  1. My Belgian Shepherd had a tie-back when she was about six, and she lasted until she was nine. She would not have survived without it, so I didn't have a choice. The most difficult part was that she wasn't allowed long walks or to chase after a stick anymore, and felt the heat a lot so we had to be aware of that, and allow her to lie on the cold floor in the garage when she became distressed. On one occasion she collapsed and had to have an icy enema to cool her core temperature fast. Despite this I would make the same choice again as we did have three more years with our gorgeous girl.

Update on Ben Went to visit the two 'Old Boys' yesterday. Don says that Ben has transformed his life. Ben is such a gentle, undemanding dog, and their personalities complement each other! Ben had a visit to the vet's because he was showing signs of being in pain. he is now on Arthritis tablets, and is much better. I have put some pictures on Photobucket, but can't get any further!
  4. Going to see the 'Old Boys' on Saturday. (M25 Leatherhead-M4 to near Swindon) Will leave 8.30ish, and will be coming back early to mid afternoon, so if anyone needs one or two Oldies (or Youngies ) moved and can tie in, I have an empty boot.(Hatchback) Will have Grandchildren in the car!
  5. Only just seen this thread. How lovely! I feel all warm and huggy! So pleased for you all!

    Too Old?

Don was very shaken recently, when he received a visit from the RSPCA! Someone had reported him for keeping Ben in the garden or locked in the shed! As Ben was sitting with him at the time, it was easy to disprove that! Don then showed the Inspector Ben's bed next to his own in the bedroom, his bed in the sitting room, and his cosy bed in the heated shed which he uses when Don is working on his doll's houses! The Inspector was very satisfied that Ben was well looked after, Don had even refused to go to his family at Christmas because he didn't want to disrupt Ben's routine! Nevertheless the visit left Don feeling quite shaken for a while! Ben is Don's best friend, the best thing that has happened to him for a very long time!
  7. So sad for you! I lost a sweet little girl after only having her for three weeks earlier this year, and it is soooo painful! BUT,........you must remember that Mary-Ann probably had the BEST time in her whole life in the short time she had with you! She was warm, loved and SAFE! God Bless
  8. I so hope that this dear oldie gets to enjoy a lot longer with you.
  9. It seems so sad that Tommy only experienced happiness for such a short time, but thanks to the rescue and fosterer and especially to his final owner, he did know what it was to be loved and cared for. He looked such a wonderful old man!

Don has bought Ben a feeding stand and he tells me it has made life easier for both of them as they don't need to bend so low! Oh and Ben has now moved into the bedroom to sleep!

My Father-in-Law is 'over-the-moon'! He says that if there were a thousand dogs to choose from, Ben would be the one! Ben slept all night in his bed, went out for a wee etc and went back to bed again while Don had a cup of tea! He is eating well, has had a walk and didn't pull at all, and best of all is loving and affectionate to Don! Don says that Ben is the best thing that has happened to him for a VERY long time, and has transformed his life!

I've just spoken to Don. Ben has had a good sniff all over the house, and garden, has had his meal plus several treats and is now fast asleep in his bed in the lounge with Don. Result!
