  1. No offence taken! A little Christmas message from my dogs: http://sendables.jibjab.com/view/wAYqzjbehdUrZnwG
  2. Thank you Marion, very much appreciated. A lot of us smaller charities are completely volunteer based. Thank goodness I work from home so broadband is part of the package! I think our biggest success story this year is the American Bulldog who came in at the start of January as a status dog, spent rather a long time with us and is now a well loved member of a family including children and CATS!!!!
  3. I'm really sorry but we will be doing that soon - we don't approach people and beg but we do stand there with our buckets (and a dog or so) - when you look at what we ask for as a donation (£120 but will reduce if the home is perfect and the dog could get nowhere more suitable in a million years) compared to what it will have cost us to neuter, vaccinate and board that dog PLUS all the long stayers who if we asked for what they had cost us would be donations of over £1,000 PLUS all the dogs we have out on foster-adoption schemes where we pay the vet bills for an ongoing condition to ensure that the dog will not be overlooked when trying to find a home then the ££££s in really do need rather a lot of help! Oh, and of course the dogs where if the original owners had bothered to take them to the vet it would not have cost us over £800 and the dog lost an ear, or over £230 and the 4 year old dog would not have lost 12 teeth.......
  4. you can do it Loobie! Just be yourself and smile and you will answer all questions and sail through.
  5. I had one a few years ago, was very bulky batterywise, and weighed a ton but think there are smaller, neater ones out now. Was useful cycling in to work (you know how long it has been since I worked in an office - pre Lucy!!) and I had gone for one of the "helps you while cycling but does not do anything unless you cycle at the same time" ones rather than one which zooms you along without pedalling.
  6. Snow - I am sure your mum would be absolutely fuming with the aunt with what is being said, and if you did drop everything to spend 24 hours a day with her she would also be furious with you. If she is really sick with the treatment she probably would not want you seeing her like that - in fact would be worried that you would be worried seeing her like that, and a professional carer can be impersonal when it comes to intimate tasks. It would be better to conserve her energy during the week so she has a treat and can look forward to it if you go down at weekends. I know my mother gets worn out when I visit as she insists on doing things, chatting all day etc - and the next day she sounds exhausted.
  7. Why is it that when I accidentally leave the almost full tub of fish flakes on the conservatory windowledge a certain boxer spots it, steals it, eats the contents BUT when I open the cupboard and the replacement tub falls out and its lid drops off NONE of them want to eat the flakes which are still there hours later as I have been tied up on conference calls forever???
  8. The site looks great, and the tributes in the memorial section are beautiful.
  9. no mice, the toys spent the day in the sunshine yesterday to get some fresh air to them... Amy - please remember to ask me for them or knowing me they will travel all the way home again!
  10. If there is a hospice near her it would be worth seeing if she could go for day care - my mother goes once a week, she gets lunch, she joins in the craft sessions and most importantly (dad has Alzheimers and is almost deaf) she gets people to chat with - not just about her illness. She was in a bit of a state when the MacMillan nurse asked her about whether she wanted to be in the hospice or at home when her time was up but now she realises that they ask that at the very start so the patient's wishes are known and the matter can then be discretely dropped rather than asking someone who only has days left. She was also worried about being referred to the hospice despite us going to visit and being told about the day care - but now she has been, and has also seen people who stay in for a few days then go home again she is far more relaxed about it. I have to say the care and empathy she has received is fantastic - she is in her 80s, she has a serious lung problem, a pacemaker and now cancer in her bones and breast, but from the consultants to the nursing staff everyone has made her feel valued, taken time out to discuss things with her (and allowed for the fact she is a fractious old woman as I know from experience!!!)
  11. I have managed to locate the bag! Need to empty it out to check everything is ok, will bring with me on Sunday to give to Amy as long as no mice are living in it!
  12. off to check the small print in my policy, did not get asked that and I work from home so would hate to find I have been paying 4 lots of invalid insurance..... the chickens are more danger to visitors than the dogs!
  13. err no - left cheek, and not talking face! Had so many people up close and personal to it changing the dressings daily that I should have had a smiley face tattooed on it! All better now though, but as I could not see it in the mirror I got the district nurses to take pictures every couple of days.
  14. This is Boxer x Pointer: Suggest everyone checks their Photobucket privacy settings! Mine have suddenly all gone to "public" - which means people across the globe are being scared silly with the pictures of my operation wound!!!
  15. sorry - still not got to the back of the garage... will get there soon I promise! G
