit overwhelming right now. She is very friendly and even playful with those she knows, but strangers will frighten her, especially now as she’s been taken from everything familiar to her. When given a bit more time to settle, we look forward to seeing this girlie open up and let us see more of the beautiful personality waiting within. ~ In the Home ~ Sue has just moved into a foster home, where she is experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of a home for the very first time in her 3 years. Naturally, she is a bit overawed right now and we will update with her progress once she has had a bit more time to settle – she has only been in her foster home for a few days so far. Please don’t let this stop you from asking about this delightful little hound though, as given the right amount of time and patience she is going to blossom so beautifully. So far Sue has been clean in the house, and seems to be grasping the concept of housetraining very easily. ~ Other Animals ~ Sue is very well behaved with other dogs of all shapes and sizes. She is polite in meeting them, but can be a bit overwhelmed by a very boisterous, in-your-face kind of dog. So right now we feel she would do best in a home with one or two other calm but self-assured dogs present to show her the ropes. She is currently sharing her foster home with 2 other middle aged greyhounds, and is relying hugely on them right now to show her what’s ok in her new surroundings. In her previous home Sue was used to being around many greyhounds at once, so they definitely provide her a level of comfort and security. Sue has never raced as she didn’t have the desire to chase. As such, she might be cat friendly, and this will be tested once she has had a bit more time to settle and come out of herself. ~ Out and About ~ Sue is a low energy dog, as are most greyhounds. She will be more than happy with two 30min walks a day. She will be ok to be let offlead in a secure area once she has developed a bond with her new family. She walks very well on the lead and doesn’t pull – if she gets frightened she tends towards freezing rather than trying to run away. Right now Sue is very shy, and doesn’t like crowded places. She is nervous of noisy traffic and especially loud men, but we are hoping that with gradual, gentle exposure to these things, she will slowly come out of herself and learn to enjoy the world around her a bit more. ~ Where Am I? ~ Sue is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. Due to her degree of nervousness that means she may require more support and advice after her adoption, we would like to find her a home in and around the Norfolk/Suffolk area so that it’s close to our team. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Sue is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She will be neutered once she has settled a bit more into her foster home. If you are interested in adopting Sue, please visit our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html for information and instructions on our homing procedures. 11. LEO **UPDATED: OCTOBER 2012** The lovely Leo is a 6 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who just wants a soft, warm bed to retire to after a long stint in racing kennels. He is a very pretty black boy who will be so striking once his currently dull coat puts on some condition. ~ Personality ~ Leo is an incredibly sweet, gentle boy but when he first arrived into rescue it was clear that he was extremely depressed and unused to people. He has been in a foster home in Ireland for 3 months before coming to Kerry Greyhounds UK just last week, and in this time he has come on amazingly from the fragile, shell-shocked dog he was once upon a time. Leo is a very special hound who has touched a lot of people’s hearts. We would dearly love to see him settled and cosy in his new home in time for Christmas. He is a very sensitive, gentle dog who quietly craves human company and has all the love in the world to give to a family who will be patient and allow him to progress at his own pace. Above all else, Leo just wants to be ‘a good dog’. Even if frightened, he will still try his very hardest to listen to you and not pull on the lead. It seems that Leo has forgotten how to do a lot of doggie things, but he is slowly coming out of himself the longer he spends in a loving foster home. All he needs is time and love. ~ In the Home ~ Leo has been in a home environment for 3 months now so is familiar with all the sights and sounds of a house. He tries so very hard to be a good dog, and so doesn’t have any bad habits to speak of. He doesn’t countersurf, doesn’t chew, is ok to be left with other dogs for company, is fully housetrained and is quiet as a mouse through the night. Routine is vital for this boy, who can still become frightened of unfamiliar things. Once he gets settled in your home and adjusts to the new layout, we’re sure he’s going to be one of the easiest dogs in the world. All Leo wants to do is curl up with you and be loved. He is incredibly sweet and loving, but in such a quiet, soulful way. Once he realises what you want of him, Leo will try his very very hardest to fulfil it. He really does hit you right in the heartstrings! Leo is going to be a truly fantastic dog, friend and companion to whomever gives him a space on their sofa. ~ Other Animals ~ Leo is very good at meeting and passing other dogs, though he doesn’t seem to know how to interact with them much. If a dog tries to entice them to play, he sadly just stands still or moves away. There is no aggression in Leo at all, he simply doesn’t seem to understand how dogs should behave after the initial sniff hello. Its very possible he has never been around other dogs except when being walked with the other greyhounds at the racing kennels. Though Leo doesn’t interact much with other dogs, we feel he does actually rely quite heavily on them to show him what to do. As such we think he would be absolutely happiest in a home with another one or two dogs already present to show him the ropes, though very young or boisterous dogs might just frighten him. ~ Out and About ~ Leo won’t need much exercise, and will be more than happy with two 30min walks a day with perhaps a chance to stretch his legs and let off some steam in a secure area once or twice a week. He walks like a dream on the lead, even if frightened, and he is getting better at dealing with the big wide world every passing day. Initially Leo was terrified of everything beyond a simple field or laneway – traffic, people, prams, noises, it was all a very frightening new environment for him. He is much better now and has finally started to behave more like a dog when out, sniffing and looking around rather than walking in an unwavering straight line with no interest in anything around him. ~ Where Can I Live? ~ Leo would be happiest in a quieter home with one or two other middle aged, quiet dogs to keep him company and give him support, especially in the early days. Children or boisterous dogs would be far too much for this boy to deal with as he’s still relearning how to behave like a dog and not a racing machine. Leo is a truly special hound who has a lifetime of love and devotion to give to his forever family. We just hope he doesn’t have to wait too much longer to find them. ~ Where Am I? ~ Leo is currently being fostered in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Leo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 12. PRINGLE **UPDATED: 1st OCTOBER 2012** Pringle is a 10 year old (that’s right, 10!) greyhound girl who has spent all her life so far in kennels and really truly deserves a forever home to call her own now. She has a lovely white coat with big black splodges, and is in good health all things considered. ~ Personality ~ Though definitely and older girl in her twilight years, Pringle is still full of beans and does not at all act her age. She is very active, super friendly and loves being out exploring the world around her. Pringle has been handled kindly throughout her life, and it shows in her lovely bubbly personality. She adores people and will follow you anywhere if she knows you give out affection. We’re sure this girl is going to settle so well in to the home life, and can't wait to see her being adored and fussed by her forever family. ~ In the Home ~ Pringle has just gone into foster care this week, so we will update with her progress in the very near future. She is doing really well so far considering she’s never seen a house in all her 10 years, and it won’t be long before she’s accepted all the weird noises and sights e.g. the television, and has learned the joy of sleeping on a soft duvet. ~ Other Animals ~ Pringle is well behaved with other dogs and really enjoys their company. Despite her age she is definitely not beyond a wee game of chase with her other houndy friends. She is good with dogs of all shapes and sizes, though has not been tested with cats yet. ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, Pringle will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once a week. Pringle will be a very low maintenance girl once she’s settled in, and will likely be more than content to snooze away during the afternoon, especially once the cold winter days come in. ~ Medical Issues ~ Pringle is going to be checked out by a vet in a week or two once she’s settled in a bit. We will update if any medical issues appear after this date. ~ Where Am I? ~ Pringle is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to her foster home to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Pringle is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. Due to her age we are concerned about having her neutered, and so she may be adopted as an entire female. This means that she won’t be able to live with an intact male or interact with intact males when in season. This is something that can be discussed in more detail with us if you are interested in adopting her. 13. DARLEY **UPDATED: SEPTEMBER 2012** The very gorgeous Darley is a 2 year old greyhound boy who was bred to race but never took to that whole way of life. As such he ended up on death row in a pound before being picked up in the nick of time by Rescue Helpers Unite and then making his way to Kerry Greyhounds UK. Darley is indeed a darling boy. He is a lean, leggy boy who looks so very elegant, especially with his glossy black coat. He has a very soft, kind expression and we hope he isn’t waiting too long for his forever home. ~ Personality ~ Well in short, Darley is just lovely. He’s a very sweet tempered, gentle lad who really just wants to be loved and hugged all day long. He adores people, despite his rocky past, and really loves getting any attention he can from you. Having said that, he is definitely not pushy or in-your-face about asking for this affection, he is just VERY good at making ‘please love me’ faces! Darley has not yet been with us long and is still settling into temporary foster care. We hope to update with his progress very soon, but please don’t let that deter you from asking about this boy right now. He really is a super dog and will be a fab hound to have. ~ In the Home ~ Darley has just moved into a temporary foster home, so is still adjusting but doing very well. This boy would be an excellent choice for a fist time hound owner who may not yet know how greyhounds tick. He is very forgiving, social and loving. ~ Other Animals ~ Darley has been excellent with every dog he has met so far, regardless of size or shape. He really loves other dogs and would likely slot extremely well into an existing pack. Alternatively he might be a good companion hound for a timid or nervous dog, as he is quite placid and calm in himself. ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, Darley is a rather lazy potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. ~ Where Am I? ~ Darley is currently in foster in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Darley is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 14. KYLIE **UPDATED: 7th JULY 2013** Location: Foster home in Buckinghamshire, UK. Key Points: Super sweet, affectionate, well adjusted, good with other dogs, home savvy, good traveller. The sweet little Kylie is a 7 year old Irish greyhound lady who, after 32 races and even a litter of pups, is now finally ready to find her retirement sofa. She is a petite 25” black girl with the sweetest wee face that has a peppering of grey around the edges. Kylie has spent all her life so far in kennels and has raised her fair share of greyhound puppies, but is in good condition and health. After some extra daily TLC and brushing, her coat is wonderfully sleek and shiny. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Loving, calm, very affectionate, undemanding. Kylie is so incredibly sweet, a real sweet little sweetiepie! And have we said that she’s sweet?? She’s gorgeous in both looks and personality, and really just wants to be fawned over and doted on all day long. She loves to give and get affection and is a cuddle sponge. She really enjoys being around people, and would stay with you all day long if you gave out ear scratches. At the same time though, Kylie is not in your face or overly demanding about getting her quota of love. She is very much content with what she gets, and doesn’t ask for much at all. Kylie is very gentle and quite sensitive. She can be a wee bit shy in new situations, but doesn’t take long at all to get over it and enjoy the moment. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Housetrained, good with canine company, not-destructive, learning not to steal! Kylie has been in her foster home for 9 months now and is very content. She has the house routine down pat, is fully housetrained and is not destructive when left with just her doggie friends for company. She comes when called and despite her age, loves playing with toys. Her favourite toys are squeaky ones, and she is much improved in her sharing abilities now that she knows there are plenty of toys to go around. When she first entered foster care, she tried to hoard and defend her ‘bounty’, but has relaxed considerably over the past few months. It’s a delight to see her adjusting to the home life, and she is definitely ready for a forever home to call her own now. Kylie’s primary love in life is her tummy. She LOVES food and feeding time and is trying very hard to remember to be patient at meal times. She just loves her grub! She now knows not to steal off the kitchen counters, and even leaves the kitchen entirely on command. Bin bags left unattended outside are still fair game, but she is learning at a good steady pace. She is even refining her tastes of late, after taking a liking to the odd cup of tea! ~ Medical Issues ~ Kylie can get a slight limp on one of her front legs after a hard run or longer walk, and it is believed that this is due to an old injury. She does not need any medication for it other than perhaps a joint aid food supplement. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very good in general, care needed with smalls. Kylie gets on very well with other dogs and really loves their company. She shares her foster home with a well-adjusted pack of 4 sighthounds and slotted in very well. She will give a wee grumble if another dog steps on her while sleeping, but there isn’t any follow-through. She’s just an older lady who likes a bit of respect from her fellow canines. Kylie can live with other dogs and would adapt just fine as an only dog provided there is someone at home to give her company – she’s not overly keen on being left alone. Kylie is getting used to meeting other breeds of dog, as she has seen mostly greyhounds up to this point. She is now fine with meeting other breeds and sizes of dogs, but a bit of care is needed when introducing her to very small dogs initially. She is very polite in meeting them once she sees them to have dog behaviour, and we can help and advise new owners on how best to introduce Kylie to the smallies. Kylie is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks well, good traveller, polite with people/canines, will pull upon sight of a small furry. Kylie is a beautiful balance of couch potato and sprightly walker. Basically she loves a bit of exercise in the form of 1-2 daily walks and/or a wee offlead gamble, but also loves sleeping and snoozing throughout the day. She can on occasion have a slight limp on her front leg if she overdoes it when running, and is doing very well with two 30 min walks a day at a steady pace. She walks beautifully on the lead though can on occasion pull if she sees a cat or squirrel in the distance. Kylie also travels very well and settles down immediately. Kylie is a very low maintenance lady who asks for nothing beyond tasty food and daily cuddles. She would suit a relatively sedate household who will potter around with her on daily walks but not push her too much. ~ Where Am I? ~ Kylie is currently in a foster home in Buckinghamshire. She can be adopted to anywhere in the UK, provided we have a homechecker available, but please note you will need to travel to her foster home to meet/collect her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Kylie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed, and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Kylie, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. 15. SCHOONER **UPDATED: SEPTEMBER 2012** The fabulous Schooner is 1-2 year old lurcher lad who is looking for a family to call his own. He was taken out of death row in an Irish pound by a good Samaritan after being hit by a car, and was kept for several months so he could get back on his feet. With no luck in rehoming him in Ireland, Schooner will now come to Kerry Greyhounds UK with the hope of finding his forever home. Schooner is a beautiful medium-large sized lurcher who is now in fabulous condition. He has a lovely white and fawn patched coat, big goofy ears and a very cheeky grin! ~ Personality ~ Schooner has a really lovely personality and is a really fun dog to be around. He is confident, outgoing and so very friendly, loving to meet new people and explore new areas. Schooner is always a happy boy with a big grin, and it’s hard not to laugh along with him. He is a young, active boy and loves to play and run about before finally collapsing in the evening after his supper. This lad has fantastic potential for something fun and active like agility or flyball. He is energetic and very trainable, just needing that incentive to listen. Schooner is still a young dog who doesn’t have any huge issues, just needs some fine tuning to be that model citizen. He would be a really rewarding young dog to bring on and use for really anything you wanted. ~ In the Home ~ Schooner has just recently moved into a foster home, and we will update with his progress very soon. He is crate trained and will settle if left for short periods so we expect Schooner will grasp the concept of housetraining quite quickly once he has gotten over the initial stress of the change of scenery. Schooner really thrives on company and interaction, so we feel he would be best in a fairly busy home with another dog or two to play with and have as company. He would love to live with teenagers or children over the age of 8 who would play with him and teach him tricks. Schooner is very gentle at taking food and treats, and loves to learn new things. He also adores playing ball and likes to carry toys around. ~ Other Animals ~ Schooner is in general very good with other dogs and really really loves their company. His only fault to speak of is he can be a bit gung-ho in greeting other dogs, and will vocalise his excitement if he sees another dog when on lead and can't get to say hi. If allowed to meet he is fine, it’s just how he vents his frustration at not being able to meet every dog he sees. If given time and calmness, he quietens down, and this is definitely something that can improve with just repetition, patience and tasty treats. There is no malice in Schooner, he can just be a wee bit too over the top for a very small or timid dog, especially with the barking and occasional pulling towards the dog. Schooner really would be happiest in a home with at least one other dog to play with. His best kind of playmate is another young, confident lurchery type who knows how to ‘play the game’ and match Schooner’s speed. Schooner tends to get calmer the more dog he is around, so if given time to settle he could do very well in a pack of 3 or more dogs. He certainly would have enough playmates then! Schooner is not cat or small furry friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Schooner really loves to get out and explore the world around him. He travels well in the car and is used to being crated. He can pull on the lead when he sees a cat, or dogs running in the distance, but if allowed to meet he is a good and friendly lad. This pulling can be overcome with a halti headcollar and some tasty distractions; he just needs more repetition to get it down pat. Right now Schooner can be a bit shy of big noisy traffic such as tractors or buses, so work on this would be needed if he is to be walked in a built up area often, but it is definitely not something that can't be overcome with some repetition and patience. Schooner can be let off lead after he has been given sufficient time to bond to you. He has fairly good recall, though can get distracted in busier areas, so until his recall is strengthened he should only be let offlead in completely secure areas. He is a young dog who can be a bit of a flyaway goof and not think about things such as traffic or whether his overzealous introductions are actually welcomed by everyone! ~ Where Am I? ~ Schooner is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Schooner is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. 16. ROISIN **UPDATED: SEPTEMBER 2012** Roisin is a pretty greyhound girl who was born in August of last year. Sadly this girl found herself in the pound at just 4 months old because she was deemed no good for racing, but is now doing much better in a loving foster home. She is a petite black dog with intelligent eyes and is in great condition now. ~ Personality ~ Roisin is a delightful little character who truly loves the people who care for her. She is still a pup in many ways – curious, lively, bouncy, fun, playful, innocent and very, very sweet! She is a constant source of amusement for her foster parents, and they say it has been a joy to watch her come out of herself, learn to trust people, and start to explore the world around her. Roisin’s forever family will need to be willing to continue the work of her foster parents to help her to grow and mature into a happy, well-adjusted girlie. ~ In the Home ~ Roisin has been in her foster home for several months now, and is well adjusted to living in a home setting. She is housetrained, quiet through the night and doesn’t counter-surf. Roisin does still have the lingering effects of what was once severe separation anxiety, so she is best crated when left for periods of time. Having another doggie friend or two around her is also a huge help, but potential adopters need to be aware that her anxiety might increase again upon moving into her new home simply because of the upheaval. Setting a routine in place immediately will be a great asset to her, as she very much needs to know what to expect at what time. Kerry Greyhounds UK have a behaviourist on hand to assist Roisin’s adopters with this to help reduce any anxiety she might feel. Just give this girlie a chance to settle and you are sure to be rewarded with a truly smashing forever friend. ~ Other Animals ~ Roisin is in general good with other dogs. She is sharing her foster home with 4 other dogs and they have been instrumental in her road to recovery. Having said that, Roisin would do better in a home with just one other dog so that she can get more on-on-one attention, and this is the only reason why her foster parents haven’t become her forever parents! Ideally that dog needs to be a confident and well-adjusted pooch, to help Roisin feel more secure in herself and not get overly anxious. ~ Out and About ~ Roisin enjoys her walks and looks forward to them. She also loves her 5 minutes of ‘mad zoomies’ around the garden with a canine friend before flopping back on the sofa for a snooze. She is a little bit quirky and can have the habit of randomly sitting while on walks to simply look around her, or grabbing her owners lead to walk them instead! This habit is not ideal, however, and her foster parents are currently working with her to leave the lead alone. Having some tasty treats at hand definitely help! ~ Where Can I Live? ~ Roisin is still a very young girl with a lifetime of potential to grow, mature and settle down. She is still learning to fully trust people and gain confidence after her bad start. Roisin would do best in a dog-experienced home that is aware of issues such as separation anxiety and how to deal with them. In the right kind of home, Roisin will lose her rough edges and fully blossom into a fantastic family friend, and how rewarding would it be to have a part in her progress and growth? ~ Where Am I? ~ Roisin is currently in a foster home in Sheffield, UK, and will need to be homed within driving distance of Sheffield so that her current foster parents can provide any needed post-adoption support. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Roisin is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Roisin, please visit our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html for information and instructions on our homing procedures. 17. ELLIOTT **UPDATED: 17th SEPTEMBER 2012** Say hi to the very pretty Elliott. He is a 10-12 month old lurcher boy, possibly whippet x though he is a bit taller than your average whippet. Little Elliott was luckily taken out of death row in a UK pound and is now waiting for his forever family to come along and sweep him up. Elliott has a beautiful fawn coat with adorable liquid black eyes and a very intelligent expression. He is all elbows and knees at the moment but is going to be a very elegant hound once he matures. ~ Personality ~ Elliott is a really gorgeous little lad with a big, very lovable personality. He is cheeky, bouncy and affectionate with oodles of love to give to anyone who spares him some time. Elliott really really adores people and enjoys being around them. He must be feeling quite spoilt now that he’s in a foster home getting all the human attention he could ever wish for! Elliott is still very much a young puppy, and so is very playful and so funny to watch. He is curious about the world around him and his fosterers say it’s a huge joy to watch him explore and learn. This lad has his whole life ahead of him and has unlimited potential to be whatever his future parents want him to be. ~ In the Home ~ Elliott has only been in his foster home for 2 weeks now, but he has settled extremely well considering his not-so-nice start to life. He has clearly never been in a home before as everything is amazing to him, but despite that he has been very good and well behaved, with only one toilet accident in 2 weeks. He asks to go out by whining at the door, and will even go and find you to whine in your face if you don’t get the message! He really loves toys and is hilarious to watch during his daily mad 5 minutes of zoomies. Elliott is very playful and inquisitive, but doesn’t bark much considering his age. He is, however, super curious about everything in the house. Though not overly destructive, he likes picking up items to find out more about them, and so household items might ‘grow legs’ until he is past this phase. He is fine to be left for short periods with another dog for company, but would currently get distressed if left completely alone, as would the majority of puppies. This is an area that will need further work and training if he is to be left completely alone for any period of time. ~ Other Animals ~ Elliott is sharing his foster home with a female GSD x, and they generally get on well and play beautifully together. However, Elliott can be quite tense and dominant with other dogs, this perhaps being his only real issue. It’s possible Elliott had to compete with other dogs in his early days, as he guards his treats from other dogs and has not yet learned to share. He is completely fine if a human wants to take his food from him, but will give a good grumble if another dog comes too close for his own comfort. Elliott can also be dominant-tense when meeting other dogs on lead, perhaps linked to the fact that he’s still learning about the whole lead-walking concept. He has had wonderful moments of offlead play with previously unfamiliar dogs and is in general much more relaxed and comfortable in himself when offlead. His foster parents are working with him on this issue on a daily basis, but it is likely something that will need continued work and repetition with his new family too. Really what Elliott needs is to socialise with as many other dogs as possible so that he can get more experience in interacting with other dogs on a friendly, harmless basis while on a lead. He also needs to gain a bit more trust in his people so that he doesn’t feel uncomfortable when his ability to flee is taken away by a leash – again it is very early days for him having just been in his foster home for just 2 weeks thus far. He would greatly benefit from attending puppy classes and Kerry Greyhounds UK will urge his potential adopters to do so. ~ Out and About ~ Elliott really loves his walks, though doesn’t get very fidgety if you’re running late and mess up his routine. He is still learning to walk properly on the lead and again this might very well be the root of his current tenseness around other on lead dogs. He is still a young puppy though so it shouldn’t take him too long to figure out that being on lead and technically unable to run away isn’t anything to worry about. He is very good in the car and loves travelling with you. ~ Where Can I Live? ~ Elliott is still a young pup so can potentially learn to adapt to a range of home types. People are most definitely the center of Elliott’s world, and he needs human interaction to be really happy. He doesn’t ask much of his foster parents, just companionship, and is very happy to follow his foster mum around as she does the household chores. His love for people should make Elliott a really nice dog to work with and train, as he is so eager to get affection and to please his people. As such, we feel Elliott would be happy in a moderately active family or couple. He is very good with kids and could live happily in a home with children over the age of 8. Due to Elliott’s current feelings about other dogs, we think he would be fine to live as an only dog provided he’s not left alone for long periods of time. However, we also think he will eventually get over his current dog issues, and so could potentially go to a home with one or two other, confident dogs present who won’t take any bossiness from him. ~ Where Am I? ~ Elliott is currently in a foster home in Kent. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Elliott is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. He is being neutered this week, and so will be ready for adoption 2 weeks from now once his stitches come out. If interested in this boy, please don’t wait however, as we don’t expect him to be waiting for very long! 18. JACK **UPDATED: SEPTEMBER 2012** Jack is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound lad who is now looking for a loving home to call his own. Despite running over 100 races for his previous owner/trainer, Jack soon became surplus to requirement and was going to be put to sleep unless Kerry Greyhounds UK took him in. This dear boy could do with some love and care now that the racing world is finished with him. Jack is a big beautiful black and white boy. His coat is rather dull at the moment, but with regular brushing and a good diet, it won’t be long before Jack has a gorgeous sparkle to match his lovely personality. ~ Personality ~ Jack is a really lovely lad who has definitely made the most of what’s been given to him, and is quite happy in himself. He is easy-going and laid back, taking things in his stride. He really enjoys getting love and affection from people, though isn’t pushy or demanding about the amount of interaction he gets. In short, Jack is a really lovely boy who is happy with relatively little, and will be such a gorgeous addition to your household. Once he’s in a home environment and getting a steady supply of love, he’s going to be such an incredibly happy hound. ~ In the Home ~ Jack has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Jack is currently on our waiting list for a foster home and we hope to see him out of kennels as soon as possible. ~ Other Animals ~ Jack has been very good with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far, and enjoys his romp in the paddock. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs, but this will be carried out prior to adoption. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! Jack is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, Jack really is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. Jack has never known the comforts of a duvet or sofa, and once he does we think the biggest problem might be getting him up for his walks! 19. PADDY **UPDATED: SEPTEMBER 2012** Paddy is a 6 year old ex-racing greyhound boy. He is a rather striking black tuxedo boy with white trim and beautiful, piercing eyes. Sadly Paddy was rehomed about a year ago (as Panther) but has now come back to us to look for a new forever family. We would ideally like to see him homed sooner rather than later so he can quickly get over this sudden upheaval and settle again. ~ Personality ~ Paddy is a lovely quiet boy who is very content with the simple things in life. He relishes any chance to just stretch out and relax in the sun, and has a very calm, quiet demeanour in the house. Paddy loves people too and will soak up any attention you give him, though is not in your face about asking for more. He is polite and mannerly and all in all a very easy boy to keep happy, and is just enough of a goof to have you smiling on a daily basis! ~ In the Home ~ Paddy has been living in a home for the past year, so is very house savvy and knows all the basics. He might have one or two mistakes upon arrival simply due to the stress of moving to a completely new home, but he should quickly settle. Not much fazes Paddy and he is such an easy, loving lug to have around. He is very chilled-out in the house and quite the lazy boy, loving nothing more than to stretch out on his duvet and snooze the afternoon away. The perfect cuddle dispenser and furry heater on the cold winter nights. Paddy has been reliving his puppyhood lately and adores having someone to play with, be it human or canine. He is quite often found loping around the garden, running for the sheer joy of it. ~ Other Animals ~ Paddy is sharing his foster home with other greyhounds and gets on really well with them. He is happy to share his space and doesn’t ask for much at all. This lovely boy also adores his walks though needs a bit of care when being introduced to other dogs. If the other dog is a small, excitable type, Paddy can get a bit wound up by all the movement. However if the other dog is polite, he returns the same. Paddy is definitely most comfortable and social with other hound-shaped dogs – he knows his own! He is extremely mannerly and gentle when meeting other hounds, but may bark or show excitement if he sees a non-hound shaped dog running around in the distance. If given time and gentle but firm guidance, however, Paddy does settle down. He just needs who is prepared for his reaction, work with him on it, and with time and patience he will be a fab dog. Paddy is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, Paddy will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30 min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Due to mobility issues, he has not been getting as much exercise as we would recommend, but he is still a very calm, sedate lad in the house. ~ Where Am I? ~ Paddy is currently in foster care in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Paddy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 20. CASPER **UPDATED: AUGUST 2012** Meet the glorious Casper! He is a lovely fluffy lurcher who is approx. 3 years old. Casper was rescued out of the pound so we don’t have much history on him. He came to rescue quite thin with a patchy coat covered in old welts and healing wounds. That was a few months ago however, and Casper is definitely 100% ready for his forever family to come along. He has put on weight, gotten nice and fit, and has a beautiful silky fawn coat that is starting to glisten in the sun. Casper is quite a big boy at 28” to the shoulder. There has been a big debate as to what his mix is, but we think he may be borzoi x collie mix, perhaps with some saluki and retriever in there too! ~ Personality ~ Casper has SUCH a personality, you could write essays on him! He is gentle and friendly, very social and good with everyone and everything except cats. He really is a super dog with super potential to be that dream dog for someone. Casper is a perfect gent with children and doesn’t jump up or get boisterous around them. As such, he could live happily in a home with children over the age of 8. Casper is one of those beautiful dogs that is good and mannered but still has just enough ‘quirk’ to keep you on your toes! Its hard not to smile at this guy’s antics, and he keeps his fosterers well entertained. Casper loves toys, especially squeakers, and will play and romp around the garden with gusto before coming inside for a good long snooze. Like most lurchers, Casper loathes the rain, and like many lurchers, he is a rather devious food thief who will rob any unsupervised dinner. This is a habit that can be overcome and his foster parents have been working with him on it. ~ In the Home ~ Casper is generally very well behaved in the house and, apart from his countersurfing habit, he doesn’t cause any trouble or hassle. He is happy to snooze away after his morning walk and also after his mad moments of garden zoomies. He is fully housetrained and can be left with other dogs for company. He isn’t keen on being separated from his pack, however, and care will need to be taken with his new family so that he doesn’t become overly clingy, a behaviour that can lead to separation anxiety. Kerry Greyhounds UK have a behaviourist on hand to give advice on how to avoid this potential problem should you need it. ~ Other Animals ~ Casper is a dog savvy, sociable boy who really enjoys his canine company. He is currently sharing his foster home with 5 other dogs that include huskies and salukis, and is good with them all. He can become the play police if groups of 3 or more dogs are playing together, and likes to dictate how the play will be run, but he is not overly dominant and there is no malice in him at all. He loves to play with other dogs and would do very well in a home with one or several other dogs present to play and interact with. He might not be best homed with a very dominant male, but a bossy lady should be well tolerated. ~ Out and About ~ Casper is a total star when out and about. He is gentle, friendly, polite and calm, loving other people and animals alike. He is a very pretty looking gent and tends to attract lots of attention when out, which he soaks up like a great big fawn sponge! Casper walks well on the lead and travels good in the car. Bringing this boy out with you is pure pleasure. Casper can be let offlead in a secure area and has good recall. He will run around doing his own thing but always comes back to check in every now and then. Once he has bonded with his new family, Casper has great potential to be safe offlead provided there are no roads or livestock in the area. ~ Where Can I Live? ~ Casper is a very adaptable boy who could slot in to a range of home types. He would do well in a balanced pack of dogs, but could also likely adapt to living as an only dog provided he got a decent daily quota of human interaction – Casper loves his people. He can adapt to an active household with many walks a day, but also doesn’t mind if he only gets 1-2 short walks a day with offlead runs once or twice a week. This flexible boy is truly fantastic and has sooo much potential for his new family. He is a five-star hound! ~ Where Am I? ~ Casper is currently in a foster home in Norwich. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Casper is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Casper, please visit our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html for information and instructions on our homing procedures. 21. KOOKIE **UPDATED: 17TH AUGUST 2012** Meet the stunning Kookie and form an orderly queue! Kookie is a 2 year old greyhound girl who has never raced and is looking to find a forever family to call her own. Kookie is a real stunner – she has a light fawn coat and bright, intelligent eyes that show a lovely character waiting within her. This little lady is going to be a truly fantastic family member for a lucky someone. Kookie was in a home on trial for a few weeks but has sadly come back to us now as her owner’s working hours changed recently. Kookie was being kept as an only dog, and when her owner ended up having to work all day, the poor darlin’ was cooped up too long and started showing signs of anxiety and boredom. Now Kookie is in a foster home with 3 other greyhounds and is an ace girlie. ~ Personality ~ Kookie is a pure delight to be around. She is very friendly, adores her walks, and soaks up any hugs and kisses that come her way. She is still young at heart and likes to be kept busy, but does definitely adore her evening sofa snuggles! We hope she won’t have to wait very long to find her lifelong home, especially since she has come so very close already. ~ In the Home ~ Kookie has transitioned from kennels to home quite well. She is quiet through the night and really loves playing with her toys in the garden. She adores people and is very interactive. Kookie can become clingy around the house and would benefit from the early establishment of boundaries. Sometimes a small bit of ignoring is a good healthy thing. This clinginess has the potential to develop into separation anxiety if she bonds to closely and quickly to her new owners, but with the right levels of affection and discipline, she will truly flourish. Kerry Greyhounds UK has a behaviourist on hand to help you with this if needed. ~ Other Animals ~ Kookie is very good with other dogs, and really would be happiest in a home with another dog or three. She should slot well into an already balanced pack, and she gets great enrichment from socialising with other dogs of all ages. She is sharing her current foster home with 3 other greyhounds and gets on really well with them all. Kookie is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Kookie loves her walks very much, and she’s a joy to take out. She walks well on the lead and is very curious about all going on around her. She loves travelling in the car and is very quick to settle for the journey. This lady is going to be a fantastic family member and showing her the big wide world is going to be such a rewarding experience. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. 22. JAZZ & GEORGE **UPDATED: AUGUST 2012** This delightful duo is Jazz and George, both ex-racing greyhounds from Ireland. Jazz is the lovely black lad who is 7yrs old and George is the beautiful brindle boy who is now 6. Jazz and George were adopted together about 4 years ago, but have sadly now come back to us through no fault of their own. We are looking to get these two beautiful boys settled into a new forever home sooner rather than later, so that they can get over this huge upheaval and move on to happier times. ~ Home For Two ~ Jazz and George complement each other beautifully. They love each other’s company too, so we really do want to see them homed together if possible. Adopting two dogs might sound like a big step, but in many situations having two dogs is easier than one – they keep each other company when left and one will help the other settle in and adjust to their new family. And let’s not forget that you will be rewarded with double the love! ~ Personalities ~ Jazz and George are both lovely boys, but in different ways. George is the big social butterfly, always eager to meet new people, make new canine friends and be out and about exploring the world. He is super friendly and affectionate, but not in an over-the-top, bouncy way. He remains very mannerly and is well trained, except when he sees a rabbit in the distance! Jazz is the more reserved boy, happy to let George do the introductions while he gets an idea of the situation before approaching to say hi. He is not outright shy or nervous; he just likes to assess the situation from a distance for a minute before joining in. Once he knows you, Jazz is beautifully affectionate and loving, especially to ‘his’ humans, he’s just not quite the socialite that George is. Considering all the recent upheaval they have been through, both dogs are really super boys, very happy-go-lucky and undemanding. They would be two great dogs for a slightly older couple as they don’t require the same activity and exercise as a younger 2 year old dog. If they have a bit of excess run in them, they can happily play together and tire themselves out. They would also be candidates for a home with full time workers, as they can keep each other company when left and are happy enough to doze away provided they had a walk in the morning before being left. ~ In the Home ~ Both hounds have spent the last 4 years in a home so are very well adjusted and happy in a house. They are not destructive and will just snooze away when left once they are settled in their new home. They are quiet through the night and are housetrained, though they might have one or two indoor accidents when they first move into the new house due to the stresses involved. In general these boys are very easy to keep contented as they don’t demand much from you – just some love, yummy food and a soft bed and they’re happy as can be. Both dogs LOVE their food, and are attentive when given direction. In return you will be rewarded with double the love of two big sloppy boys – they live to give cuddles and curl up with you in the evening. ~ Other Animals ~ Jazz and George are in general good with other dogs, though sometimes Jazz can get a bit nervous if he feels crowded by other dogs. Again it is George that is the dog savvy, social boy who loves everyone, and Jazz prefers to watch interactions happen for a bit before joining in. So if met with a very in-your-face type of dog, he might feel a bit defensive and have a grumble. In general though these boys are very well behaved when out and are a joy to take out. They walk very well on the lead and keep to heel until they see a cat, rabbit or deer, then George especially can become quite strong on the lead. This behaviour can improve with calm but steady work on redirecting his attention to you, he would just need a bit of patience and repetition. Jazz and George love the car and enjoy going for trips together. ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, these lads are true couch potatoes and will not need a huge amount of exercise. They will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch their legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Jazz and George are great dogs to take out and walk with. As already mentioned, they walk to heel and don’t pull unless they see a small furry critter or deer in the distance. They are very good at meeting other people and are calm and mannered in busy or crowded situations. 23. BEACHY **UPDATED: 16TH AUGUST 2012** Meet the delicious Beachy. She is a 5 year old ex-racing greyhound lady who, after running many races and producing a litter of pups, sadly became surplus to her owner’s requirements. She was due to be put to sleep if we couldn’t take her in. Luckily Beachy now has the opportunity to find a loving family to call her own. She is a very pretty girl who is in nice condition despite her past, and has a soft brownish black coat with a white heart on her chest. She is 26” to the shoulder. ~ Personality ~ Beachy is a lovely friendly girl who really enjoys being around people and getting lots of cuddles. She is alert and attentive but also confident and laid back, really a super girl in the making. She is quite happy-go-lucky in demeanour and is a beautifully chipper girl to be around. She is going to be so very happy once in a loving family home, surrounded by love. ~ In the Home ~ Beachy has spent all her life so far in kennels, and has not been in a home environment before. Therefore, new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. We’re sure that once this girl discovered the comfort of a sofa or plush duvet, she will never want to get up again! ~ Other Animals ~ Beachy is well behaved with the other greyhounds in the kennels and has never caused any hassle. She has not been tested with small dogs or cats but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! ~ Out and About ~ Beachy walks very well on the lead, keeping to heel, and also travels great in the car. Like most greyhounds, Beachy will not need a huge amount of exercise. Once she settles into the retired hound life, she will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. 24. MAGGIE MAY **UPDATED: AUGUST 2012** Say hello to Maggie-May! She is a beautiful white and fawn lurcher girlie who is now looking for a loving home after a horrible start to life. Though just 18 months old, Maggie-May was taken from death row in a pound in Ireland, heavily pregnant and underweight. She has recovered very well from this ordeal now, and is a gorgeous healthy girl ready for a home of her own. ~ Personality ~ Though starting out from terribly sad circumstances, Maggie-May hasn’t let that dampen her spirits and love of life. This girl is just fantastic. She is brilliantly affectionate, fun loving and energetic, absolutely packed full of love and the potential to truly flourish in a loving home. Maggie-May looooooooves people. She would very gladly accept pettings and cuddles all day long. She loves meeting new friends, both human and canine, and is just a big bag of fun waiting to be had. It’s impossible not to smile at this girl and her big goofy grin and clownish antics. She will be a fantastic dog for a fairly active home, and would excel at something that makes her think, such as agility or flyball. Maggie-May might come across as bouncy initially, but give her 5 minutes to cool down and she’s a very attentive, interactive girl who looks to you for direction, especially if you give out tasty treats! ~ Other Animals ~ Maggie-May is brilliant with all other dogs and has never caused any trouble. She can get over excited during play, especially if she’s playing with another easily excited dog, but a quick break or distraction with food is all that’s needed to calm them down. At 18mths, Maggie-May is also still a puppy at heart, so this exuberance is understandable, it just might be a bit too much for a small or timid dog. There's no malice in her at all and she loves meeting new doggie friends. Maggie-May has not yet been cat tested but this will be carried out as soon as possible – she may be cat trainable. ~ In the Home ~ Maggie-May has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. This lady is going to love the home life and is sure to keep her new owners laughing hard with her antics. All she will need is a short period of learning and patience to adjust to the changes. This gorgeous girl would do so well in a home with other dogs present to help wear her out and drain her excess energy. She is still a young girl and quite exuberant, and for this reason alone we feel she would be better homed with a family without young children as she may bowl them over. Older kids or teenagers would be ideal for this girl, as she would truly love to be taught tricks and how to play fetch. This girl craves direction and would do well if given a ‘job’ to do. ~ Out and About ~ Maggie-May really enjoys her walks, almost as much as she enjoys her food! She is currently quite strong on the lead and will pull, so this is something that needs further work. A gentle leader or halter might very well be the cure to this, and it’s being worked on with our kennel walkers. This lovely lady has also never been in a home surrounded by people all the time, so half of this pulling is likely due to the pure excitement of getting interaction time. We would expect her excitement levels to decrease once she’s in a stable home environment with a healthy balance of love, exercise and training, she just needs that chance to prove herself. ~ Where Am I? ~ Maggie-May is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Maggie-May is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
