"Useful" Tricks To Teach Your Dogs

It's taken me a while to cop on to this one, given the weather in this country, but I've decided that actually teaching Sparks and Kiera a 'shake' command, to ask them to shake off their wet, muddy bods outside, rather than covering the kitchen in grime after every walk, isn't such a bad idea :) So far this involves me trying to juggle a clicker on top of leads and poo bags during every wet walk and clicking every shake that I'm quick enough to catch  Hopefully in a while they'll catch on what the idea is and/or I learn how to make it clearer to them more quickly and we'll know another trick!

What "tricks" ("useful" of not) have you taught your dogs and how do you go about it? :flowers:

Oh I like this thread.

Last week when it was cold, wet, and windy, it took Sally 45 minutes to do her last poo of the night. I was not impressed. So, I've been teaching her to poo as quickly as she can when we go out. I am doing it by saying 'poo' when she goes, praising her, and giving her a liver treat when she has completed. Last night it took 2 minutes for her to poo without prompting, this morning she was similarly as quick, and she is definitely looking for the treat when she's finished. It is also making long walks easier knowing shes gone at home.

I do like the 'shake' idea.

Ooohh, that's how I've encouraged Sparks to poo while on his lead! :) The poor love was too scared to do that, but there just are occasions when you can't let dogs off so that had to be remedied. He still pulls like a steam train and faffs about forever to find the 'right spot' (he is only allowed to pull when finding 'the spot', or else there's no point even trying to get him to poo  ), andstill, a year on, he gets a treat - as so does Kiera, as a 'thank you' for being dragged along for the duration
