  1. Blackmagic what a bargain! I love it when I find anything like that. I hope you have a lovely reunion with your sister. It will be strange going back to your home after all this time but I hope it goes well and you don't find it too upsetting. It's great your son will be there with you. Suzeanna we are hoping your appointment goes well and if treatment is needed it will be radiotherapy and not chemo. I think it's going to be a nice day today but we won't be sitting out as there are too many tourists staying on our street and walking past. I wish we had a back garden rather than a front garden. Watching the town centre webcams there is little concession being made by people wandering up and down there to social distancing. The town council have tried to encourage shoppers to wear masks in the shops but very few bother. As my friend said the other day "you can take precautions yourself but you can't predict what others are going to do and so many are acting like there's no longer any such thing as Covid-19. It's scary out there".
  2. I save my vouchers/points from the supermarkets to pay for Christmas grocery shop. Don't read this next bit if you are eating! Poor Ruby was trying to eat some lunch when I started coughing because of the chest infection and got some gunk up which I had to spit in a tissue. It put her right off. Well let's be honest - it would put anyone off! I'm on steroids and a further course of antibiotics so hope this clears it this time. You have reached safety now!
  3. Griff Deags would love it up here then. I could introduce her to all of those! You'll have to bring the dogs up sometime and I will sort a tour where you can take it easy in the car but have stop offs for hello's to the farm animals. Henry & May were fascinated by sheep having come from inner city London. Suzeanna shame it got cloudy and rained but I'll bet it was nice to have a change. Inexperienced fell walkers get caught out here lots by not accounting for weather changes the higher they get up the fells. Well a cheque allows your son to get what he really wants. I actually prefer that which is why I often end up with Amazon gift cards. It's great because if I fancy a book or face cream or a gadget - or whatever - I just order it thanks to the generosity of friends and family. I always let them know what my latest purchase is.
  4. I like that Owl. Nice catch by who ever spotted the car. Griff those 2 nasty bullies need bringing to book. Suzeanna enjoy your day out in the Peaks. I hope the nice weather keeps up so you can admire the views. I'm going to make a roast chicken dinner today and hope Ruby is up to eating it. She is still on her anti-sickness medication and so far so good as she's been eating small amounts fairly frequently. She starts the immune boosting injections today that work on her bone marrow. This results in her bones hurting to the point that moving is hard. However this shows that the injections are working. She has 7 days of jabs following each chemo session.
  5. Suzeanna if you Google for beer gifts or whatever your son's favourite tipple is you will find there are quite a few online suppliers who will send their products direct to him.
  6. Yes what Suzeanna says above Eve. Ruby's feeling rubbish this morning. It's awful watching her go through this. I hope other poorly people are doing ok and all appointments go well. Sainsbury's are due to deliver anytime now so I'll go and glove and mask up and top of with a visor.
  7. I couldn't get on before as I'm on a new phone and have had to sign in to everything and of course had a hunt for some of my passwords. Eve I have a problem with 2nd home owners getting the grants when some of them refused to refund holidaymakers until TPTB took action and forced them too. Also many of them haven't paid their cleaners anything. There are some decent one's that didn't think twice and gave refunds and carried on paying their cleaners and I applaud them. Talking of refunds we still haven't had ours from the company we booked our flights and QM2 through 😒 It's a lot of money and we could do with it now as we have a number of unexpected expenses. Ruby dreads these chemo sessions. It hits her almost right away and she does not enjoy the car trip home. She'll have a not very pleasant 10 days, give or take, now.
  8. I saw that about the young mum who died from bowel cancer as did Ruby. Although it's a horrible process she's glad she's getting her treatment. Griff hopefully there's just one more to go after tomorrow's session. Suzeanna yes I need a different type of antibiotics - or at least that was the case last time. I've got a phone appointment with a GP later today. We are waiting for our soup, rolls and new phones to arrive. We usually get the shop to transfer our info from old phones to new but will have to do it ourselves this time. I anticipate a lot of swearing. Don't be fooled by the tourist industry claims about being desperate for business. They've all had handsome payouts from the government. 2nd home owners who holiday let their 2nd and sometimes 3rd and 4th homes have recieved £10,000 per property to cover their losses.
  9. Our garden is looking tidy once more and free of weeds as our friend came round and sorted it out. I've finished my course of antibiotics but still have the chest infection. Just like last time! I'll ring our medical centre tomorrow. Ruby's 3rd round of chemo is on Wednesday. She's come to dread it and the 10 days or so following. We are having a soup & roll delivery tomorrow from a local shop whilst Ruby is able to enjoy it.
  10. I hope you'll have no lasting effects from the wasp stings Owl. According to my DNA test the results show I have ethnicity of 25% from Scotland/Ireland, 73% England/Wales & north western Europe and 2% Germanic Europe. I have seen American's, with whom I share DNA, having more English ethnicity than me! Ruby's ethnicity is 48% from Scotland/Ireland, 43% England/Wales & north western Europe, 7% Norway and 2% Germanic Europe. No one is pure anything.
  11. Come to the other side Eve then you'll be closer. It's quite a trip from here to Berwick-on-Tweed. People in Dumfries and Galloway frequently cross the border for shopping as Carlisle is their nearest big city. There are some fabulous villages around the coast between Stranraer and Dumfries and the beaches are lovely. They have the wonderful Wigtown Book Festival too, second only to Hay, and Wigtown is known as "book town". I can bring you Cumberland sausage from your favourite maker every time I pop to see you too!
  12. A hairdresser would have to have bloody long arms to stay 6ft back 😂😂 I've been to Ruby's hairdressers today. I've ended up with a short back and sides. Not what I asked for therefore I didn't leave a tip 😂
  13. I'm ok eating stuff I've bought in date going out of date but I don't want to buy out of date stuff if that makes sense. I found a Muellers rice pud pot in the back of the fridge the other day. It was 4 days past its sell by but was perfectly alright. Had it been meat I wouldn't have chanced it though. Very glad to read Wispa is back to her version of normal Owl.
  14. I'm signed up to Approved Foods and gets lots of notifications but I'm not totally confident about ordering. I hope your stuff is all good and with decent sell-by dates Owl 👍
  15. Archie slept a lot in his old age and I often had to wake him up to remind him to eat something - he always was a grazer - and then take him out in the garden for a piddle. I've phoned an order into our local butchers and paid over the phone too. My friend is going to pick the order up when she goes to collect her own this afternoon. She'll bring it round and collect 2 bags of BBQ charcoal I got for her of one of our neighbours who makes it himself. It's all done at a very safe distance and is now a well rehearsed routine 👍
  16. What a complete arse of a year it's been. We don't get to go out until the end of September or early October but it is what it is. I think it could well be mayhem in some pubs. Can you imagine drunken people sticking to the rules and social distancing? It'll be like herding cats. Griff I'm glad to hear you plan to wait for it to settle down before going 👍
  17. If folk living here didn't use their mobility scooters in the rain they wouldn't go out much! Or is that the reason the local Fiat dealers set up as a mobility scooter sales & service outlet?? 😂😂😂 Our builders have been and found a missing slate which has now been replaced. If we still have a leak they'll come back. One of my brothers has emphysema and his GP suspects he has contracted Covid-19. He was getting tested yesterday.
  18. Ooooh an electric scooter Suzeanne, so exciting. I'm getting one as soon as I need one. I think you should get some bike leathers and be a disgraceful granny 👍 I used to often meet an old work colleague on his mobility scooter with his little dog at his feet. When they got to where the dog could safely alight for a little bimble he did. They had a big see thro cape for when it rained and on those days his dog usually refused to get off the scooter. I hope Candy takes to it. 2 biker chicks together 👍💕 Joy of joys we've got a leak somewhere on the roof line which is dripping into Ruby's bedroom. We've called our builders who will come sometime this week to see what's what. They know they can't come in so I've sent them photos of the inside. I got a phone consult with my doctor this morning and I'm going back on antibiotics for yet another chest infection. That's the 3rd one in 8 months 🙄
  19. I hope you have or had success with the swan Owl. It's chucking it down here and the temperature has dropped significantly. I hope everyone & their pets are well.
  20. Oh dear Owl, I am sorry to read that. We will be deluged from next Saturday with people coming here from all over the UK. We have 14 holiday cottages on our street. Different people every week, week after week. The possibilities for the transfer of Covid-19 and then it being taken back to all parts of the country must be a risk. We are not looking forward to it at all particularly with Ruby being so vulnerable.
  21. Happy Birhday Merlin ❤ We have a hedgehog that has a run right across all the gardens of this row. Our next-door-but-one neighbour, Mandy who works at our vets, is the local go-to expert for all things hedgie. She rehabilitates injured or sick hedgehogs and lost or orphaned baby hogs. Anyway the resident hog waits outside her front door every night at dusk for his dinner which she provides. I was out in the garden taking the air a few weeks back and could hear Mandy chatting away to him when she brought his meal out. As regards the idiots both on beaches and elsewhere and on social media it just goes to show that you cannot cure stupid. It is however rather alarming just how many there are 😮☹ Black magic I'm very glad you managed to get a car you like. I hope you have many happy miles of motoring in it 👍 Owl that is very considerate of you to make that buffer twixt your garden & cemetery.
  22. Suzeanna Jeremy Vine got into trouble over something he said about idiots coming here & trashing the place. However he got so much backlash he peddled it back very quickly and said he hadn't meant it the way it was taken or some such excuse. Can't stand him. We had a little rain early but nothing since and the temperature has gone up since, though nothing like yesterday, but its significantly more humid today. And now I've forgotten what else I was going to say in reply to other posts! It's the weather - that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
  23. What disgusting behaviour by selfish, irresponsible, idiots in Dorset. All these weeks of sacrifice put in jeopardy with every passing day what with protests, street parties and now this on Dorset beaches. 2nd wave here we come.
  24. Eve the heat isn't bothering Ruby at all. In fact she can't keep warm enough! That's chemo for you. She wore a hat all day yesterday and was bundled up with blankets whilst I was, and still am, sitting in front of a fan in a thin short sleeved top and loose cotton trousers. Griff you can't help your mum if she chooses not to either help herself or accept help & advice. Look after yourself mate. I hope everyone manages to stay reasonably cool today.
  25. So sad Owl. Poor little things 😥
