He is a rather striking black tuxedo boy with white trim and beautiful, piercing eyes. Sadly Paddy was rehomed about a year ago (as Panther) but has now come back to us to look for a new forever family. We would ideally like to see him homed sooner rather than later so he can quickly get over this sudden upheaval and settle again. ~ Personality ~ Paddy is a lovely quiet boy who is very content with the simple things in life. He relishes any chance to just stretch out and relax in the sun, and has a very calm, quiet demeanour in the house. Paddy loves people too and will soak up any attention you give him, though is not in your face about asking for more. He is polite and mannerly and all in all a very easy boy to keep happy, and is just enough of a goof to have you smiling on a daily basis! ~ In the Home ~ Paddy has been living in a home for the past year, so is very house savvy and knows all the basics. He might have one or two mistakes upon arrival simply due to the stress of moving to a completely new home, but he should quickly settle. Not much fazes Paddy and he is such an easy, loving lug to have around. He is very chilled-out in the house and quite the lazy boy, loving nothing more than to stretch out on his duvet and snooze the afternoon away. The perfect cuddle dispenser and furry heater on the cold winter nights. Paddy has been reliving his puppyhood lately and adores having someone to play with, be it human or canine. He is quite often found loping around the garden, running for the sheer joy of it. ~ Other Animals ~ Paddy is sharing his foster home with other greyhounds and gets on really well with them. He is happy to share his space and doesn’t ask for much at all. This lovely boy also adores his walks though needs a bit of care when being introduced to other dogs. If the other dog is a small, excitable type, Paddy can get a bit wound up by all the movement. However if the other dog is polite, he returns the same. Paddy is definitely most comfortable and social with other hound-shaped dogs – he knows his own! He is extremely mannerly and gentle when meeting other hounds, but may bark or show excitement if he sees a non-hound shaped dog running around in the distance. If given time and gentle but firm guidance, however, Paddy does settle down. He just needs who is prepared for his reaction, work with him on it, and with time and patience he will be a fab dog. Paddy is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, Paddy will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30 min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Due to mobility issues, he has not been getting as much exercise as we would recommend, but he is still a very calm, sedate lad in the house. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers. ~ Where Am I? ~ Paddy is currently in foster care in Norfolk. Key Points: Super friendly, squishy, great cuddler, suitable to be an only dog, not small dog safe, house savvy, ok to be left, good in the car. Paddy is an 7 year old ex-racing greyhound. Paddy is a lovely, quiet boy who is very content with the simple things in life. At the same time he is not in your face about asking for more affection. He is polite and mannerly and all in all a very easy boy to keep happy, with just enough of a goofy side to have you smiling on a daily basis! ~ In the Home ~ Generally: House savvy, ok to be left, suitable as an only dog, plays with toys, a pleasure to have in the house. Paddy is currently the only dog in his foster home, and has settled to this very well. He is fine to be left alone and doesn’t become destructive. He is the perfect cuddle dispenser and furry heater on the cold winter nights. Paddy has just enough ‘quirk’ to keep you entertained. He is a bit of a goof and gets very excited when he knows it dinner time or walk time. He also likes to take his foster mum’s slippers to bed with him as a ‘security blanket’! He never chews the slippers but just likes to carry them to bed. Though 8 years old now, he has just recently gotten a new interest in toys and it’s a delight to see him play. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with other greyhound types, not small dog or cat safe, best to live with a female hound, or on his own. This lovely boy also adores his walks but is not safe with small dogs, cats or furries. Though the majority of greyhounds come to learn that small dogs are indeed dogs and not rabbits once they’ve been off the track for a short while, there is a small percentage that never let go of that prey drive. Paddy falls into this group, and so he need a very experienced owner who has dealt with this type of dog before, and understands how they work. Paddy still sees small dogs as targets to be hunted, so he must wear a muzzle whenever he is near them. If introduced calmly and gradually, he will understand that he is to ignore them, but any small dog moving in the distance will get him very excited and he will fixate. Paddy is definitely most comfortable and social with other hound-shaped dogs – he knows his own! He is mannerly and gentle when meeting other hounds, and goes on regular walks with some local lurchers. Paddy has also been attacked by male hounds on a couple of occasions, they seem to just not like him for some reason, so he would be best either living with a female hound or he is fine and well-adjusted to live on his own. He just needs an owner who is prepared for his reaction, understands how he ticks, but loves him regardless. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel until he sees other dogs, social with people and greyhounds, great in the car. Like most greyhounds, Paddy will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30 min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Due to his high prey drive, Paddy needs to be muzzled when offlead, and not be let offlead around other small animals including small dogs. Paddy travels very well and is a gem to bring on car trips. He settles down straight away and just snoozes most of the time. When he doesn’t see other dogs/cats/squirrels in the distance he walks very well on the lead, happily trotting alongside you without pulling. Paddy is also not bothered by busy traffic or crowds of people. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled.
