Hairy Carpal Pads - Is This Normal?

Just wondered if anyone has come across this before.

A friend of mine has an Aussie Shepherd. Her carpal pads (where the dew claw would be if she had them) are really hairy, and I find it quite freaky.

You know when you look at the pads you see like little pinheads, its almost like those have grown, looks like a see anemone, very freaky.

Is this normal????

It doesn't seem to be causing any problems but it looks really odd!

Not sure about proper hair on pads, but there is a condition (who's name I can't remember) where the keratin that the pad is made of grows excessively and gives the appearance feathering or 'hairs', it can affect their noses as well.

ETA - just googled and it's called Nasodigital Hyperkeratosis.

I told my friend about this condition and she's looked it up - it's definitely that thing - nasodigital hyperkeratosis. I can't imagine what it would like coming out of the poor dog's nose!!!!

Anyway she's very grateful and off to the vets this morning.

Thank you!
