Fee Posted September 11, 2009 Report Share Posted September 11, 2009 Jessie is a beautiful Golden Retriever who is currently in an Oldies club foster home in West Essex. She had lived with her owner since she was a tiny pup but unfortunately he had to go into hospital and no one in the family felt able to care for Jessie. Now she’s hoping that there is a Goldie fan out there who will give her a loving home where she can spend her twilight years and forget the sadness of losing her home and her owner. Jessie is a mature lady of 14 but, as she settles in her foster home, it is becoming clear that she is no couch potato. Although she has some age related arthritis in her back legs, this is now controlled by medication and supplements and Jessie is starting to enjoy her walks. At the moment she can only manage about 20 minutes at a time but this could probably be gradually built up as she regains her fitness. She also has shown signs of wanting to play with the other dogs in her foster home and occasionally has a few mad moments running round the garden. A typical Goldie, Jessie is a really sweet girl. She’s affectionate, gentle and placid and is learning to roll over for a tummy rub. She appears to be partially deaf but this doesn’t seem to affect her. She does respond to hand claps and is rapidly learning sign language. When Jessie arrived in Oldies Club care she had a badly infected mouth and lots of decayed teeth which made her very miserable. However, after the removal of 18 teeth and a course of antibiotics, she now has a lovely healthy mouth and enough teeth left to manage her food easily. Jessie is fine with other dogs and could certainly live with another older quiet dog like herself. However, she would be just as happy, maybe more so, as an only dog where she can get all the love and affection for herself. This lovely girl deserves so much love and care in her retirement and will be a fantastic companion for anyone. Her ideal home would probably be with a retired person or couple. She’s fine with children but, because of her age and deafness, any children in the home would need to be of an age where they would respect her needs. She appears to ignore cats and will be cat tested shortly. Jessie has had a full vet check. She is spayed and has been vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated. ———- If you are interested in Jessie, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process.
