Tazz ~ Beautiful Exuberant Boy – 4Yo Fawn Greyhound
Tamakin replied to Tamakin's topic in Rescues- Dogs needing Homes
**UPDATED: 9TH MARCH 2013** Location: Foster home in Suffolk, UK. Say hello to the very handsome Tazz! He is a 6 year old ex-coursing greyhound boy who is now firmly finished with the racing world and wants a family to call his own. Tazz is a very gorgeous fella, with a soft fawn coat and the most amazing ears that stand to attention when hes listening to you! Tazz has been in foster care for about 15 months now, we can't believe he has been waiting so long. ~ Personality ~ Tazz is absolutely bursting to say hi to the world. He truly loves life, and is not shy about smothering you in kisses while his big helicopter tail spins in a blur. Tazz really is a super boy for the right kind of home. He is confident and full of beans, with a special part in his heart for people. Tazz adores humans in all forms, and is very biddable and will try his very best to be good once he realises what you want of him. Adding some tasty treats to this mix and you have a very trainable dog who is eager to work with you. Mr Tazz is a relatively active dog who likes to be in the thick of things. He loves to play with his houndy friends, and is always ready for a bit of goofing around. He really is a fabulous house dog and a beautiful family friend, always eager to provide the laughs. ~ In the Home ~ Tazz has been in his foster home many months now, and is very settled. He is housetrained, quiet through the night, is ok to be left either with other dogs or on his own, and is not destructive. He also knows the standard range of basic commands, and is happy to share his space. Strangely though he still hasnt mastered the stairs! He is living with 3 female greyhounds and absolutely loves them all, even if the love isnt returned! He is very mannerly and waits quietly for his turn to be fed morning and evening. Tazz is now enjoying all the home comforts he deserves, and he still relishes his sofa time. Tazz discovered what toys are all about several months ago, and he now loves flinging squeaky toys around during his mad hour in the garden. He is a real clown of a dog and never fails to put a smile on your face. Tazz is the perfect dog to come home to after a stressful day at work, just ten minutes of his big goofy smile and all your troubles will be lifted! ~ Other Animals ~ Tazz is excellent with other greyhounds & lurchers and adores being around houndy friends. He enjoys their company and is very sociable with them, though he can be a bit of a bull in a China shop due to his happy exuberance. He will also bark when playing and if meeting lots of other dogs at once. He just likes to let everyone know hes happy! Tazz does, however, not understand that small terriers and toy breeds are dogs too. Some greyhounds learn this quickly once off the track, and others take longer. Dear Tazz still thinks of small dogs as a lure to be chased, simply because he had never seen them before coming to us. Its clear that he does not yet know that dogs can come in different shapes and sizes, and he is unsure what to make of these new odd-shaped beings. When introduced to other dogs in a calmly and controlled fashion, he settles down and can walk alongside them, but he is definitely still a work in progress in this area. He will need many more exposures to many other dogs before he is completely convinced that they are, in fact, dogs! He must be shown how to react and interact with them, rather than making his own mind up as that usually results in barking and lunging. Because of this, Tazz must go to an experienced greyhound home who understand this mindset and know what to expect. Apart from this one single issue, Tazz really is absolutely fantastic in every other way. We dearly hope that someone can see past his single area that still needs work and cherish him for the beautiful character that he has. ~ Out and About ~ Tazz is a real gentleman on the lead, even when he sees another dog and gets excited and barky, he will never pull or lunge unless they run right past him. He really really loves his walks and these are by far the highlight of his day. Tazz also loves to go in the car and settles extremely well. He loves meeting people very much and loves going to social events where he can be suitably fawned over and loved. ~ Where Can I Live? ~ Because he is an exuberant boy who does not quite realise how big he is, it would be best if Tazz went to a home without young children as he may knock them over. A home with older kids or teenagers would be ideal, however, as they could play with him and teach him tricks. Tazz could do well as an only dog as he doesnt seem to mind being left, and he loves his people so very much. He is really great with other greyhounds and lurchers too though, and could live with another hound(s) very happily. If you want a positive, extroverted dog who will smother you in love at every opportunity, then Tazz may be for you. We dearly hope that his need for work with small dogs doesnt turn people away from adopting this lad, as he is sure to bring years of entertainment to whomever gives him a sofa space. He ticks so many boxes super friendly but mannerly, a goofball but listens to training, an active, walk loving boy but a couch potato too. ~ Where Am I? ~ Tazz is currently in a foster home in Suffolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Tazz is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Tazz, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. There is an application form for adopting Tazz, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. MALI **UPDATED: MARCH 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: No hang-ups to speak of. Balanced, affectionate, dog savvy, house savvy, walks to heel. Meet Mali! Mali is a lovely white and black lurcher boy who is about a year and a half now. He has been well looked after and is in great health, but is looking for a new home to call his own due to a marriage breakup. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Fantastic amiable boy. Friendly and cuddly. Adores people. Social and balanced. Mali is a truly wonderful boy, he ticks all the right boxes and needs little to no work to be 100% perfect. He has a lovely balanced nature and is nice and centered. He is super friendly with people, but in a gentle way, and is incredibly sweet. He loves his cuddles and is great with children of all ages, though we would like to see him homed with kids over the age of 8. Mali is a truly lovely boy with a placid, calm, sweet nature and would be a fantastic dog for a first time hound owner. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Housetrained, not destructive, ok to be left with canine company, quiet and mannerly./i] Mali is used to living in a home as part of the family. He is fully housetrained (though one or two accidents at the very start is normal for any dog), doesnt countersurf once told no, is not destructive and is used to being left with canine company during the day. Again, this fabulous boy ticks all the boxes and doesnt have any areas that need work. Hes pretty much perfect! ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Loves dogs, canine savvy, gentle and playful. Can live with confident cats. Mali loooooooves other dogs and is great with them. He would definitely be happiest with another dog in the home to keep him company, especially if his new parents work during the day, and he loves having a playmate to run and goof around with. He is very good with other dogs and knows how to read them. Mali is excellent with all canines regardless of size, type and gender, so really he could slot wonderfully into an existing pack, or be a lovely, low maintenance companion for a resident pooch. Mali used to live with cats, but did enjoy chasing them on occasion! As such he would only be suitable to live with a very confident kitty who would tell him where to go if he did try to chase. Please note that we only place dogs in cat homes around the Norfolk area, but if there is no cat involved in the homing, Mali can be homed throughout the UK. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, travels well, ok for offlead, social & friendly. Mali is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He would be very content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area a couple times a week. Mali had excellent recall with his previous owners, and just needs some time to develop a bond with his new family before he can be let off lead in safe areas away from public roads and livestock. Mr Mali walks like a gem on the lead and really a small child could easily walk him. He never pulls and is very happy to trot alongside you. He also travels well in the car and settles nicely for long journeys. ~ Where Am I? ~ Mali is currently in foster care in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster home to meet and collect him. Please also be aware that we only accept cat homings in and around the Norfolk area, but if there is no cat involved in the homing process, it is much more flexible. If you have any concerns about this, please feel free to contact us. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Mali is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Mali, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. GIDEON **UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Gideon would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Loves people, confident and social, excellent with greyhounds, walks to heel. This absolute smasher is Gideon! He is a 4 year old greyhound boy who is very big and very beautiful. Gideon ran an amazing 48 races during his 4 year career, though sadly still found himself unwanted at the end of the day and is now looking for a forever family to love and call his own. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Extremely loving, gentle, affectionate, adores people, very attentive, playful and goofy. Dear Gideon is completely gorgeous in every way, we cannot sing his praises enough. He is extremely affectionate, friendly, loving and confident with people. He ADORES us humans and really relishes a chance to interact and get loved on. And Gideon definitely doesnt scrimp on dishing out some lovin too! Hes so affectionate, loves giving cuddles and kisses, all the while being exceedingly gentle despite his large size. Gideon is a big tall boy who is very impressive, but even more gentle. He has done nothing but melt hearts on his journey to us in the UK, and we dearly hope people arent put off by his tall stature because Gideon has soooooo much enjoyment and love to give. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet in a home environment. Gideon has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. This big boy has raced enough during his 4 years, and now wants nothing more than a soft sofa beside his human in the evenings. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Excellent with greyhounds, not yet tested with other dogs. Gideon has been very good with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far and hasnt put a paw wrong. He is very happy and friendly to other hounds and is used to being in their company. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs yet, but this will be carried out soon. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! He is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, super social with people & greyhounds, travels well. Gideon walks well on the lead and doesnt pull. He also travels fantastically in the car. Like most ex-racing greyhounds, Gideon is a complete lazy bones and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. Gideon would need some work on recall training before he can be safely let offlead, but this is something easily done by his new parents. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. ~ Where Am I? ~ Gideon is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Gideon is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us. ALFIE **UPDATED: MARCH 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Stunning, regal, affectionate & entertaining, dog savvy, house savvy, pulls slightly on lead, recall needs work. Meet the magnificent Alfie! He is a 5 year old purebred saluki boy who is looking for a new home to call his own through no fault of his own. This boy is just drop dead GORGEOUS with his deep red grizzled brindle coat and beautifully long feathers. Dear Alfie came to us in a rather thin state but has picked up wonderfully now that hes in a loving foster home. He is ready and waiting to be snapped up at the speed of light! ~ Personality ~ Generally: A treasure! Friendly, very confident, self-assured, social, loving, playful, goofy. Alfie is a really gorgeous dog. He has a wonderfully affectionate and well-formed character and is a real Mr Charisma with everyone he meets. He is used to a home environment and used to people, so isnt afraid to ask for some lovins, but can also entertain himself with a toy or two when the mood takes him. He is wonderfully playful and has just enough cheekiness to be entertaining but not troublesome. He also likes to sing!! Alfie is a saluki in every sense of the word, and has a real aristocratic appearance. He carries himself wonderfully and is a real heartthrob of a hound. We hope to find this boy a top-notch home where he will be truly cherished as a family pet and be allowed to settle down after all this upheaval. He is a true treasure of a dog a pleasure to know and an honour to have. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Home savvy, housetrained, well mannered, ok with or without canine company. Alfie is used to living in a home environment and is very mannerly. He knows to wait patiently for his supper, doesnt countersurf, is quiet through the night, toilet trained and is generally a very low maintenance hound. Give him a squeaky toy and he would love to play with you, but can also have fun flinging around a squeaky by himself if need be. Alfie even does a few tricks and will sit and give the paw for treats. Alfie is used to sharing his home with other dogs, and does so without fuss. He enjoys the company of other dogs, but would also be quite content as an only dog as he loves his people very much. He has not been an only dog before so may need some time at the start to get used to being left alone, but we expect he should adjust to this relatively minor change quite easily. We have a behaviourist on hand to help with this training if required. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with other dogs, enjoys playing with medium-large breed dogs. Alfie is in general excellent with other dogs. He has no qualms sharing his home with canine friends and is not possessive of his toys or food. Out on walks, he can sometimes bark at other dogs in the distance, but when allowed to meet them he is very happy and mannerly. There is no malice in this boy, he just sometimes barks to let others know hes there! Alfie loves to play with other dogs and does so very well. He really loves the sighthound games of run and tag, but is social with all dogs. Sometimes he will grumble at dogs who get right up in his face upon initial introductions, but he never follows up with anything other than a moan at their lack of manners. He is a saluki, after all! Alfie might be a bit too tough for very small dogs due to how he plays, but he is fine with medium to large breeds. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Loves his walks, recall needs work, good with other people & dogs, pulls on lead, good traveller. Alfie is quite active and does really love his walks. He can pull sometimes on the lead, but will listen to correction well. He just forgets himself on occasion and pulls towards a certain must see scent. In the car he likes to see where hes going, but settles well and behaves himself. He would suit a moderately active home who will give him 2 decent walks a day, some playtime in between, and a chance to stretch his legs at a gallop a few times a week. Alfies recall is an area needing further work, and potential owners need to be aware that, being a saluki, he will need longer work than some other breeds in this area before he can be let safely offlead. This is best started in a completely secure area first, once a bond has been formed with his new parents, and then expanded to other areas. He should never be let offlead near public roads or livestock. Alfie is fine in the rural countryside and built up cities. He is a very adaptable, easy going boy who is generally contented once he has his human with him. He is a wonderfully loyal if occasionally strong willed boy, just like most salukis, and we really do want to see him in a home where he is admired and spoiled as all salukis should! ~ Where Am I? ~ Alfie is currently in a foster home in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to his foster placement to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Alfie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Alfie, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Kirwan is going to be such a fabulous family pet, we cant to see him in a home environment. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet experienced a home. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Considering how happy Kirwan is with his current kennel routine, hes going to be just over the moon when he gets to experience home comforts and be surrounded by love and cuddles 24/7. He wont know what to do with himself! ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Excellent with other greyhounds, not tested with small dogs yet. Confident but not pushy. Kirwan has been excellent with the other greyhounds in our kennels so far and is a really confident boy. He has been just fabulous with the other dogs he as met so far, and is confident but not pushy or dominant. He is simply extremely comfortable in his own skin, and is definitely interested in the ladies! Kirwan has not been tested yet with smaller dogs but this will be carried out once he has settled more into our kennels. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, loves his routine, friendly to everyone, travels very well. BRINNIE **UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Brinnie would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home. Key Points: Beautiful Brinnie is a 2 year old greyhound girl who wasnt fast enough for the track. She is now looking for a forever family to call her own. Brinnie is a really stunning girl; photos dont do her justice at all! She has a bright brindle coat with tiny white flecks running through it, and an unusually marked black muzzle. She really is a head-turner! ~ Personality ~ Generally: Brinnie is packed full of character and is a real joy to be with. She lives to learn, to explore and see the world around her. She has an active mind that needs to be given activities to do or shell come up with ideas of her own. Brinnie has huge potential to excel at something that requires speed and brains, for example agility. She takes direction really well and is quick to pick up new things. This girl is definitely a dog that can excel as high as her owner if you put the time in to her you will definitely get the reward back. Brinnie loves everyone around her and assumes everyone loves her back! She is super friendly and always ready for a cuddle. A really fantastic girl who would be great for teenagers or kids over the age of 8 because she is bursting to learn new things and play games. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Brinnie has been in a foster home in Ireland for several weeks, though is currently in kennels again now that shes come across to the UK. She is a very inquisitive girl but picks up on the house rules and will listen to direction. She may need a bit of patience for the first few days as she pokes her nose into everything, but once accepted as uninteresting she leaves things alone. She is a bit nervous on laminate flooring and needs more practice walking on it to feel more secure. She really loves her grub and is a lovely little cuddlebum on the sofa in the evenings. Brinnie shared her foster home with several other dogs and got on splendidly with them all. She is still very much a puppy in behaviour and non-confrontational. She LOVES to run and LOVES to play, something which can get a bit rough if allowed to progress. She accepts a telling off from another dog very well though, and really is a super girl. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: As mentioned, Brinnie is very good with other dogs, especially those that like a bit of rough n tumble. She shared her foster home with an ever-changing array of dogs including Dobermans, German Shepherds, Labradors and greyhounds and got on with them all. She has not spent a lot of time around very small dogs, but is believed to be small dog friendly. We will test this more thoroughly shortly. Though there is no malice at all in her, Brinnie can get boisterous when playing tag and so care may be needed around very small or delicate dogs as she may accidently hurt them. Brinnie shared her foster home with a hamster and, after a few days of extreme interest, soon got bored and largely ignored the little guy thereafter. She has not been tested with cats yet but could potentially be cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Brinnie is an active girl who ideally needs a hard burst of speed before a training session to calm her down. Even if its just a 2 minute zoom, she is far more receptive and can hold attention for longer after shes gotten that initial burst out of her system. She does need a bit of work on walking to heel, again something best worked on after shes drained some energy first. Though she may appear as a total livewire at first, she does tire quickly and is very happy to become a sofa-bug in the evenings after her exercise. Brinnie has good recall when offlead, but she will still need some time building a bond with her new owners before she can be let offlead in any overly large or unenclosed space. Once this has been worked on, Brinnie is suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads, but be aware that being a greyhound she will have the instinct to chase anything small and furry! ~ Where Am I? ~ Brinnie is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Brinnie is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She will be neutered before going to her new home. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Brinnie, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. BESSY **UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013** Location: Previous home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Home savvy, very loving, timid of strangers, good with dogs, travels well, good first time hound. The gorgeous Bessy is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound girlie who is looking for a new home. Bessy has been in a home environment for the past 3 years, but has sadly had to come back to us now through no fault of her own. She is a gorgeous black girl who is in tip-top condition. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Timid at first, then friendly, loving, cheeky and playful. Bessy is a very sweet girlie who will appear quiet and maybe a bit reserved upon first meeting you, but becomes a super friendly, affectionate and bouncy girl once she recognises you as a friend. She is a lovely girl who blossoms into her own if given a wee bit of time upon initial introductions. Bessy would be a fantastic girl for a first time hound owner as she doesnt have any major issues to speak of. She is very loving and cuddly, especially in the evenings, and is an all-round star of a dog. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: House savvy, not destructive, food thief, ok to be left with canine company. Bessy is well used to living in a home environment, and is housetrained and home savvy. She is not destructive and ok to be left with canine company while her parents work. Bessy knows all the usual household dos and donts but that doesnt mean she wont still try to pinch your dinner! She is a very good, well behaved girl but does still have juuuuuust enough of a cheeky streak to keep you on your toes. Shes a rather large foodie and will look for scraps of food at dinner time. Her previous owners have a baby gate that can go with her to her new home to help control her manners in the kitchen. Bessy loves her toys and is a regular comedy act when she flings them around the room. She likes to vocalise a bit when she gets really excited, such as just before walkies or when offlead playing with other dogs. There is no malice in her at all and the barking is not excessive, its just her rather loud way of saying how happy she is. She also barks to tell you when she needs to visit the garden. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with dogs, loves to play. Bessy loves other dogs and really would be happiest with at least one other pooch to keep her company in her new home. She is used to being left during the day with another greyhound Finley (also looking for a forever home), and so is not used to being completely alone. When offlead with other dogs, Bessy loves nothing more than a game of chase. As such she may be happiest with another dog who can play her game, i.e. keep up with her! She can get a bit over-zealous with very small dogs and be too rough for them, but she will stop playing if told. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks well with Halti, timid of strangers, travels well, good recall. Bessy walks well with a Halti as she can at times pull without it. She tends to be a bit nervous of strangers, especially men, approaching her, but again if given a bit of time she comes into her own quite quickly. Her recall is relatively good but she will need a bonding period with her new owners before she can be let safely offlead. Once her recall is proven in save secure areas, Bessy would be suitable to be let offlead in areas away from public roads and livestock. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. ~ Where Am I? ~ Bessy is still with her previous owners in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to Norfolk to meet and collect her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Bessy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. NOAKES **UPDATED: 22nd JUNE 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Noakes would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Playful & affectionate once he knows you, nervous of strangers, needs someone willing to work with him, young puppy at heart, dog friendly, walks to heel, knows basic tricks. This delicious boy is Noakes. He is a broken coated lurcher boy, likely with some bearded collie in the mix, who is approx 1 year old now. Dear Noakes was taken off the streets only to find himself in a pound with a time over his head. Thanks to the mediation of Rescue Helpers United, however, he was taken out and transported to us. He was in poor condition upon arrival, but has since put on a lot of weight and is looking much better. We can't wait to see him in a loving home though, where he can continue to put on weight and condition. Noakes recently had a private session with the very talented Madaboutgreys Photography (http://www.madaboutgreys.com/), and now has some stunning photos that really show his wee soul. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Very loving and cuddly once familiar with you, nervous of strangers, goofball, playful, bouncy, on the cusp of blossoming & just needs a loving home. Noakes has not had the best start to life and arrived to us an extremely timid and untrusting young dog. It is so sad to see such a young dog so traumatised by people. Noakes has been with us for 3 months now, however, and has made some huge improvements. He is now familiar with all our kennel staff, and is super affectionate and playful with them. When comfortable with you, he shows himself to be a big bouncy goofball, reminding you that he is still just a pup at heart. He really has come on splendidly whilst in our kennels, but we feel he very much needs to find a home, be it permanent or a foster placement, so that he can get one-on-one attention and truly flourish to his full potential. We feel we are just scraping the surface of his beautiful personality, and really he just needs a chance to prove himself. Noakes is currently still nervous of strangers, the degree of which very much depends on how he is approached. Slow and steady is the way to this boy’s heart, if you push him too far or too quickly he can try to flee, panic if he can't, and air snap out of pure terror. It is very clear that Noakes does not want to react aggressively; it will only happen if he feels he has no other choice. Because of this we feel that Noakes should not be around young children until some work has been done on regaining his trust and building his confidence. If you allow him time to realise that you won’t hurt him, he quickly becomes a puddle of goo. Noakes has had some basic training whilst with us, and will sit and give the paw. He is very much a foodie and so training is a doddle. Giving him things to do also helps him adjust to stressful situations, and once he is in a home this could be a fantastic bonding activity. We really believe that Noakes has the potential to completely transform once in a loving and steady home environment with daily work on his current issues, he just needs that very special someone to give him the opportunity. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet in a home. Noakes has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. The home environment will be a very new experience for this young boy, but if just given a bit of time to adjust to the radical changes, he should settle down very well. This boy is really crying out for a home so that he can experience living and loving people and get the attention he so badly needs. We are appealing for a foster home for this beautiful lad, ideally someone who is up for the challenge of showing this boy that the world isn’t really all that scary. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with other medium-large dogs, can be boisterous with smalls. Noakes is in general good with other dogs, though he may need to be watched with very small canines in case he gets too over-excited or rough. He really enjoys the company of other dogs, and would benefit hugely from living with at least one other well-adjusted dog who can show him the ropes and help him to realise that he doesn’t have to be wary or distrustful. Noakes is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, travels well, care needed if approached by strangers. Noakes walks very well on the lead and is happy to trot alongside you, the only exception being if something frightens him. Noakes’ first reaction is to flee the scene should something scary happen, so some care needs to be taken when walking him in public places to ensure he doesn’t slip his collar. Noakes also isn’t suitable to be let offlead yet and will need a lot of owner bonding before his recall would be dependable. This is definitely something that is achievable down the line though. Noakes travels well in the car, and is a doddle to take anywhere. ~ Where Am I? ~ Noakes is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Noakes is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Noakes, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Noakes, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. OLGA **UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Adores people, super friendly, big fan of cuddles, needs work with other dogs, house savvy, housetrained, walks to heel, travels well. Olga is a very special little girl who is approx. 3 years old. She was taken off the streets in Romania only to find herself landed in a kill shelter with absolutely deplorable conditions. Lucky for her, a rescue stepped in and, long story short, she now has all 4 paws firmly planted in the UK! Olga is a very pretty fawn and white lurcher type girl, medium sized at 25 to the shoulder. She is in great condition now after lots of good food and TLC. Olga definitely doesnt look like shes from around here, and she gets lots of positive attention when out and bout. The only thing this girl needs now is a loving forever home to call her own. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Extremely affectionate & sweet, learning to play, growing in confidence daily. Its really amazing that Olgas horrible start to life hasnt caused her to doubt humans she simply ADORES people. She can never get enough fuss and attention, and is always happy to meet someone new. Having said that, she isnt overly demanding or pushy either, and will generally ignore people who dont approach her. She is incredibly loving and affectionate, and will come and check in with you a few times a day for nothing more than a hi Ive missed you hug. When shes really happy she chatters her teeth together and has a very waggy tail. She is fabulous with children and could do excellently in a home with kids over the age of 8. Olga is still adjusting to what is obviously a huge change for her. She is doing extremely well and making steady progress. She is already relaxed in the house, and has started to play. In short, this girl is just a delight to have for company! ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Housetrained, comfortable & settled, ok to be left for short periods, learning house rules. Olga has been in her foster home for just 2 weeks, and the difference in her since her arrival is astounding! She is already completely comfortable in the house and knows the daily routine. She is housetrained, quiet through the night and is so far ok to be left for 1.5hrs with no fuss at all. This timeframe will be gradually lengthened as she settles more. She is learning all the house rules and accepting instruction without an ounce of fuss were sure shes just so grateful for a soft bed and a warm home that she doesnt want to put a foot wrong. Olga knows her foster family well already, and has formed a healthy bond. She is always happy to see her foster parents when they come home, loves having guests over (of course she does, it means even more cuddles!!) and she is fantastic with the 2 children, aged 8 and 10. She is starting to learn some basic commands now such as sit and stay, and quickly learned to wait patiently for her supper. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Tense around other dogs, needs positive socialisation, currently best as only dog. Olgas distressing past means that she needs to relearn how to relate to other dogs. The kill shelter that she was in was badly overcrowded with not enough food to go around, and this has obviously created some dog-associated issues that Olga needs to overcome. We have no doubt that she can learn to be comfortable around other dogs again, but right now Olga can be tense and on edge when meeting unfamiliar dogs. When she sees another dog, Olga pulls on the lead and barks, though when up close she will ignore the other dog if they politely ignore her. She is at her worst if she has to eat alongside another dog, and becomes very tense and will food guard, though she is as sweet as can be with people. With the right selection of canine teaching helpers, Olga can definitely become social and happy in their company again. She just needs lots of repetition, patience, and gentle guidance. Kerry Greyhounds UK has a behaviourist on board who can help new owners help Olga overcome this. Because of this current issue, Olga would be best going to a home without other pets at the moment. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Well behaved & walks to heel unless sees other dog, then pulls/barks, fantastic with all people incl children. Olga walks like a dream on the lead. She trots happy alongside you and likes to occasionally nuzzle the back of your knees, as if checking in with you. She will pull and bark if she sees another dog, but this is improving already after just 2 weeks in her foster placement. She is also getting very quickly accustomed to passing traffic, and travels great in the car. She doesnt need a huge amount of exercise, and is content with just two 30min walks a day and a daily bout of mad garden zoomies. Due to her reaction to other dogs, Olga is currently not suitable to be let offlead unless it is a completely secure area, but with time this can very easily change. Olga is a very chilled out girl at heart, and is only tense at times because of her still relatively recent past. She just needs patience and a kind guiding hand and she will improve drastically over the next year. After so much turmoil, this girl so deserves her chance at a forever home. ~ Where Am I? ~ Olga is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Olga is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Olga, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. FINLAY **UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013** Location: Previous home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Very affectionate, loyal & obedient, housetrained, ok with dogs, bit of care with small dogs, suitable to live with other medium-large canines & children over 8. Finlay is an 8 year old greyhound gent who sadly has to move on from his home of 3 years due to no fault of his own. His sister Bessy is also looking for a home to call hers, but they can be homed separately. Finlay is a beautiful fella with a white coat and brindle patches. He never raced and spent most of his earlier years as a pet in Ireland. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Calm, gentle, affectionate, very loving and loyal, good manners, easy-going. Finlay has a really beautiful character, a kind soul. He truly wants to get along with you, and is one of the most no-bother dogs you could ask for. He is extremely easy going and accepts what comes his way without much fuss. Finlay adores people and loves a good cuddle. He gentle pushes himself against your legs for a bit of TLC, and really does soak up every drop of love and affection that you give. He can also do a few tricks such as sit and lay down. He is a lovely laid back boy, content in his own skin and nicely confident. This fella has so very much to give to whoever has space on their sofa for an older gent. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Housetrained, very good, ok to be left with canine company, not destructive. Finlay is very used to living in a home, and is no bother at all. He is quiet through the night, used to being left with canine company, doesnt countersurf and isnt destructive. He is fully housetrained, but may still have an accident when he first moves to the new home simply due to the upheaval and stress of the move. Finlay is a real lazy butt and is very happy to snooze most of the day away, following a patch of sun around the floor. He has occasional moments of madness, where he flings a toy around the garden with you, but then is content to settle down again and doze. He really adores his cuddle time. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Great with familiar canines, can bark at dogs but is not aggressive, suitable to live with another medium-large dog. Finlay is in general ok with other dogs. He is fantastic with other sighthounds and is used to sharing his home with another greyhound friend. He can bark at other dogs when meeting them on lead, but this is mainly due to him copying his houndy sister Bessy, who gets excited when she sees unfamiliar dogs. Finlay hasnt quite mastered small dogs yet, and is a bit unsure about what they are. He isnt very strong or keen, however, and with lots of positive exposure to other breeds of dog more often, we believe he will overcome this issue. Finlay shared his previous home with 2 hamsters and was originally living on a farm in Ireland with a host of other animals. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Excellent on lead, great in car, polite when meeting other people, good recall. Like most greyhounds, Finlay is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks excellently on the lead and always keeps to heel. Finlays recall is very good for a greyhound type, and though he does occasionally have moments of complete deafness, his previous owners report that he never strays far from your side. As such, he will be suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads after he has bonded well with his new owners. ~ Finlay is currently still in his previous home in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Finlay is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. SPIRIT **UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Super dog, huge potential, active mind, loves people, friendly, dog savvy, travels well, would flourish in an active home who will exercise his body and his brain. The beautiful Spirit is a 1 year old lurcher boy who is looking for a forever family to call his own. He is a fab young dog with a sleek, shiny coat and just needs a bit more muscling before hes an absolute stunner. Spirit was very lucky to be rescued from a potentially not-so-nice life, and his only remnant of this bad start is his docked tail. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Friendly, exuberant, loves life, has basic training, needs work on focusing and attention span, huge potential. Spirit lives up to his name, as hes simply full of it! Hes a lovely, exuberant, active boy who is crying out for someone to play with him and show him fun things to do. He has a very bright mind that really needs a job to do. Spirit would be fantastic at something active and exciting such as agility or flyball. We think hed be a pro! Spirit loves people and is super friendly Hell smother you in kisses, and befriends everyone he meets. He can have the occasional moment of nervousness, though that is often seen in adolescent dogs and is something they grow out of with some confidence building. He seems to know the basic commands, but needs more work on his ability to focus and concentrate. This boy needs positive training with tasty treats and engaging interactions to learn and grow. He is still just a puppy, after all! ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet in a home. Clean in his kennel. Loves toys. Spirit has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. Spirit is clean in his kennel, which suggests that he may not take long to master the art of housetraining. He will likely be very inquisitive and curious about the brand new home environment, but should soon get a grasp of the house rules. He LOVES to play and is guaranteed to be a fantastically rewarding family member. We can't stress enough how super this dog is! ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Adores dogs, loves playing chase, would do best living with another dog(s). Spirit has been ace with all the other dogs he has met. He loves canine company, and adores nothing more than a good hard run with someone who can keep up with him. He is non-confrontational with other dogs, accepts a telling off, and is also more happy and adjusted in their company. He would be delighted to live in a home with another playful dog or two present to help burn any excess energy. Spirit has not been tested with cats yet, but this can be carried out if required. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Learning to walk to heel, excellent in the car, social and curious. Being just a puppy, Spirit does have more energy and healthy exuberance than your average adult greyhound. He does still have his flop on the grass moments, but also loves to be active and use his brain. He would absolutely flourish in a fairly active home that will take him on long walks and show him the world. His lead training is a work in progress but he is getting there quite quickly right now if he sees another dog, he wants to say hi right now! He travels great in the car and settles down straight away. With a decent amount of time on recall training and bond building in the home first, Spirit will be suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads and livestock. This boy would be a really good jogging companion, or could even run alongside you on the bicycle. ~ Where Am I? ~ Spirit is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Spirit is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Spirit, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. YOGI **UPDATED: JANUARY 2013** Location: Kennels in Suffolk, UK. Yogi would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Just perfect! Friendly, gentle, mannerly, calm, walks to heel, travels well, dog savvy. Form an orderly queue! The delicious Yogi is an approx. 2 year old deerhound x boy who has come to us to find a loving forever home of his own. He is a big squishy scruffy lovebug with huge soft eyes and a lovely fawn coat. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Super friendly, cuddlebug, gentle, engaging with people. Yogi is really just fantastic. He is affectionate and very friendly but in a quiet and calm way that is very typical of sighthounds. He loves to be loved, but doesnt demand it and is very gentle. Yogi really adores people and is always hoping for a cuddle. This boy is going to be just fantastic, and would be a really great dog for a first time hound owner as he has no vices to speak of. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Has lived in home before with no problems. Yogi is not currently in a home, but has been in a home environment in his past. This combined with his natural laid back nature means we expect him to settle quickly into his new home without much fuss. Yogi was housetrained in his previous home, and is also clean in his kennel. Yogi loves his food and is very responsive to treats, an excellent training device. He would love to do some fun activity with his new parents, such as perhaps agility or heelwork to music. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very dog savvy, enjoys their company, would enjoy living with other dogs. Yogi has been really great with all the other dogs he has met. Really nothing fazes him. He is very happy with canine company and appears to be dog savvy and social. He is polite when meeting new dogs and will accept invitations to play if offered. He is not cat friendly. Yogi would enjoy the regular company of other dogs and may slot extremely well into an existing pack. He could also be a fantastic, laid back companion for a resident pooch. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, calm, very social, loves everyone, excellent in the car. Out on walks, Yogi remains simply fabulous. He is calm, polite, gentle and walks to heel. He really loves meeting new people and making new canine friends, and is a real delight to take anywhere. After some work has been done on recall and bonding with his new owners, Yogi is suitable to be let off lead in safe areas away from public roads. In the car, Yogi settles excellently, in fact the motion of the car tends to send him right to sleep! We can't stress enough what a fabulous boy Yogi is, he is ready and waiting for a home to call his own. And what a lucky home that will be. ~ Where Am I? ~ Yogi is currently in kennels in Suffolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Yogi is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. WINNIE **UPDATED: 16TH JANUARY 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Quiet and loving, quirky, home savvy, good with dogs, walks to heel. Winnie is a 4 year old greyhound girl who sadly had found a home over a year ago but has now come back to us through no fault of her own. She is looking for a forever family to call her own. Winnie is a dainty black girl who has a lovely shiny coat and is in great condition. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Fantastic wee girl, super affectionate, loves people, quirky, endearing. Winnie is a true little superstar. When she first arrived to us, about 2 years ago, she was really just a shell of a dog. Terribly traumatised by an unknown past, untrusting and scared of her own shadow. Once she entered a foster home, however, Winnie completely flourished and is today completely unrecognisable from the scared little girl she was originally. She has a beautifully strong heart and no one deserves a stable home to call her own more than this little lady. Winnie loves people and will happily come forward for hugs and lovin. When she greets you, she pushes her head in between your arm and body so that she is in prime position for a good hug. She loooves neck scratches and will share Eskimo kisses with you if you are willing! She is a very sweet, intelligent and lively lady. It doesnt take her long to figure things out. Her little personality is so endearing, and just quirky enough to keep you laughing on a daily basis! She might still have brief moments of fright, for example at a sudden loud noise, but if left think it out for a minute or two she quickly recovers her composure and carries on without further fuss. This girl most definitely loves life now, and is happy in herself. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Home savvy, housetrained, happiest with canine company, not destructive. Winnie is very used to living in a home. She is housetrained and ok to be left with canine company. She is quiet as a mouse throughout the night and is not destructive. She can on occasion take to gathering certain objects and piling them in her bed such as slippers, pillow cases and soft toys but she never chews the items. She just likes things to be tidy! Winnie loves nothing more than coming home from her walk and flopping on the sofa with all 4 paws in the air. She adores her home comforts and is very grateful for a soft sofa to roach out on. Winnie has great manners and sits quietly while waiting to be fed and will start to eat on command. She is used to sharing her space with other dogs and does so without a fuss. When she first entered a home, Winnie learned a huge amount from her canine foster siblings, and she does still very much enjoy having canine company today. We feel she would be happiest in a home with another dog or two to hang out with. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Loves other dogs, friendly and polite, not overly playful. Winnie is well behaved and polite in meeting other dogs. A bit of care may be needed if other small dogs are running around offlead as Winnie can get a bit overexcited, but if everyone is on lead shes very good. She enjoys canine company though she doesnt need to play all day to be happy. She would be a great companion for an older dog who just needs general interaction and a bit of company during the day. She is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, can be spooked by loud noises, travels well. Like most greyhounds, Winnie will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week once a strong bond has been formed with her new owners. Winnie is very good when out and about, again vastly improved from the scared little mite she was initially. Sudden loud things such as gunshot or fireworks will frighten her, but she is in general a very well-adjusted hound now. She walks to heel on the lead and travels good in the car. ~ Winnie is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Winnie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Winnie, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. MOHICA **UPDATED: 8th JANUARY 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Mohica would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home. Key Points: Loving, active, cheeky, fun-loving, playful, walks to heel, excellent with other dogs. Meet the smashing Mohica. She is a 3 year old greyhound girl who has spent all her life so far in kennels, but has never raced. She is a gorgeous shiny-coated black girl who got her name from having a wee little mohawk that runs down the back of her neck! Mohica has huge big eyes that are very expressive, and is in good condition. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Fun-loving, intelligent, mischievous, adores people. Mohica is a fabulous little character, full of beans and bright as a button. Though a bit quiet and shy when you first meet her, once youve become acquainted, her little personality shines through. Its very fitting that she has a small mohawk on her neck, as Mohica has just the right amount of spunk and cheeky mischief to keep you on your toes whilst providing daily laughs. She is guaranteed to keep you smiling, and really is incredibly loving and endearing. She really adores people and getting a big of fuss, and is always looking to you for the next fun outing. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not currently in a home. Mohica has not technically lived in a home, though her previous owner used to let her into the kitchen during the day. As such, she is relatively familiar with the sights and sounds of a home so we dont think it will take her long to settle. In keeping with her cheeky streak, Mohica knows how to push open doors and one of her favourite pastimes in her previous placement was raiding the kitchen for cheese! Mohica is such a delight to have around. We cant wait to introduce her to toys as up until now she has made do with bits of sticks to play with. When she gets her first squeaky ball shes going to be so delighted! This girlie is going to be a fabulous addition to a moderately active household who will keep that mind of hers nice and busy and out of mischief! ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Fantastic with other dogs, loves to play. Not yet cat assessed. Mohica is excellent with other dogs and really loves running and playing with them. She is used to sharing her space with several other greyhounds and really enjoys canine company. Because she has a fairly active mind that likes to keep busy, we think she would be best in a home with another young playful dog present so they can romp together and wear each other out. She is not yet cat tested though this can be carried out if required, just ask! ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, interested and curious, good traveller. Like most greyhounds, Mohica will not need as much exercise as one might think. She will be content with two 30min walks a day, a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area a couple times a week, and some garden zoomies at home. She walks well on the lead and travels great in the car. Mohica has not seen much of the big wide world around her, so may need a bit of time to adjust to busy or built up areas, but she would adjust to any situation and is very curious. ~ Mohica is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Mohica is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She is not neutered yet but this will be carried out before she goes to her new home. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Mohica, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. WHISPER **UPDATED: JANUARY 2013** Location: Foster home in Hertfordshire. Key Points: Very easy-going, friendly, healthy & spritely for her age, content in herself, dog savvy, becoming housetrained. Please say hi to dear old Whisper. She is a 12 year old ex-racing greyhound lady who has sadly spent every one of those 12 years in an outdoor kennel until coming to us just a month ago. No one deserves to find a loving forever home more than Whisper, and we dearly hope someone can offer it soon. Surely 12 years is a long enough wait! ~ Personality ~ Generally: Affectionate, loves people, content in herself, asks for nothing. Whisper is… well, just a little bit ‘wonky’. She has a few scars, a slightly kinked front leg from an old injury, a pair of ears that have a mind of their own, and her pupils aren’t quite equal in size. However despite all this, Whisper carries an inner strength that belies her years. It’s truly inspiring to see. She is healthy and alert and knows her own mind. Once she has sorted where her bed, cuddles and food supply comes from, she is 100% contented and happy to potter around, enjoying life. Whisper has shown herself to be friendly and affectionate with people, and loves a good scratching session. She has always been treated kindly by people and this shows in her easy-going, happy-go-lucky manner. Whisper is also inquisitive and interested in the brand new environment she now finds herself in, and is eager to learn what a house is all about. She knows her name and now knows the basic daily routine of her fosterers. ~ Medical Issues ~ Whisper has been given a full veterinary check and passed with flying colours. The vet certified that she is amazingly healthy for her age, and she has no current medical condition. Even her teeth are ok! Obviously due to her age, Whisper should not be doing the 100m sprint, but she is used to daily walks and really looks forward to them. Whisper is too old to risk being neutered, and potential owners are welcome to talk to us about any concerns they may have due to this. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: House savvy, becoming housetrained, ok with canine company, quiet and undemanding, needs calm relaxing home. Whisper has been in a foster home for about a month now, and her progress is nicely steady considering her amazing age. She is grasping the concept of ‘housetraining’ and it is developing very well. Right now she just needs frequent reminding to go outside, especially after eating and drinking. She is also now clean through the night. However we don’t think Whisper would be able to adjust to holding it for more than 4-5hrs during the day, so ideally she needs a home where she will have human company throughout the day with only the odd exception. Whisper would also be happiest in a quieter home without young children or boisterous dogs to disturb her. She deserves the opportunity of a quiet retirement home where she can learn to relax on comfortable duvets and sofas, and be doted on regularly. If you think you can offer this to Whisper, please contact us. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Dog savvy, best with older dogs. Whisper is great with other dogs in that she doesn’t really take much notice of them! At her age, one can't be dealing with young rambunctious pups! She has met other dogs of all sizes, and may give a brief sniff hello before continuing on her way. She is sharing her foster home with 2 mannerly greyhounds and is no bother at all with them. Despite her age, Whisper definitely knows what cats are and would give chase if given the chance. As such, she is not suitable to live with cats. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, good for pottering around, learning to travel in car. Whisper loves her daily walks and needs them to keep herself fit and healthy. However she is a bit of a ‘plodder’ and is happy to go for twice daily pottering-about rather than a 30 minute brisk trot. She likes to stop at random moments and literally smell the roses, and at her age we feel she is completely entitled to! Whisper can get car sick if travelling for long periods of time. Her foster mum is working with her on this by taking her on frequent short trips, and she is improving. Whisper would be a fantastic companion for an older family who are at home most of the day but who perhaps need the incentive to get out for some fresh air twice a day. ~ Whisper is currently being fostered in Hertfordshire, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to her foster home to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Whisper is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. As mentioned, due to her age Whisper is not suitable to be neutered, so if going to a home with another male dog, that dog must be neutered. She most also be kept away from male dogs when in season. You are very welcome to talk to us about this in further detail. If you are interested in adopting Whisper, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. HOLLY **UPDATED: JANUARY 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Very affectionate, gentle, cat friendly, would like canine company. Holly is a young lurcher puppy who is currently 5 months old. Holly’s mum was rescued off the streets in Ireland when heavily pregnant, and Holly was born there before coming to Kerry Greyhounds UK with her brother Billy to find a loving family. Holly is a teeny tiny girl at just 19” to the shoulder, and has a lovely soft fawn coat with a thin white stripe down her face. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Cuddly, playful, cheeky, very sweet. In short, Holly is just cute as a button! She is very friendly and adores cuddles from everyone and anyone, and her small size means she CAN be a lapdog lurcher! As long as you don’t mind kisses, that is! Holly has a lovely little personality. She is in general quiet and gentle but still does have her rambunctious moments of cheeky fun. Just enough to keep you on your toes! Holly is going to be a really fantastic furry friend. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Almost housetrained, still chews, learning the rules. Holly has been in her foster home for a month now, and her learning of the house rules is coming along nicely. She is just about housetrained and asks to go out. Holly is very responsive to people and loves learning new things. She is currently working on sitting for her dinner and to go to bed when told. She really loves her human cuddles and belly rubs. Holly also adores kids and could live happily in a family with children over the age of 8. New owners will need to remember that she is still a puppy and still does the things puppies do, which includes lots of playing, chewing and digging, so definitely a bit of destruction. Teaching Holly to chew only her toys and not any item she picks up is an on-going process of persistent but gentle redirection from any household object to one of her own toys. Holly also has a habit of weeing if she gets overexcited, though we expect her to grow out of this as she reaches adulthood. If prepared for this wee monster and comfortable with working through these habits until she is past her chewing phase, then Holly will be a truly fantastic dog to have. She has oodles of potential to do anything asked of her, and could adapt to a range of lifestyles and home types. In short, with a bit of patience and repetition at the start, you will have a bonded friend for life. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with dogs, cats and small furries. Would benefit from canine company. Holly is very good with other animals including dogs and cats. She is a naturally submissive wee girl and can be a bit nervous when meeting new dogs, but soon comes out of herself and bounds around in play. She can sometimes be a bit on the shy side, and so we feel her absolute ideal home is one with another dog or two already present to teach her that there's actually nothing to be afraid of. Holly is not currently living with cats but has been cat tested and passed with flying colours. Please note that if cats are involved in the homing, we only place dogs in and around the Norfolk area. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Can be shy at times, needs confidence building. Good in car. Holly is an inquisitive little girl, though at times the big wide world can scare her a wee bit. She just needs to build a bit of confidence in herself and trust in her owners, and we expect these mild nerves will disappate. As already mentioned, we also think that having another confident dog present in the home will greatly help Holly come out of her shell. Time and gentle repetition is all this girlie needs to become excellently adjusted and an all-round star. ~ Where Am I? ~ Holly is in a foster home in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Holly is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She is not yet neutered due to her age, and new owners will need to agree to have this done as soon as she reaches the required age. Please feel free to discuss this with us in more detail when you make your enquiry. If you are interested in adopting Holly, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. BILLY **UPDATED: JANUARY 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Playful, intelligent, very adaptable, dog & cat friendly, still learning the house rules. Billy is a young lurcher pup who is currently 5 months old. Billy’s mother was rescued off the streets in Ireland when heavily pregnant, and Billy was born there before coming to Kerry Greyhounds UK with his sister Holly to find a home to call his own. Billy is a lovely fawn and white boy with a thin white stripe down his nose, and is currently standing at 22” to the shoulder. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Super friendly, playful, cheeky, fun-loving, social, adorable! Billy is your typical bouncy puppy. He is happy-go-lucky, inquisitive, very friendly and full of beans. He adores everyone he meets as if they are his whole world, and will shower you in kisses if given half the chance. He is super playful, cheeky and very intelligent. This boy is approaching the age now where he is looking for a job and purpose in life, so it would be the perfect time to introduce some fun activities such as agility training or flyball – Billy would love both! Billy is also now starting to get more independent as he heads closer to adolescence. He has an active mind and, if not given a job to do, he will go and find his own fun. This can include digging in the garden and chewing household objects. He can be very easily redirected, however, and actively loves having something to do. As such, he is responsive to training and is a quick learner. Especially if you have tasty treats at hand! ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Learning the rules, almost housetrained, ok to be left, still chews. Billy has been in his foster home for 1 month now and is doing very well, especially considering his young age and the steep learning curve that he’s going through. He is quiet through the night and his housetraining is coming along nicely – he knows now to ask to go out. He has also been left with just canine company without any hassle. As mentioned, Billy will still chew items in the house if he’s a bit bored, or if he doesn’t yet know that he shouldn’t. He is easily redirected and will stop if told, and teaching him that all household items are off the menu is a gradual work in progress that may need to be continued in his future home. Billy is still learning the do’s and don’ts of a home, but he is a young dog with fantastic potential to be whatever kind of dog you ask of him. Being a young puppy, Billy is still very flexible and adaptable to any type of home. He would love canine company, but could also be very happy as an only dog provided he wasn’t left for very long periods of time. He is very active and clever so would relish having a job and focus in life, even if its just fetching a ball for fun! Billy would be a great puppy for children over the age of 8 as he is eager to learn tricks and loves to play. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Ok to live with dogs, kids, cats and small furries. Social and playful. Billy is happily sharing his foster home with a menagerie of animals including 4 dogs, 2 gerbils, 2 rats, 3 chickens and his sister Holly! He gets on excellently with other dogs and takes a telling off very well. His sister is a naturally shy, gentle girl and because of that, Billy can sometimes get a bit rough when playing with her, but this has not been a problem with the other dogs he has met and interacted with. Billy would therefore be a great playmate for another dog who likes a bit of rough ‘n’ tumble but who will tell him enough when they want to stop. When meeting new dogs, Billy can be initially over excited, as expected from a puppy of his age. After he calms down he is great though, very social and happy to interact. Billy would hugely benefit from some puppy socialisation classes so that he can interact with more dogs his own age and learn to curb his occasional verging on the boisterous side with his sister. Billy is not currently living with a cat, but he has been cat tested and got on great with his feline friend. Because he is very playful, he might do best with a cat who would tell him to back off if they wish, rather than a cat who would always flee and so encourage him to chase. There is no malice at all in Billy, but he might see a cat running away as an invitation to be played with! If the cat stands their ground, Billy will leave them be. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Social, inquisitive, travels well. Sometimes pulls on lead. Billy LOVES getting out and exploring the world, as every young puppy should. His lead training is a work in progress as he can still pull at times, but he’s making fantastic improvements in this area. He travels well in the car and settles down for long journeys. He is very inquisitive and wants to learn as much about the world around him as possible. He is not fully used to very busy areas and loud traffic such as trucks, but he is getting there. When meeting other people and animals on his outdoor adventures, Billy is great and is a lovely social boy. Given lots of recall work in the home and some time to develop a nice bond with his new owners, Billy is suitable to be let off lead eventually in safe areas away from public roads. ~ Where Am I? ~ Billy is in a foster home in Norfolk, UK. Please note that we only place dogs to cat homes in and closely around the Norfolk area, but if no cats are involved we can rehome to anywhere in the UK provided you can travel to meet him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Billy is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. He is not yet neutered due to his age, and an agreement will be required to get him once he has reached an age safe to do so. We can discuss this in more detail upon your enquiry. If you are interested in adopting Billy, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. LUCY **UPDATED: JANUARY 2013** Location: Kennels in Suffolk, UK. Lucy would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home. Key Points: Very loving little poppet, good for first time hound owner, walks to heel, good traveller, dog savvy. Dear Lucy is a 2 year old greyhound girl who was unwanted by her previous owner and had been advertised online as ‘free to a good home’. Luckily she has truly fallen on her feet now, with a guarantee of finding a lovely loving home. Lucy is a little black girl, dainty and cute as a button with a black coat and white tips. She is 23” to the shoulder and can curl up very small indeed! Once she gets a healthy shine back to her coat she’ll be a truly gorgeous little girl. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Super loving, friendly, social, undemanding, quiet, gentle. Lucy is an absolute dote! She is super gentle, affectionate, loves people and is really friendly in such a sweet way. She doesn’t rush up and demand attention, but she craves it and soaks up any fuss given to her. This girl is going to be so happy once she’s in a home environment surrounded by people and love. Lucy would be a fantastic choice for a first time greyhound owner. She has no real faults to speak of and would teach you all about the perks of having a greyhound as a pet. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet home savvy. Lucy has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. Lucy is a very laid back, low-maintenance girl by nature so we don’t expect the transition from kennels to house to be overwhelming. The biggest problem might be getting her up in the mornings! ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Great with other dogs of all sizes. Lucy has been excellent with all the other dogs she has met, regardless of size and shape. She would do very well as a companion for another dog and would slot nicely into a pack. She enjoys canine company and is sure to play more once she’s in a home environment and allowed to express her puppyish side. Lucy is not suitable to live with cats. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, very social, calm, settles well in car. Lucy walks excellently on the lead and is also a great traveller. In fact she loves the car and usually falls right to sleep! Like most greyhounds, Lucy will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area a few times a week. Lucy might enjoy a few mad moments of zooming around the garden, but will then happily flop out on the sofa for a good long snooze. She is very much a no-bother sort of dog. She will need some recall training before she can be let offlead, but this is very doable once a bond has been formed with her new parents. ~ Lucy is currently being kennelled in Suffolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to her to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Lucy is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She will be neutered before going to her new home. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Lucy, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. TJ **UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. TJ would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Super boy with few faults, home savvy, excellent with all other dogs, young and active. Please say hi to TJ, a 1 year old saluki lurcher boy rescued off the streets in Ireland. TJ is a beautiful young dog, both inside and out. He has a fabulous brindle coat with big floppy ears and an intelligent, knowing expression. He is about 24” to the shoulder but 90% of this is leg and he runs like the wind. This dog is going to make a very lucky someone extremely happy! ~ Personality ~ Generally: Friendly, affectionate, confident, loving, loyal, sociable, intelligent. TJ is a super little man, the perfect mix of goof, loyalty, intelligence and friendly confidence. He is super affectionate, truly loves his people, and adores the company of all other dogs. He is very intelligent, always thinking, and would do great at something active like agility. TJ is also very biddable, considering his mix, and gladly takes direction. He could slot right in to a range of home types and has oodles of potential to become whatever kind of dog is desired. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Home savvy, isn’t overly destructive, ok to be left with canine company. TJ has been in a foster home for 5 weeks, though unfortunately is currently in kennels again. During his stay in his foster home, TJ was a very low maintenance house guest who quickly learned the house rules and was very good considering he’s still rather young. Though he started off stealing food from the table tops, once told no he accepted the boundaries and didn’t try again. He was quiet through the night and slept with his 4 other canine foster brothers and sisters. TJ was still getting the hang of housetraining and used newspapers at night when he couldn’t quite hold it. There was also a teenager and a 10 year old child in his foster home and TJ was just fabulous around them both, very affectionate and cuddly but not overly boisterous. TJ is a young, playful dog and loves having other likeminded dogs to romp around with. He loves playing chase, though is himself usually uncatchable! He has no issues sharing his personal space and belongings with other dogs, and is a very low-hassle dog as long as he has another dog or two to burn off that youthful energy. Because TJ has already spent some time in a home, the transition from where he currently is in kennels to his new home shouldn’t take him long at all. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very sociable, loves other dogs, not yet cat tested. TJ is absolutely excellent with other dogs regardless of size or temperament. He takes a telling off nicely and is respectful of other dogs that grumble at him. He really really loves playing with doggie friends and has a healthy confidence when making new friends. TJ has not been tested with cats, but could possibly be cat trainable. This will be tested in the near future. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Travels well, suitable to be let offlead, pulls slightly on lead. TJ absolutely lives for his walks. They are one of the highlights of his day. He travels great in the car and settles very well, though can pull a bit on the lead. This is especially true near the start of the walk when he is still excited, but after he calms down he is better and attentive to your corrections. The best time to lead train him is right after he’s had a mad offlead sprint, as he can listen much better with all that excess energy burned off. TJ had excellent recall with his previous foster parents, and so he will be suitable to be let offlead away from any roads with his new owners after they spend a few weeks building a bond with him and doing some at-home recall work so he recognises their voices. He is very friendly with all other dogs, though might be tempted to chase any small furry he meets. ~ Where Am I? ~ TJ is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ TJ is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. He will be neutered before going to his new home. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us. If you are interested in adopting or fostering TJ, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. There are application forms for both adopting and fostering TJ, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. KING **UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. King would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Very sweet, loving, timid, sensitive, walks to heel, good with all other dogs. Dear King is a lovely ex-racing greyhound who wasn’t fast enough for his previous owners. Though just 2 years of age, King was due to be put to sleep if Kerry Greyhounds UK didn’t offer him a space. We are certain that this boy will never look back once he has gotten himself a home to call his own. King is a gorgeous leggy brindle boy with truly beautiful markings and a very soft, loving expression. In short, he’s a total heartthrob! ~ Personality ~ Generally: Sweet, bit shy, very loving, gentle, calm. King is a very sweet, gentle boy who is still learning that people can give affection simply because they want to. He can be a bit timid at times and this leads him to be reserved with strangers, but once he knows you, you have a gorgeously affectionate friend for life. King is a real sweetheart who just wants to be good and be loved. He doesn’t like to cause trouble and wants to get on with everyone. It’s going to be a pure delight seeing this boy open up once finally out of kennels and in a loving home. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet home experienced. King has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. We can't wait for this currently quiet boy to discover the joys of toys and open up in himself. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Great with other dogs of all sizes, would be best homed with another dog(s). King is very good with other dogs and is a lot more comfortable when he has another canine buddy to fall back on. He would as such benefit hugely from having another already established dog(s) in his home to show him the ropes and help him settle. King is very mannered with other dogs and loves to play if they are up for it. He is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks well, wee bit timid, travels ok. Like most greyhounds, King is a bit of a couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week once a bond has been formed with his new owners. King walks well on the lead though sudden noises can frighten him. Likewise he travels very well once in the car, but can be frightened of getting in and out. We expect this timid behaviour will lessen once King is in a stable home environment where his confidence can be improved. He just needs to learn that he can trust people not to harm him. ~ King is currently in kennels in Norfolk. SUZIE **UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Sweet, sensitive, home-ready, good with dogs, shy of strangers. Sweet Suzie is a special little girl who was saved in the nick of time from being sold on as a brood bitch. She is a medium sized, 8 year old ex-racing greyhound who could do with a bit of TLC to get some healthy shine back into her dull coat. She also has many scars that tell of a harsh past, but is now healthy and content. This very gentle, sensitive girl deserves to find a soft sofa to call her own, and not continue the life of kennelled breeding machine. Thankfully, she now has her chance. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Sensitive and in-tune with her humans. Shy with strangers. Suzie really is a special little lady. She has successfully won the adoration of everyone who has spent any time with her, and has left a trail of broken hearts on her way to Kerry Greyhounds UK. She is a super gentle, very affectionate little girl who loves to be involved in whatever her family are doing. She is going to make a very loving and loyal companion. Despite her past, she is willing to learn to trust again and wants very much to receive and give affection. She very much wants to do what is asked of her, and to be a good girl. Suzie is a sensitive, intuitive girl who is very good at picking things up. She is nervous towards people she has not met before, especially men, but makes great attempts to build up the courage to meet strangers. She tries so very hard to please her ‘parents’. Sudden movements from unfamiliar people will make her jump, but give her just a bit of time and calmness and she will venture forth to make friends. Once she knows you, you most definitely have a true friend for life. This girl is beautifully affectionate and loving with those she knows, and actively wants to be loved and accepted by those around her. Suzie has not yet started to play with toys, but we know she has a playful side just waiting to show itself. She will play a bit with other dogs, but acts as though this is a new experience for her. This should develop nicely with time and encouragement. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: home savvy. Suzie has spent all her life so far in kennels, but you would not know this to look at her now! She has settled into the home life as though she has always been there, and gets on splendidly with her foster parents. Again, this wee lady will bend over backwards to do what is asked of her and she is very eager to learn and to please. Raised voices would greatly frighten Suzie, and are completely unnecessary as she is such a gem – she never puts a foot wrong. She is housetrained, quiet as a mouse, not destructive, doesn’t steal food and has been left with just other dogs for company with no issues at all. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Excellent with other medium-large sized dogs. Has not seen small dogs yet. Suzie is very well behaved with other dogs though has not been specifically introduced to small dog breeds yet. This will be carried out prior to adoption. She is a very calm, gentle girl who has a playful side just waiting to come out. She is extremely non-confrontational and will just back off if another dog is being loud, overly boisterous or is uncomfortable with her presence. In her foster home, she looks to her foster hounds for guidance and reassurance if she becomes stressed. As such, going to a home with another chilled out, confident dog would be a huge benefit to her. She would also slot excellently into an existing pack as she is very much a get-along-with-everyone kind of hound. She has shared her foster home with a cat previously, though they did not spend much time in the same room. This would need to be tested more thoroughly before she is deemed as completely suitable to live with cats. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Perfect on lead, shy of strangers, especially if being loud/in a group. Little Suzie walks like a gem on the lead, again behaving impeccably as she loves to please. She will keep pace with you and is happy to go at whatever speed you choose. In keeping with her current nervousness of unfamiliar people, she will be very friendly and social with other dogs but shy of their owners until she knows them. She is nervous of strangers and frightened of groups of people being loud or boisterous. Her foster parents are walking her in busy areas frequently to get her over this hump in her confidence, and this gentle and gradual socialisation will need to be continued by her forever family. Suzie also loves riding in the car and settles very quickly, seeming to really enjoy the motion. Like most greyhounds, Suzie is all about her home comforts and so will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Because she can become frightened and her first choice is to flee, Suzie needs to form a bond with her new owners and have some recall work before she can be let offlead in unsecured areas. With some time and recall training, this is entirely possible, just not initially due to her flight response. ~ Where Can I Live? ~ This little mite has had a hard 8 years and now needs a relatively quiet home to retire to and relax in. She requires owners that will be willing to continue to help her gain confidence in the outside world, but who will also let her continue at her own pace and not push her. Most importantly, Suzie needs love and TLC and to be deeply included in the family and its activities. She truly loves her people and her furry siblings, and gives 200% of herself at all times. She deserves to spend the rest of her life with the nicest of creature comforts in a safe, stable, trustful environment. She will form an extremely strong bond with whomever gives her the space on her sofa, and is going to be a very special hound for someone. ~ Where Am I? ~ Suzie is currently in a foster home in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Suzie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Suzie, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected]. Alternatively you can speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. There is an application form for adopting from us, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. OISIN **UPDATED: DECEMBER 2012** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Oisin would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Soft & loving, quiet boy, walks to heel, requires a relatively quiet home, suitable to live as a single dog. Oisin (Osheen) is an 8 year old Irish ex-racing greyhound who is very much looking for some love and TLC after spending all his life so far in racing kennels. Oisin is a gorgeous big boy with a white and blue patched coat, and the softest, prettiest face you could ask for. One look into his big chocolate brown eyes and we guarantee your heart will be melted! ~ Personality ~ Generally: Loving, quiet, calm, soft, affectionate, very much content with the simple things. Oisin is a really really soft, cuddly dog. He can be a bit unsure of strangers, especially men, but once he knows you he is a firm friend for life. Oisin doesn’t ask for much of anything, and is content to just enjoy any comforts offered him. 8 years is a very long time to spend in kennels, so right now even a duvet is an amazing luxury for this beautiful boy. Oisin really loves getting head rubs and chin scratches, but he doesn’t pester or ask for lots of attention. He will lovingly soak up any affection he gets, but is content with whatever he gets. This boy is so incredibly easy to keep happy, and we very much hope he doesn’t have to wait too long for a forever home to call his own. ~ Medical Issues ~ Oisin is in need of a dental and may have some teeth extracted. This will be carried out soon and he will be neutered at the same time, then completely ready for rehoming. Please don’t delay in contacting us if you can offer this gorgeous lad a space on your sofa, however, as we would dearly love to see him out of kennels sooner rather than later. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet home savvy. Would do best in a quiet home, suitable to be an only dog. Oisin has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Given Oisin’s love for comfort and warmth, he is going to take to the home life like a duck to water. It’s often amazing how fast these dogs settle in and quickly learn the art of sleeping in on Sundays! Because Oisin is now 8 and clearly yearns for a quiet life, we would prefer to see him in a home without young children or overly playful dogs. Oisin would be a fantastic dog for a mature, moderately active home who would take him on daily walks but leave him snooze on soft beds and infront of warm fires for the rest of the time. This is all Oisin asks for. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Nervous of unfamiliar dogs, good once he knows them. Oisin has sadly been attacked by another dog in the past (a boxer x), and he has remained rather traumatised by this event. He enjoys the company of other dogs that he trusts, but meeting new dogs can be unnerving for him, making him tense. He needs very gentle, patient introductions that don’t push him past what he’s able to cope with. With time and lots of repetition with calm dogs, Oisin will gain in confidence and learn that not all dogs are going to attack him, but this is something that will need to be continued with his new owners. Provided he had lots of human interaction, Oisin would be suitable to live as a single dog, and may be quite happy as such. He is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Loves walks, keeps to heel, travels well. Like most greyhounds, Oisin is a complete couch potato in the making and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He would need to be let offlead in secure areas away from public roads, and only after a sufficient bond has formed with his new owners so that he has developed recall. Oisin walks like a total dream on the lead, you often forget that he’s even there! He settles well in the car and is used to travelling. ~ Oisin is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Oisin is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. He will be neutered before going to his new home. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Oisin, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Oisin, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process.
