  1. When Philip took Candy for her evening walk, she was fine no hobbling at all so whatever it was seems to have sorted itself. Our dobe Saphyre was brilliant with everything except having her nails cut, three people had to pin her down so one could cut them. In the vets, however, Julie (vet) said paw,Saphyre and the darling dog meekly lifted each foot to be done. Dogs!
  2. My day didnt start well, I put a load of washing on, then when it got to the rinse stage I realised water was pouring out of the cupboard under sink! Some of the pipework had come apart. Philip got it back together and I spent ages mopping up and cursing quietly as I wasn't feeling too well anyway and that really didn't help things! Glad Cleo is back to normal and Wispa managed a walk. I agree Eve, it's miserable when all it seems to do is rain! Candy has either hurt her knee or her paw, she keeps holding her foot up and Philip says she's hobbling on her walk, but the little horror won't let us look at her paw. She's never liked being brushed, or handled in an "examining" sort of way. If it doesn't sort itself out in a day or two, back to the vets. That won't please her!
  3. There can't be any devotees around here, no fireworks at all. The rain might have something to do with it too.
  4. So sorry to hear that Eve, but we were watching a medical programme the other night and they operated on a man, expecting to find two tumours on his liver which turned out to be four and took I think it was 60% of his liver away so something can be done, hopefully.
  5. It just comes down to saving money..it's easier to turn the hard shoulder into an active lane, than to have to build another lane completely. They need to increase the volume of traffic that can be shifted and to hell with safety, it seems to me.
  6. Will do, Eve. Sounds as if that hospital was a nasty experience altogether, they told her she could have a shower, then she found the water was cold, and there no towels to dry on, they gave her two pillowslips instead. I'm so glad Philip is still working from home, it's been very foggy the past two morning and looks to be the same tomorrow, I'd hate to think he was driving up the motorway in it. Speaking of motorways, I see the Transport department in its wisdom is going to put in 100 odd more miles of smart motorway. This despite every motoring organisation, all the rescue services and the general public saying they are dangerous. Oh and they are going to be putting the refuges further apart. That makes a lot of sense..not.
  7. I'm trying to keep ahead with the Tesco orders, delivery slots are crammed but I've got something for this coming week and the next. Just have to remember to keep adding to them, as I've only put on enough to cover the minimum charge. Anyone else being following Snow's woes (oh, it rhymes!) on FB? She's been really ill, hopefully on the mend now. Hope Yantan and Ruby are both ok, I'll never know as Yantan has vanished from here and my FB.
  8. I remember owning posh wellies, Owl, Aigle if I recall. Sadly one of our dobes decided they would look much better with the toes chewed out. Peep toe wellies aren't really much use! Which brand are yours? Hopefully not Hunters, apparently they are now made in China and not a patch on how they used to be. So pleased that dog has been found safe, but read about another who wasn't so lucky, run over after being on the run for several days. The new oncologist was very pleasant, he assured me that any meds would be my choice completely and chemo will be a very last resort as, to quote, it makes people feel so ill it really has to be worth it. Seems the medical profession are admitting now that their wonderful drugs do have a nasty side to them!
  9. Glad the boiler is sorted Eve. Is your eye ok now? Sounds like world war 3 out here too, Philip has taken Candy out for her evening walk regardless. She doesn't bat an eyelid at the noise, just looks up if there are pretty ones! Couldn't be more different to Dylan, he was terrified of any loud bangs. Hope Owl's Wispa is still not reacting to any bangs that might be going on her way. I've got an appointment with the new oncologist tomorrow, it's going to be interesting to see how much he has checked out of my notes. I'm still sulking that Virgil has gone, best onc ever and they let him go!
  10. Hopefully it'll be an easy repair Eve, not the time to be without your boiler! That's great about Wispa Owl, especially as you weren't able to escape to a quiet area.
  11. Owl, very silly thing, I rushed through a doorway as I could hear the phone ringing , had my hand on the doorframe and managed to move most of my fingers forward and leave my little finger behind, so to speak. Really wrenched it, I thought I'd broken something at first. Now the whole of the back of my hand has swollen up, I can't bend my finger or move it sideways so I've taped it to its neighbour. Of course it's my left hand, the side I'm not meant to injure because of my lymphodema! Oh well, worse things happen at sea, as they say.
  12. Owl, your friend is very lucky to have people who care about her. I hope the medication does the trick and she doesn't have any further problem. That's pricey, Jazz. I'm sure it can't cost that much to produce the blinking stuff! More fireworks round here too, it must cost people a fortune, they are the big ones and they aren't cheap. It's not easy touch typing with your little finger out of commission!
  13. Can't believe it's November already! The sun has actually come out here, for how long, who knows? My daughter says if she'd known they would be home for three weeks then facing another lockdown, they'd have stayed put in Greece. I did point out that then they could be facing earthquakes!
  14. Wow! it's like the wild west, Owl! Glad the cattle were safely contained, with no injuries to man (or woman) or beast! I'm already reading about far too many dogs spooked and running from fireworks, and it's not even Bonfire Night yet. I really think it's time they were banned altogether unless on official displays.
  15. Bubblewrap, Jazz. That's the way to go. Poured earlier then stopped, so Philip took Candy out for a walk, He got halfway round then of course, it poured again! Luckily she doesn't mind the rain and he had his waterproofs on. Sun is out now, of course. I had a memory on my FB of five years ago, saying it was Rosie our cavalier's 7th birthday, and we should have known better than to get a dog born at Halloween! can't believe its four years already that we lost her so suddenly but taking the view that every cloud has a silver lining, if we hadn't lost her we'd never have got Candy. Rose was a little horror when she wanted to be, but Candy hasn't a bad bone in her body. The Six Nations rugby has recommenced after a long break due to Covid so Philip will be watching Italy v England in a bit. Apparently we should win.. but we all know what should happen and what does aren't always the same! Eve and blackmagic, you both being Scottish and pardon me straying into the realms of politics, but I don't understand Nicola Sturgeons thought process. She wants Scotland to be independent, of England if not Europe, but she's demanding that England should give her more money because of the pandemic. Doesn't it occur to her that if she gets the independence she craves, there won't be ANY money from us, or does she fondly imagine we'll keep giving it to her? I see the temperature in our area is meant to be down to 8 on Tuesday. Better get my bigger jumpers out!
  16. Brilliant news, Owl! My son in law's best friend had a stroke at the young age of 51, about four years ago now. He has never recovered the use of his left side at all, poor chap.
  17. I only really like chicken, but Philip likes anything and everything, maybe I ought to get a slow cooker. Sorry to hear that, Owl. Hope she doesn't catch Covid whilst she's in there, they have experienced a jump in numbers recently.
  18. My only bit of excitement for the day was going to the surgery to have a blood test for my thyroid function. It's been raining here for most of the day too, I've cleared out some clothes to take to the charity shop when I get round to it. Mostly posh frocks that I'm never going to have the chance to wear again. Pie sounds lovely Eve, do you use your slow cooker much? My daughter has one but I think it was a five minute wonder, along with her coffee maker.
  19. I watched the first ten minutes or so Owl then recorded the rest. I saw enough to put me right off the idea of the op even if I found anyone willing to go ahead! It's an 8 to 9 hour op, they have to stop the heart and put your blood through a machine to keep you alive, then they cut out various bits and replace them with plastic. It has a high risk of death, paralysis or stroke. As the alternative is it will suddenly burst and you are dead in minutes, I think I prefer that option! Glad you had a better day, hope tomorrow you'll feel as good.
  20. Hope all goes well tomorrow Jazz, at least you are seeing someone in person, and not the dreaded and useless phone consultations. Must watch Surgeons on the Edge of Life tonight, they are operating on a woman with an aortic aneurysm, which is what I've got and they won't touch! I have a phone consultation with someone at the end of November, would it be unkind of me to mention the programme and say obviously some surgeons have more skill than others? Um..yes it probably would!
  21. Sorry to hear that Owl. I'm sure you're right about the CF, but is there anywhere close to you that you can get a covid test, just to be certain? Apparently the accepted symptoms aren't always the only ones.
  22. My son texted me at about 8.30 to see if I was up, which I was, so we had a video chat for a while, which was lovely. Abby, my grand daughter, was close to her daddy as usual but her twin Jamie dashed up long enough to tell me he was playing his car game and then vanished again. I felt honoured he even stopped long enough to say hello! Philip developed a migraine not long after breakfast so he retired back to bed. I went to Tesco..took one look at the queue waiting to go in and aborted the mission and headed to Aldi instead! Luckily they are pretty close to one another so it didn't take me out of my way. Got back and he tottered back up and we watched the bikes we'd recorded. Other than that, didn't do a lot, so another nothing sort of day apart from seeing Mark and the twins.
  23. Lovely for your friend to have a new companion in his old age, Owl. They can dodder on together (assuming he isn't the still running marathons type of older man!) I've lost interest in Strictly, don't know most of the dancers any more and apart from a couple, the celebrities are nobodies so far as I'm concerned. We recorded The Greatest Showman the other night so we'll watch that.
  24. Philip is having a flu jab this morning. I was offered one, but I don't want it. My daughter and her husband might be popping round this morning...oh hang on they can't can they, we are in tier 2 now. Umm. Since my daughter is about as good at following rules as I am, they probably will, just hope none of our neighbours rats on us. For anyone who is thinking isn't that rather rash, her husband has just been tested for another clinical trial (he has done several) and the first thing they do is a Covid test for both of them, both negative and so if anyone is risking their health it's them, in case they get whatever Philip had. Moto GP on tv tomorrow so we'll be watching that, other than that not doing much, especially as it's meant to be heavy rain coming in at lunch time.
  25. Very sensible to recognise your limits and rest Owl, enjoy your couch potato day. It's meant to be sunny on Sunday, so with recharged batteries you'll be good to go. Great that Olly was caught at last, wonder if his wandering has cured him of itchy feet and he'll be happy to stay at home now? Do you have to buy new ones Jazz? Can't you sell it sold as seen? Eve, my hair needs cutting, it's down on my shoulders now. Not the thing for a lady of a certain age, unless you're Joanna Lumley! Philip did offer to cut it but as he was picking up the dog clippers, I declined!
