  1. Griff, the subject of barking dogs is a nightmare to deal with - so much to try to work out. Does Laney have the run of the house when you are out? Or certain rooms? Tigger barks at things he sees - children going past, some dogs (not others!), postmen, etc. But if he's in a room with a 'garden' view, he's quiet mostly. I had complaints that Tigger barked "all the time" - so set up a video to record - I spent a lot of time watching back footage of Tigger completed flaked out on the bed, and only the odd occasion when he actually barked - so it can be perception. But if you can record, that might help you understand what the triggers are. If Laney barks when you've left to say "where have you gone", that's a different problem to him seeing things which cause him to bark. Separately ....... it appeared that if I actually wanted a GP at my surgery to see my foot ....... I couldn't be ill until 9th March! So I went up to the Walk in Centre, and coincidentally was seen my someone who trains in a dog class at the same place as me! Anyway, no broken bones, BUT I have damaged all the soft tissues on top of my foot, bruised the bones - and by the time I was seen, it was nicely swollen too. I now need to spent the next three days off work with my foot stuck up in the air, taking anti-inflammatories and pain killers, and alternating hot and cold compresses on it. So, I had to pootle back to work to try to put my desk in order, as this meant I wouldn't be there again until 7th March what with one thing and another, and am now trying to be good. The fact that I am supposedly preparing for an event this weekend involving lots of baking is somewhat unfortunate - now I'm home I can't believe how much more my foot is hurting (probably 'cause I've now given myself 'permission' to hurt), nor the fact that it's hurting in all the places it did when my foot was broken. I'm just having to hope that three days rest will mean I can get back to the baking on Thursday. And if it's still hurty painful then, then I have to go to my GP anyway (probably on April Fools Day if I'm lucky) and go for X-rays. Off to decide whether I need a hot or cold foot now. Oh, and all dosed out on tablets, so I could be up to anything on here!
  2. I've done as you told me. Will update later. Meanwhile. Bother!
  3. Morning. I am currently in a muddled dilemma. My head is full of funerals and inquests and finishing for a holiday (going nowhere) on Thursday night, so loads to do at work, and catering for an event at the weekend ............... and my foot's gone "funny". Probably out of everyone's memory, but I have historically had both my feet operated on - broken, reconstructed and away I go - the second one was probably four/five years ago .......... and I have pains it just like the ones after my operation. I don't know whether to (a) ignore it and hope it will give up (b) get a doctor's appointment which I guess could be any time this year © go to A&E (d) go to the Walk In Drs Centre (e) ........... haven't thought of that one yet. I hoped that when it had had a night's rest it would have settled, but I've had to dig out a pair of walking boots to put go with my suit! I would actually really rather not go to work ...... but at least I'm currently driving an automatic so my foot will get that much rest. Haven't told Mr B either - think he has quite enough on my plate at the moment - also shows how good I am at not letting him notice - unless he's so bad at observing! As I already need extra time off work this week for funeral stuff, I really don't particularly want to have to take time off for Doctors too. Please can someone pass me the "clear brain of fug" pills.
  4. Snow, not sure what sort of lenses you have, but when I moved to varifocal contact lenses it took me a while for them to settle down .......... except they didn't because they were "wrong", and then the next ones were "wrong" and it was the third attempt before I could actually see - oh, and I do actually have complete confidence in my optician! Is it worth asking for them to be checked again? Apologies if you've already talked about this - I'm not caught up at all.
  5. Rufus the Wonderdog and Jacobean - thanks for the replies - that makes much more sense now. Tigger has started the morning by removing from the work surface half a LARGE lamb's liver cake ............... which was intended for putting into the freezer for my event next weekend - planning for which is now becoming complicated by para 1. Thanks Tigger. Although as you are happily burping and you were obviously just checking it was up to standard, I just can't hold it against you.
  6. RMQ. Anyone know anything about interim death certificates? Probably the wrong place to ask the question but I naughtily cannot be bothered to start a thread.
  7. Nope, not me, I'm still all over the place. Wide awake at 2.00 am, pottering around at 2.45 am to see if that would help (!), wide awake again at 5.00 am and gave up. I am constantly feeling in a fog, which is not helping me with any of the 'stuff' that is going on right now. Anyway, anyone who wakes up at 5, and goes back to sleep at 5, is doing just fine as far as I can see.
  8. I seem to have missed something ................
  9. Went back to bed and lay awake until Mr B's alarm went off at 6. Then promptly fell asleep, had two vivid dreams before Mr B brought my mug of tea up. Now I'm awake and trying to wash cushion covers! OK, so who would like batty sleep patterns and dreams next. Highest bidder can make a donation to a Rescue of their choice!
  10. Nige - tht doesn't sound crazy at all - very lovely. Merledogs - I seems to have collected your sleeping patterns (lack of). Would you like them back please. Tigger and Daisy are doing the "Mum's up again so something really must be happening this time" ............ but are really not at all convinced that this is the correct time on a Sunday morning to be awake. Just put my third load of washing in - so that means it will definitely rain today!
  11. for Nige. I will post something on Archie's thread later for Snow - too much for you to take in in one go I'm sure Owl - ditto absolutely everyone else - too much for you to do every day. I'd start by seeing if the GP's surgery can support, if not, ask them for suggestions, if not check out how much it would cost for a carer to go in each night (surely less than the cost of the fuel!), and if all else fails, find a reliable teenager (they do exist!) who would do the job for some pocket money. Just had my one to one at work this morning. "Stuff" has been going on here, but I didn't realise just how much it had affected me until I had successfully negotiated items 1-3 on my list, arrived at number 4, the 'biggy' and promptly just went Not very professional! But I guess my boss does now know how I do feel! Best bruise now resembles a mileage chart - and keeps growing.
  12. JulesB - that sounds exciting - hope it works out HLGS - well done you - what a brillient piece - and excellent publicity Snow - you made me giggle - lots - I fear that will keep coming back to me all day and I will have random fits of giggles at my desk. So pleased OH liked it Merledogs - sorry you didn't get the person you were hoping for I can now play dot to dot for myopics with the bruises on my arm. No need to do that with my leg, it's just A Bruise. Think the arnica helped though - at least my leg isn't hot any more. Off for another fun filled day at work.
  13. Wanders back in. Work c..p. In an effort to take my mind off things by doing houseworky stuff, managed to fall the step ladder. Now on the arnica! Don't suppose it's a cure for work rubbish though. Well done Merleydogs. Clever lady. If we tell you often enough will you believe us?
  14. Well, as reminded by Jacobean, I have been off to check out the website again, and can now enlighten you as to the answers ........... although not necessarily the reasons why! A Classic could be the scene of his triumph. COLT Foot? LEGEND Headline. “Goalkeeper turns ball and saves in tight match”. AVENSIS Academic royalty here is plural. CAMBRIDGE Enjoy .........
  15. Merledogs, you've let me down. Only popping in, so Jacobean, I will go back and check the website again to see if those answers have been posted - the only feedback I have received so far is that something like only five groups in the whole country managed to get all the answers right! Mags - will update soon/later. Off to workies now.
  16. Just because he's deaf doesn't mean he's daft. Tigger showed himself adept at reaching places my old collie never even contemplated! Sorry, haven't read back at all, so take and as required. Just managed to notice that Mags is very very very officially a non-smoker. Well done. Nothing to report here - busy, busy, busy, busy - and stuff going on at work which is just turning me and my colleagues hair grey - well in my case, causing the grey to erupt through its usual disguise.
  17. Mine's a Tower too - but a giant one. I think one of the Tower recipe leaflets I have gives recipes for all their range - so if there's something in particular you want to try, I'll have a look and post the recipe here for your petite cooker to start you off.
  18. Funny this thread has just been started - this week I eventually got around to replacing my old slow cooker - having broken the lid yonks ago, with one more of the less the same - a fiver from the charity shop! So, yesterday I cooked casserole pork coated in seasoned flour with onion, fresh tomatoes, green pepper, mushrooms, a mixture of white wine and stock and some sage - and it was yummy. I have literally just put the rest in the freezer - and it's made six single portions plus the greedy helping I had yesterday. I did this as a one stage cooking - took much longer but everything went in "raw", and I added hot stock. And I'm cooking beef stew tonight - shin beef with onions, leeks, swede, parsnip and carrot, with beef stock added - so all I'll need to make a meal is a jacket potato. I shortened the cooking time on this by cooking the floured meat in oil first, before adding to the pot, putting in the veg then adding hot stock. I'm hoping for leftovers tonight to increase the number of meals for one I have available when OH is working. Must admit that last night my onion took a-g-e-s to cook - even though I sliced it as thinly as I would normally. Today I have sliced it much smaller. What settings does yours have Alicia? What size is it?
  19. Thanks for the update Sam. As you say I fear that the flooding in Sri Lanka is not receiving the publicity that Australia is. It sounds as if you are putting your all into helping out where you can - as you always do. I hope it's not too tough for you.
  20. San for you today. Many thanks to all of you who have been so concerned about my shoulder. It's made me have a nice warm fuzzy Fugee feeling. Appointment this afternoon - but I might not be around much until tomorrow evening.
  21. Don’t really know – but I’ve been living with it for a year now – I hadn’t realised it was so long until I looked at my training diary and found I had referred to it there. Physio says it’s been building up for a long time – so I could have done something ages ago which is now coming back to haunt me. The truly big problem is that I’m not too bad generally – but, literally, the minute I sit down at my desk at work I’m in pain – and it just builds up day by day during the week until by some Fridays I don’t really know what to do with myself. Then at the weekend it slowly improves again. Been risk assessed by the nurse at my desk, but that’s produced nothing – I am doing everything perfectly. Haven’t found a pain killer to deal with it yet either. Christmas was a relief because I had a whole week when the pain slowly started to subside – now we’re off again, and it’s really getting to me.
  22. Wishy washy blue sky here but a great big sunshire. Just off to town to collect my PDA which I thought was dead, but isn't at all, and has cost me minor squids to have fixed. I feel right armless without it. After that it'll be a bit of a mooch around town to blow the cobwebs away before returning to the day job - which is causing me serious serious shoulder pains. It was sooooooooooooooooo much better at Christmas when I wasn't at work!
  23. The Tax Return is Done! Before it was finished I wanted to do all sorts of things. Now it is finished I want to do absolutely nothing! I think new life forms in the kitchen sounds very exciting.
  24. Exciting news about Reuben, Whizzie. You'll be fine, and so will he. Sam, I meant to ask re floods in Sri Lanka (I think?) For various reasons my ability to keep up with world news in the last couple of weeks has been dire, but I'm sure I heard about it - once - as oppose to Australia, every day! Which I suspect means that if it is happening just means that the decision makers feel it has less pulling power than Australia. Just don't want you getting wet out there - oh, and most importantly, no hurty toothies/mouth. Does oil of cloves help poorly mouths as well as toothache?
