A couple of brags really, just really proud of my boys for how quickly they have both taken to flyball. Kimba will now do the whole thing, run down over the jumps, use the box properly to get the ball and run back straight to me, all that after only about 4 sessions so really pleased with him (especially as he is not really bothered about tennis balls ata ll!!)

Jasper has only had 2 sessions and we have taken it slowly with him because of his fear issues with people, however, he is now running down the line of jumps, picking up the ball that is rolled off the box and running back down, he is very funny cos he likes to pounce on the ball before he picks it up, and runs like a proper puppy, but he will get the idea and get quicker as he gets a bit older.

So all in all I am a very proud mummy!!

  • 2 weeks later...

We had a fantastic day yesterday, we turned up to a starters show with three dogs who had never run together or competed before with my Daisy never having done flyball before and after 5 minutes training we came 2nd in our division loosing only to the team that came first. Our team consisted of a collie, a beardie, a terrier and a Germain wirehaired pointer who we met just before our first race and who had never competed before either!!!

I was so amazed at how friendly and helpful everyone was, they gave their time to show us what to do and where to be, loaned a box and balls, and we had a Team manager, trainer and box loader who appeared from no-where to help us. Having competed in other dog sports I have to say that Flyball really knows how to encourage starters and help them on their way! Oh and theres much more to it than I thought! I was exhausted at the end of the day!

Ohh, i finally have a little brag to add! Yesterday my team, the hampshire harriers went all the way to biggleswade to compete in the tournament set up by the barkshire bandits. (Thankyou!) We had a long journey then a long wait as division 4 wasn't on til at least 12 and then again at 5. Despite being totally soaked through when the heavens opened whilst we were running we battle through our first competition this year and WON! We had the fastest time of the day at 19 seconds.

Meg asked me to post a photo of her with her rosette! Not bad for her 3rd ever flyball competition. We have a feeling we may have achieved flyball intermediate as well, but we are still waiting to hear about that.

So here is the clever little collie:

Roll on our next competition at all about dogs!

Wooo hooooo!!!

Just got back from our show - Eddie and Charliegoo's team came 3rd (had to run slower dog in the team all the time, as 2 of the others had a huuuuuge fight and one of them went lame  ) and in multibreed today, Eddie's team came 2nd (Charliegoo didn't get to play :( )

Charliegoo got the points for his platinum on Saturday, and I get the feeling that Ed might get his graduate either next weekend, or up at Middlesbrough at the beginning of May

Here is Snitch who was in the team with Lynda and Daisy

I too had a fabulous day, and the rest of the flyballers were so friendly and really helped us out. Much friendlier than obedience.

Can't wait to do it again :)

Do the Starters get to run with netting, then?

(Not difficult to be friendlier than Obedience IME.)

Yes, starters i made really easy for the dogs to get it right. The lanes are netted so that the dogs can't avoid the jumps, nor can they leg it across to the other lane to interfere with the other dogs. It was also ok to rol hte ball down the box if the dog wasn't happy to trigger it or even to run down the lane with your dog. I was lucky in the snitch didn't need any help, she was super.

I was well impressed with the way it was set up to assist the dogs and to ensure that they had success. Having said that, there were a few dogs that jumped the netting and joined the team in the other lane (oops) and there were some dogs that didn't appear to have a clue what flyball was all about.
